Affordable Space Adventures and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse give away

EDIT 2: All codes given away. Thanks for commenting!

I was checking my HumbleBundle account and I recalled having bought a Nintendo Bundle with a couple of Wii U games: Affordable Space Adventures and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.

https://preview.redd.it/affordable-space-adventures-and-shantae-and-the-pirates-v0-1j8w76pdo5pa1.png

I'll give away these games to the first two people who comment on this thread, just one game per person. I'll check later and reach out to them via PM.

I recently got a Wii U and modded it, so I don't really care about the eShop closing since I can just download any game to my external HD.

EDIT: Codes will only work on US eShop/consoles as per the following disclaimer: Download codes can only be redeemed on Nintendo eShop in American Countries. They will not work on European or Japanese Wii U or Nintendo 3DS devices.

If you're finalizing your WiiU game library, don't overlook Affordable Space Adventures

I know a lot of folks are picking up the last few WiiU titles on their list before the Switch arrives, I would hate for anyone to miss out on Affordable Space Adventures because it's an eShop exclusive.

If you've never heard of it, it's a puzzle adventure for 1 to 3 players. The gamepad becomes the ship's control panel, and one player mans the controls (landing gear, exhaust ports, etc) while another player uses a wiimote/pro controller to steer the ship. This is the exact sort of asymmetrical gameplay that can only be done on the WiiU.

My wife and I played through it last Memorial Day weekend and we had a blast. The game is extremely stylized, and everything down to the loading screen is designed to immerse you in the world. The tension and difficulty escalate smoothly, but you will need to communicate and cooperate with your shipmate(s) if you want to survive.

There's also apparently a free DLC with more challenging levels, which I didn't know about until five minutes ago. Looks like I'll need to play through it again.

Affordable Space Adventures, thoughts?

I'm in love with this game. It has a great story and an eerie atmosphere, best part are the controls made specifically for Wii U. Holy shit it's good.

If you haven't played it yet, it's a MUST buy. Ask those of us who've played it anything about it if you're curious.

If you have, what are you thoughts?

Wii U exclusive Affordable Space Adventures will receive free DLC after the Summer

Hey there everyone! Anchel from KnapNok Games here :)

Normally I wouldn't post a news update here (usually someone else posts some news about the game instead), but since I've been engaging with the r/WiiU community here for a while (even before I started working at KnapNok) I thought I'd leave this message for all of you and see what you thought about it. Plus, you guys are awesome and I wanted to give it to you myself :D

So, let's get straight to the point: we're going to release a free update for Affordable Space Adventures that will bring some new levels for the game!

The new update will come after the Summer, and it will add 5 new extra difficult levels to the mix. If you played through the entire game and wanted more puzzles that made you think harder on how you need to tweak the Small Craft's systems in order to get through, then this is definitely for you! These levels contain ideas that we never found room for in the final version of the game, but we want to make sure that they are polished enough that they have their own unique feel. You might even find some features of the Small Craft that you didn't even know were possible to begin with ;-)

Oh, and thanks to the community (especially on Miiverse - seriously, the comments there have been amazing!) we've been taking note of every bug or little issue players found - one of them even has an official name given by a Miiverse user, who called it the "Interstellar Glitch" because of the way your ship ends up flying right into the gamepad's UI after flying through the darkness. So we're fixing and polishing even more, and we have many of you to thank for this.

And... what's in store afterwards? Well, we want to make a much bigger update in the future. Not just new levels, but an entirely new chapter of the Uexplore story. This will be a paid DLC update, but it probably won't be ready until 2016, since we really want this new content to be great.

Finally, I wanted to leave you all with our new "Atmospheric Trailer", with some of the best quotes we've received from the press: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWxDxX3fhNI

Alright, comments are welcome, everyone! :D

We need more games like Affordable Space Adventures!!

I've been waiting a very long time for a game like this. This is the perfect couch co-op game. Having multiple people control one small ship through a puzzle maze is amazing. It's easily accessible to people, like my wife, who are crap at typical platformers. We've tried NSMB, Rayman Legends, and DKC:TF and this has been, by far, the most fun we've had playing a game.

The gameplay is where this game shines, but the overall look/ atmosphere of this game make it a treat to look at. It feels polished too. I find the loading screens funny as well.

I would love to see more games like this. Something like a space simulator would also work great with this setup. One person flying and shooting ships while the other targets and adjust power/shields.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Just wanted to say, if you have not picked this game up yet. DO IT NOW :)

Affordable Space Adventures, YES.

Finally tried ASA. Holy crap is this a good game. Great aesthetics and world building wrapped around a clever 2-D puzzle game with short levels and frequent save points. Similarly to “Gamer” in Game and Wario, the gamepad functions as the ship control panel and works great. ESSENTIAL

Mad Love for Affordable Space Adventures

This game is a solid 8 out of 10 for me, but the really notable thing about this game is how it embodies more than any other game the revolutionary potential of the Wii U gamepad.

