As you may know, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake has hit Herat, Farah, and Badghis provinces, with a death toll of over 2,400 that is expected to rise and many more injured.
Here are direct links to organizations you can donate to, all working to help communities on the ground:
- Aseel is an Afghan-run initiative with teams currently on the ground. They are putting together relief packages that respond to the immediate shelter, food, and hygiene needs of affected families.
- UNICEF has dispatched health teams to the provinces and is rushing medical and trauma support to regional hospitals.
- Islamic Relief runs an office in Herat, providing health services and distributing tents, non-food items, and cash vouchers to those most affected.
NGOs aren't a perfect solution but the above organizations are generally respected and operate transparently. If anyone knows of other credible initiatives dealing directly with the disaster, feel free to link below.
