Agents of Mayhem

I'm getting rid of all the Humble Bundle keys I've accumulated over the years one at a time. This time it's the much-maligned Agents of Mayhem (for what it's worth, I really enjoyed it) This will close when I get around to it tomorrow (1/9/24) after 8AM ET. Comment to enter. Winner will be selected from the comments using redditraffler.

Note: If you've won, please acknowledge my chat message as a courtesy so I know you got it/used it or I'll block you from entering my giveaways in the future. This isn't to be mean, but I'm not a bot so it feels bad when people just take my keys and run lol. Thank you!

Edit: The winner is u/BackwardsDuck

AngryCentaurGaming - Jeremy Penter - Rent

"While sometimes enjoyable the game falls victim to poor design, performance, and bland incredibly repetitive gameplay to the extreme."

Arcade Sushi - Luke Brown - 9 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem may be a departure from Volition's long-running crime series, but Volition's latest creation has personality and excitement in spades.

Attack of the Fanboy - Al McCarthy - 3.5 / 5 stars

The presentation, the characters, the gameplay -- Agents of Mayhem feels like a great game in spots. It's got all the Saints Row style that you're accustomed to seeing from Volition, but it lacks in features when compared to other open world games of this nature.

CGMagazine - Mike Cosimano - 5 / 10.0

You would expect the team behind Saints Row to make something with more verve and fewer grey hallways, but here we are with Agents of Mayhem.

Destructoid - Nick Valdez - 7 / 10.0

But despite these technical flaws, I still had a really fun time messing around with the agents. Enjoying Agents of Mayhem is sort of like watching a cartoon you used to love without the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia or the naivete of youth. You'll get more of a kick laughing at it, rather than with, but there's a smile on your face either way.

Digital Trends - Steven Petite - 2 / 5 stars

Agents of Mayhem is a generic take on the city open world shooter. A diverse cast of heroes and a few funny one liners save it from being downright bad, but its repetitive missions and bland world firmly solidify its mediocrity.

DualShockers - Tomas Franzese - 7.5 / 10.0

From a creative standpoint, Agents of Mayhem is great. Its world stands on its own, looks good, and is hilariously written well… for the most part. Playing around with the agents' special abilities can even be fun, but many missions felt repetitive and dull. If the world of Agents of Mayhem intrigues you, I would recommend diving into it — just know that under the hood, its missions and open world aren't as creative as the rest of the game.

EGM - Michael Goroff - 7 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem is one of those games with so much potential that just doesn't quite reach the heights it probably could. That being said, it's exhilarating combat and unique character system have me looking forward to a more polished, more fully conceived sequel.

FingerGuns - Rossko Keniston - 8 / 10

Agents of Mayhem is a whole lot of fun but we've seen it all before.

Gadgets 360 - Rishi Alwani - 8 / 10

All in all, Agents of Mayhem is a solid effort. Fantastic heroes, ridiculous satire, and bombastic action make it a game you should check out even if the final product isn't as polished as it could be.

Game Informer - Kyle Hilliard - 8 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem is absurd, but it leans into its own insanity in a charming way and backs it all up with fun, destructive action

Gamerheadquarters - Jason Stettner - 8.2 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem is a great game and it provides a unique style of excitement.

GameSpace - William Murphy - 8.5 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem proudly barrels out into the world as a robust and absolutely fun single player experience. If you want an escape from the grimdark settings of most modern games, but still want to make things go boom, you should stop reading and pick it up now. Above all else, Agents of Mayhem is a master class in fun.

GameSpot - Brett Todd - 4 / 10

Obnoxious attitude, poor mission design, and technical bugs make Agents of Mayhem chaotic and repetitive.

GamesRadar+ - Connor Sheridan - 4 / 5 stars

Hero-swapping tactics add a unique edge to third-person combat, while humor and heart elevate Agents of Mayhem's typical world-saving fundamentals to memorable heights.

Gaming Nexus - Nathan Carter - 7.4 / 10.0

At the end of the day, even with it's issues, Agents of Mayhem is still a fun experience that anyone who is a fan of hero shooters or the previous Saints Row titles will be able to enjoy. Shooting hoards of Legion scum won't get old any time soon.

GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat - 7 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem is a game that tries and accomplishes a lot of things, but a general lack of ambition and mechanics that are often sluggish weigh down the overall experience.

God is a Geek - Mick Fraser - 8 / 10.0

The Saints Row vibe is strong, but Volition's latest is still a brilliantly bonkers blast-fest

Hardcore Gamer - Kevin Dunsmore - 3.5 / 5.0

We're living in a post-Saints Row world where Volition wants to bring players something new, but familiar to the table, and for the most part, Agents of Mayhem fills that void. It retains Saints Row's sense of humor and mayhem all while adding in team-oriented gameplay. It's the agents and their individual stories that steal the show thanks to snappy writing, bizarre scenarios, and perfect comedic timing. The story itself is a highlight thanks to the insane villains, although it takes a few chapters before things pick up. It's disappointing that the remaining activities are so repetitive and lack the imagination of what Volition is known for, and with a myriad of technical issues, it feels like Agents of Mayhem was shoved out the door earlier than it should have. Still, despite a few hiccups, there are still hours of fun to be had with Agents of Mayhem. It may not be the best open-world game out there, but like its predecessors, it stands out in a sea of AAA titles that take themselves far too seriously.

