Did AHS get boring after season 6 Roanoke or is it just me?

I used to love American Horror Story up until after season 6, it just doesn’t give me the same thrills that it used to if it makes sense? It gives off the vibes that they ran out of ideas so now they’re just kinda throwing in a bunch of random celebrities to keep the views. Im curious in hearing your opinions about this tho… would you say they really ran out of ideas or am i just being kinda difficult?

I mean, I am an easy pleaser - give me something that entertains and I'll probably give it a thumbs up, but Roanoke gives me so much more than just entertainment. I remember the first time I watched it, and the way I was SHOOK when they revealed that it wasn't just a season shot as a documentary, but that it was going that next level of meta and putting the doc cast and the original people together in the house was AMAZING. It was also in my opinion the season of AHS that was actually scary, and not scary-made-sexy - which to be fair I have no issue with. The scary-made-sexy aspects of the show were part of why I became obsessed with AHS in the beginning. There were amazing jump scares (any time the pig man showed up), and it was my absolute favorite Kathy Bates character. She perfectly played the descent into madness as her obsession with the Butcher overtook her.

I'd say that the only part I didn't enjoy as much was the torture porn stuff during the hillbilly scenes - but I also don't enjoy that type of horror to begin with so it makes sense that I wasn't taken with those scenes in the show. Otherwise, I love this season so much more than any of the other seasons. Close second is Freak Show, then Coven and Murder House after that. Asylum never really got me - Chloe Sevigny was deliciously weird in it, and Zachary Quinto remains one of my favorite TV psychopaths, but I can see why it's such a popular season.

Any other Roanoke fans out there?

Idk why Roanoke is so disliked it is so good! The way it switched between a TV show and reality is awesome and the reality part of the season of the season was my favorite and it is so scary the season is basically like the Blair Witch Project with the found footage. I guess when people didn't like it is because they were not paying attention it says "dramatic reenactment."

I finished Hotel a while ago and stopped watching AHS because I didn’t wanna watch Roanoke and felt bad💀. So I just wanna know if it’s important at all to anything. Because ik that most of the seasons do connect somehow but I’m not sure with this one. Advice would be appreciated :)

Full disclosure I've been a fan of the series since day one but felt the show lacked on scares. I know the season is old but after Hotel I decided to not watch the show any more. I was bored last night and needed something on to level grind in the game I was playing. I was honestly surprised on how good that freaking season was! I watched the whole season in one sitting.

The whole entire season besides one episodes was really enjoyable and actually really creepy and scary. Did anyone else enjoy this season of the show?

10 AHS Roanoke Theories

1) Someone is lying.

If an unreliable narrator is lying, the whole story can potentially flip on it's side. If Shelby is lying, all of the blatantly supernatural aspects of the story are lost. Shelby has been separated twice from the other narrators, so those parts of her story rely on her witness alone. If Matt is lying, none of the pig threats have happened and he is unaccounted for when shit's gone down.

2) The actors will be affected next.

Because there is an active reenactment occurring, there is a potential that the actors themselves could be affected by Roanoke - after all they're probably filming in the same house, on the same plot of land.

3) The narrators aren't who they say they are.

Because rituals and aliens are potential game for this season, it would be interesting if the trust built between the viewers and narrators were flipped on it's side. The narrators could have been body swapped, alien'd, or Skeleton Key'd.

4) There will be more Roanoke stories.

"My Roanoke Story" may imply that there will be other testimonies from other people's experiences with the land. The documentary will unfurl beyond the reenactment.

5) Shelby is a witch.

Matt waking up concurrently as her miscarriage may be a sign of Vitalum Vitalis. Light foreshadowing with her interest in new age hobbies, yoga could represent attunement and spirituality, only started recent interest in cooking - could represent brewing.

6) There is an entity influencing them.

Shelby's greatest fear came from Matt being knocked out, which was manifested by falling teeth and hospital nurses. Lee's greatest fear is losing sobriety and her daughter, which was manifested by rolling wine bottle and potential event next episode. The entity could be aliens, ghosts or even some Interstellar 5th dimensional being. They could be good, bad or neutral. The entity could have influenced Lee and Shelby to go to the basement while the actual threat occurred in their house.

7) The hillbillies are the good guys.

They were one of the first groups we are made to be suspicious of. They seem local so would be most knowledgeable about the area. Buying the property means they can keep people off it.

8) The pigman is a good guy.

The pigman could just as easily be a victim of the land than just a monster.

9) The story will fall apart.

Having multiple narratives may force us to question each storyteller. Multiple eye witness accounts may mean the narrators will experience different things at the same time. Shelby could see a horror while Lee sees nothing in the same room. The narrators will begin to not trust each other. Lee is already suspicious of Shelby, and Shelby has already questioned Matt's trust of her. This may foreshadow 'trust' being a recurring theme.

10) We'll see the real events.

As soon as the documentary is done and dusted and we hear all three points of view, we will finally see the real story with Lily Rabe and co. and it will reveal something drastically different from the documentary's story.

When did you give up on AHS?

Ten years back I used to be obsessed with American Horror Story. I’d look out for every teaser and tried to guess the plot/storyline of that particular year’s season. And there was a time where I actually enjoyed the show and what it had to offer.

Skip to today, I see that AHS released promo posters and I find myself not really giving a damn. I’m just kinda over this series now…

If I were to pinpoint where I gave up on AHS, it was probably at Season 10: Double Feature. I think the final nail in the coffin was inclusion of American Horror Stories.

AHS:Roanoke Info

Details have been kept under lock and key but here is what I can tell you (don't read if you don't want to ruin E5-9):

  • The big twist in E6 will revolve around hidden cameras.

  • The twist is related to the Saturn Award

  • Kathy Bates' Character is called Agnes Winstead

  • Sarah Paulson's character is called Audrey

  • Evan Peters is playing Edward (Rory) Mott

  • E6 will turn the series on its head but the actual twist will play out as a format change.

  • AHS: Roanoke starts from E6-9 (as yet there are no details about E10 but it is a stand alone episode)

  • Taissa Farmiga and Frances Conroy are rumoured to return in E7-9 (unsure)

  • Gaga will play a character other than the Witch.

  • A character called Sidney/Sydney will show up at some point (not sure if this is Cuba's character's real name - I'm pretty sure his name is Dominic)

  • All of the 'actors' and real characters will be taken back to the Roanoke house: this is where the twist is shown.

  • Jessica Lange is NOT returning

  • No filming has taken place at the Murder House

  • Each episode up until E6 is based on E6 of the equivalent series before (Roanoke Chapter 1 is based on Murder House E6, Roanoke Chapter 2 is based on Asylum E6 etc - hence the lost child reference (asylum E6) and the Leslie Jordan appearance (coven E6))

  • Finn Wittrock's character appears E6-9

  • Emma Roberts may be playing a small role in E10

  • Matt and Shelby are NOT married (in the present)

  • The 'real' Matt and Shelby (Andre and Lily) have a much more sinister motive

  • This whole thing has nothing to do with Billie Dean Howard (it's not to do with her Lifetime show).

  • Cheyenne appears properly from Chapter 6

  • A title sequence has been made and will show from E6/7 onwards 'My Roanoke Nightmare' only has 5/6 chapters

  • This season is one of the best (just wait)

  • This season has an over-arching connection to all other series, not just one in particular (although the Freak Show is explicitly linked via Edward Mott (Evan Peters).

  • There is a second, very large, twist in E9 (I only know small details - but it involves Paulson's Audrey character).

  • Feral children found in barn will play a part later in the series

I hope this teases some fans! Now let's watch the theories plan out from this!