Before delving into that, a quick primer on the game itself. The game has no story to speak of. This is one of the main drawbacks and why I can't rate it higher. All you need to know is you're in a space ship and have to travel from one area/level to the next. At its core, this is a puzzle solving game. Each level will require you to use the various abilities of your space ship in creative ways to sneak past the enemy ships and trigger various buttons to open passages to the next level. It is a completely linear progression where you need to solve one level in exactly the way you're supposed to go to the next.

BUT... the puzzle elements are exceedingly well done and the game is all around the perfect blend of challenge and fun. Where the game truly shines is utilizing the Wii U gamepad to its fullest potential. More so than any other game on the Wii U -- even first party titles. It is truly unique in how inseparable the game and the gamepad are.

When playing the game, the gamepad screen shows a control pad which you can trigger to control various aspects of your ship -- engine power, landing gear, sensors, etc. The thumb sticks are used to maneuver the ship and the gyroscope in the gamepad is also needed at points to tweak your ships orientation. There are also countless little tweaks that really make the gamepad shine -- different audio is sent out from the gamepad versus what the main game outputs to your stereo/TV. Also, when your ship is shot down or destroyed the control panel shown on the gamepad will flicker and glitch its way to black. This can really freak you out when you get immersed.

I would not be surprised if this game never comes to cemu or other emulators/platforms in a way in which it is playable by a single person. It is so tied to the gamepad DNA that it's difficult to see how it could ever be playable anywhere else. At a minimum, you would need an emulator that is capable of sending a clickable version of the gamepad video to some secondary screen. So maybe if you had 2 displays and used a mouse to click on the second one. But that could not hope to capture the tactile intensity of playing this game as it was designed. Truly replicating that would require being able to network 2 Nintendo Switches (or a PC and a tablet that had thumbstick attachments on either side) so one device could output the main screen and the second device would serve as the gamepad stand-in. I'm curious if cemu or other emulators will ever reach the point where this game is playable single-player in a way that feels natural.

I suspect that this game is truly unique in how inseparable it is from the gamepad. Or, if there are other games out there that rely as heavily on the gamepad while also being as good as this game is.

I do wish it had an actual story with cut scenes and story progression but, as an indie title, it's easy to see how and why this wasn't added in. So again, a solid 8 out 10 but also, a must own for everyone with a Wii U.

We are KnapNok Games and Nifflas' Games and our game, Affordable Space Adventures, is coming out on Wii U eShop soon......ish - Ask Us Anything!

Who we are:

I’m Lau Korsgaard (u/EnButtetSkude), Game Designer at KnapNok Games, an indie studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark, where we are currently finishing our game Affordable Space Adventures. Our previous game Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party got some attention for using the Wii U Gamepad in new ways.

I won’t be doing this alone, however. I have Nicklas Nygren (u/NicklasNygren), from Nifflas’ Games, our Game Director, and Anchel Labena (u/Anchelspain), PR guy, joining me for the ride. Nicklas in particular also worked on another game you can find on the Wii U eShop right now: Knytt Underground.

This is us at the studio: (http://imgur.com/AyVDF0T)

In our collaboration between the two companies, KnapNok Games brings its experience with new ways of controlling games and getting players to interact with each other, whereas Nicklas takes his signature immersive worlds and quirky storytelling into the mix to create Affordable Space Adventures.

At 7pm UTC (11am PST/2pm EST) we will be answering your questions. So feel free to start asking things so everyone can upvote those you want to hear our answers from the most!

The game

Affordable Space Adventures lets you enjoy all thrills and excitement of space exploration on a budget. Thanks to Uexplore’s guaranteed promises of comfort, fun and safety, you’ll be able to fly the newest Small Craft ™ line of affordable spaceships into an adventure exploring the fabulous alien planet of Spectaculon. And the intuitive and simple Heads Down Display technology offers all the functionality and flexibility of Heads Up Displays installed in more expensive spaceships, but at a fraction of the price. You don’t have to travel alone either! Up to three people can join your ship for exciting adventures.

If you still have no idea of what the heck we’re talking about, I recommend you have a quick look at either this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3HLYTpnKv0) or this other teaser trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y428C7g2oUs) to get an idea of the game.

Looking for more interesting multiplayer games like Affordable Space Adventures

I love that ASA was interesting and co-operative but in different ways. My young son and I would play together often and have a blast, but I could also play it alone.

We tried StarFox Zero but it was too much shooting and not enough communication.

Are there any other games that are similar to ASA? I was hoping we'd get "Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" but apparently it was never ported to WiiU.
