I love aviation and warhammer, and i've seen that this game system exists. Is it dead, and if not how do I start?

Bigger battles need smaller miniatures! Recreate the Age of Darkness with Legions Imperialis.
Looking around for some Storm Eagles, Thunderhawks, and Xiphons and pricing seems to be all over the place.
Are these even in stock at Games Workshop?
What were the prices for these flyers? Have seen anywhere from $50 to $100 for just one Thunderhawk.

So, not wanting to incite anyone and straight out ask "is the game dead?" I was wondering if there is any indication for new Starter Sets etc? As it seems the current starter is hard to come by as well as official rules publications being rather hard to find to actually play with certain factions (as it seems books are moving into ePub format from Gdubs themselves.
I know there are lots of ways to get Rules online, get Battlemats custom printed etc. However I am wondering how the "official" state of the game is going?

I know a lot of people dislike the lack of xenos, but assuming I don’t care about that, is it a good game?
If I was someone who was buying a bunch of flyers for Legions Imperialis, would it be worth me trying out?
How close in scale are these models to 6mm? Thinking about picking a few up but they look a little big. If anyone has any reference it would be awesome if you could help thanks in advance!