Hobby Consolas - José L. Ortega - Spanish - 70 / 100

Agents of Mayhem would be a good product if Saint's Row did not exist. It has a simple and linear development. And that makes it boring during the most time of the adventure. The best thing of the game: the possibilities of the Agents.

IGN - Jon Ryan - 7.1 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem does a good job paying homage to the cartoon and live-action TV heroes of the 80s and 90s, and revels in the absurd tropes and idiosyncrasies of those inspirations. A broad and goofy arsenal of unique weapons and gadgets and the ability to switch characters on the fly to access complementary abilities offers some solid combat and good mindless fun, but due to some unpolished writing and repetitive environments and enemy types, it doesn't fully live up to its heroic potential.

IGN Italy - Felice Di Giuseppe - Italian - 8.5 / 10.0

A refined, fun and surprising spin-off that you don't have to miss.

IGN Spain - David Soriano - Spanish - 7 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem does not do anything wrong, but it also does not stand out in any of its mechanics.

Kotaku - Mike Fahey - No Verdict

Agents of Mayhem is many things, but mostly it's what happens when the development studio responsible for one of the raunchiest game series dials back the dildos and gives its heroes a little more maturity and humanity.

It's something special. Like Uranus.

Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 5 / 10

An obnoxious and repetitive open world game that does its best to hide the fact that it's a surprisingly decent third person shooter.

PlayStation LifeStyle - Chandler Wood - 6.5 / 10.0

There's a lot to love in Agents of Mayhem, which makes the pitfalls harder to swallow. An imaginative story and cast of characters is burdened by an uninspired and soulless open-world. Exciting character combat gets pushed out of the limelight by notable slowdown and other bugs that inhibit gameplay. In a day where open-world games are evolving and giving players a lot more depth, meaning, and life, Agents of Mayhem feels like a step backwards. Volition ought to consider either abandoning or stepping up the open-world if they decide to continue the franchise.

Polygon - Justin McElroy - 5.5 / 10.0

You can swap between the three agents you bring into the field instantly, letting you chain their different special attacks together for maximum impact. There are some clever choices here too. Derby star Daisy, for example, has to cool off her minigun by dashing through enemies, which turns a typically boring weapon cooldown mechanic into a renewable power resource.Remember those great characters? Well, practically all their dialogue is bland beyond belief. Much of the writing in Agents of Mayhem is “joke adjacent,” meaning it's delivered with the tone, pacing and structure of a joke, but is not, in actuality, funny in any way. This has likely started to feel like a litany of sins rather than cogent critique, but it's the best way I have of illustrating Agent of Mayhem's failings. It is not felled by any one thing, but is rather undone by a thousand little cuts. Agents of Mayhem heaps theoretical fun on you. Characters, powers, upgrades, tons of missions — it's desperate to for the player to just have fun. It's a noble impulse, but one that it's depressingly incapable of consistently delivering on.

Press Start - Damian Filippone - 8 / 10

If subtlety was a person, I'm pretty sure the Agents of Mayhem would tell them to "suck it". It flies its flag of in-your-face attitude with pride and does it so well, that you can almost forgive it for making really lame jokes about things like Uranus. If you're looking for some unadulterated adult fun, then I recommend becoming an Agent of Mayhem today.

PS Site - Paweł Musiolik - Polish - 8 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem is succesfully trying to buy the Saints Row series more vacation time. Volition has shown once again that they're best at making "cool" games where impossible does not exist. This time, they also tried to make a better quality genre mix, which introduces some freshness.

Push Square - Alex Stinton - 8 / 10

Few would consider the combat in the various Saints Row games particularly memorable, so it's surprising to discover that the frantic, fast paced battles and excellent agent switching gameplay end up being the true heroes of Agents of Mayhem. While it's disappointing that the open world feels surplus to requirements at times, it's the 80s cartoon atmosphere and absorbing upgrade system that also help ensure that this is more than just a Saints Row spin-off.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - John Walker - No Verdict

For whatever reason, this feels like a game that wants to reach as high and far as the games that came before it, and simply can't.

Spaziogames - Paolo Gimondi - Italian - 7.5 / 10.0

Agents of Mayhem is an interesting experiment, but with short legs. While on one hand we have twelve agents all different and fun to use in fast-paced and dynamic gameplay mechanics, on the other hand we have a gameplay experience ruined mostly for the repetition of missions background and the copious presence of bugs And glitch ready to let you start over again a great run.

Volition should’ve never made Agents of Mayhem.

