Hello! I have an 8 month old, female, spayed American Foxhound. She’s SO smart and a very fast learner, but struggles to apply herself when necessary. In a training environment, where I provide treats, she is AMAZING. Outside of this environment, in real life, she seems to forget all training she has had. I struggle the most with; counter surfing, recall, demand barking, and most of all- settling. She will not settle unless she’s exhausted. I have tried the relaxation protocol, umbilical cord training, ect but she will not settle unless absolutely exhausted. I can provide a tiring routine for her somedays, but I need advice on how to handle her/better teach her these things. I know hounds need a lot of scent work, and long walks or runs. Most morning I take her on a minimum 2 mile walk, I try to do somewhere different daily for more scents, and when we get home I have puzzles prepared for her. This works some days, but not all! I want to make her life (and mine) better! Any advice at all is appreciated! Thank you!
