Doesn't this mean that Harry and Barty bonded? Why is Harry so close to Mad Eye Moody after GoF? It's like being close with a complete stranger just because you were close with someone who happened to look like him.
I always found this really confusing in the movies, and I'm re-reading the books for the first time in over a decade (currently on PoA). Does this get explained in the GoF book or later? Any theories/answers are welcome!

As someone who has only ever watched the films and not read the books - is it ever explained why Harry is so trusting of “Mad Eye” at the very start of OotP when throughout all of GoF it was Barty Crouch Jr polyjuiced as “Mad Eye” that Harry ever interacted with? I know at the very end of GoF Harry meets the real “Mad Eye” when they open the big chest but from a movie perspective they are pretty much complete strangers

'Mad-Eye' Moody is plain old Alastor Moody when Igor Karkaroff comes to trial: both eyes are intact.
But he is absent from the trial of the Longbottom Four: Bellatrix, Rudolphus and Rabastan Lestrange, and Barty Crouch Jr. The fiercesome foursome's extended Cruciatus attack on the Longbottoms, first Frank, then Alice, took place after Voldemort had fallen, and came as a shock to the wizarding community.
Who else but Moody, the top Auror, could capture such vicious Death Eaters?
Nobody could possibly stop Moody from going after the filth that broke the minds of his colleagues.
The Lestrange brothers are fairly unimpressive specimens. Barty Crouch Jr is depicted as a cowering teen. But Bellatrix is fearless and imperious, and she fights like fury:
Bellatrix took Alastor's eye. Moody was absent from the trial because he was in St Mungo's.

Moody never taught DADA, it was all Barty Crouch Jr, so the curse shouldn't apply to Moody, right?