This game is ultimately what caused Volition’s downfall. Apparently because of the way it turned out, Deep Silver was given creative control for the reboot, and this is not mentioning how it caused Volition to go bankrupt. Now what I can’t comprehend is why they didn’t just build off one of their other IP’s which already had an audience. The Punisher, Red Faction and maybe even Descent. Surely this would’ve been a no brainer. Heck, it would’ve been much better if they chose to make the Saints Row Reboot from that point on instead, that way Deep Silver wouldn’t have interfered and maybe Volition would’ve actually made a good gameplay system similar to previous SR games along with it being gangster. I heard they made AOM as a way of continuing the ending of SRIV but in a spin off game of course. I don’t know the full story so it would be nice if someone could explain it to me.

For me, one of them is Contract Thriller for Agents of Mayhem, a game that's 99 percent single player. This stupid trophy requires you to connect to servers to complete challenges. But in 2021 without ANY FUCKING WARNING volition shut down the servers making this ONE trophy for a single player game mind you, completely unobtainable. Like they couldn't have made the fucking contracts offline, seriously!?

Stevivor - Steve Wright - 5 / 10.0

Agents will lose most with its humour, juvenile, distracting and frustrating.

TheSixthAxis - Aran Suddi - 5 / 10

Agents of Mayhem is a step back for Volition after the success of the Saints Row series. While the characters are good and fun, they don't feel larger than life when compared to The Boss and their crew. There aren't as many memorable moments either, and the city of Seoul is wasted. The game is less Agents of Mayhem and more Agents of Mehhem.

Total Gaming Network - Shawn Zipay - 2 / 5 stars

At its worst, Agents of Mayhem is an extremely watered down Crackdown and at its best it's a moderately watered down Saints Row experience. The game's positives just aren't enough to make up for the rest of the game's shortcomings.(...) With so many better alternatives out there, some of them even made by Volition themselves already, there just isn't much of a reason to choose Agents of Mayhem.

TrustedReviews - Brett Phipps - 2.5 / 5 stars

Agents of Mayhem would have been a great rental in days gone by, but today it's an experience that's great for a a short while, but doesn't offer enough to keep players invested for the duration of the campaign.

Twinfinite - Ishmael Romero - 4 / 5.0

I'll be honest. I expected to come out of Agents of Mayhem wishing that Volition simply made Saints Row V instead. But now? Now I'm looking forward to what other trouble this budding agency can get itself into, and that's saying something.

USgamer - Mike Williams - 3.5 / 5 stars

Agents of Mayhem is a step back from the trippy, superpowered hijinks of Saints Row IV and Gat Out of Hell. The cast is colorful and eventually, you'll open up the game enough that you'll have fun, but for a Saints Row veteran, you'll always feel like a little bit is missing. There a definite highlights here and there, but otherwise Agents of Mayhem treads water most of the time. Fun, but not amazing.

Victory Point - Unknown - 4 / 5 stars

Agents of Mayhem had a lot to live up to with a built franchise like Saints Row, but I feel the spinoff accomplishes its goal and more. The open world was a fun world to play with and the story is very charming and enjoyable. The only real flaw with the game is it can drop in frame rates and there were a few bugs that required me to restart the game but none of that was a deal breaker.

Xbox Achievements - Richard Walker - 70%

Agents of Mayhem is a solid shooter with a neat character switching mechanic and an infectious sense of fun. It's biggest problem is an over-reliance on sending you into samey-looking lairs, performing the same hacking mini-game ad infinitum, and engaging in much the same activities over and over again. At its best when you're in the midst of a frantic battle, Agents of Mayhem grows very repetitive, very fast, but scratch beneath its surface, and you'll find hidden depths. There's also something strangely compulsive – almost hypnotically so – about playing AoM. Let it get its hooks into you and you'll likely be pursuing 100%. Simple, straightforward, fun, it's hard to resist.

Agents of Mayhem - Actually an insanely fun game

I absolutely loved Saints Row when it got released, it felt like the next gen version of San Andreas. Even GTA IV felt disappointing after that. Starting with Saints Row 3 Volition was going the wrong direction, and didn't like anything after it. Hence my reason for not even looking at Agents of Mayhem.

Xbox Sales had the version with all DLC for $10, so I bought it anyway, not even knowing why. Started playing it, and to my surprise, absolutely love it. It feels like Crackdown on steroids, with more variation in play-styles because of all of the different characters. The goofy/cartoony story and cut-scenes actually bring back some nostalgic feelings from cartoons I watched back in the day.

Anyone else feeling like this?

Agents of Mayhem - No Co-op

While I have not followed this closely, just from what I have seen of the game I assumed it would have co-op. The game looks like it is building off of Saints Row 3 & 4 which had it. To me, this seems like Dead Rising 4 in terms of a case where the developer seemed to miss the boat. While I know making an online co-op game is not necessarily easy, it seems like they will lose a lot of sales by not including it. Even if the game was mediocre/passable, being able to play online with friends can be a huge selling point (see Wildlands).
