i swear, last night i spent two hours trying to defeat the acromantula during the plight of the house elf quest and couldn’t do it. does anyone have any tips? I tried using ancient magic, put its head under the ground, dodged its attacks, etc. help!

And here's why:
It is possible to collect and weave spider silk into garments, but it takes an awfuly long time and I'm not convinced that it's at all possible to dye the silk. Still, the time cost in making acromatula silk cloth is not the part with which I have issue. In fact, the size of individual acromantula would make the collection part much easier, and therein lies my problem.
How much larger than even the biggest species of ordinary spider is an acromantula? By comparison to a Goliath Birdeater, an acromantula is vast. Titanic. It's silk threads must, therefore, be proportionally larger, too. Now, I realise that spiders are capable of spinning threads of different thicknesses - and other properties - for different purposes, but I still cannot believe that even the thinnest of these is less than a millimeter thick, and that's being generous. I imagine them to be more like wool yarn.
So, far from a fine and smooth fabric, acromantula silk would look - at the most generous - like rough hessian or coarse linen. But probably more like knitted wool. And that's saying nothing about how a fibre as tough and strong as spider silk would actually feel to wear. How do fabrics made of the toughest and strongest fibres we know feel? I'm thinking nylon webbing for seatbelts or straps, or kevlar. It's rough stuff, and certainly not something I'd want to wear against my skin.
Now, don't get me wrong, acromantula silk would be a status symbol; the effort and risk involved in harvesting silk from a man-eating and sapient species of giant spider would make the material incredibly expensive to obtain, and it would have some remarkable protective properties. But it would not look like the finest silkmoth silk. It would not flow like water, nor shimmer. It would not make elagent garments. Ankle-length robes of the stuff would look like chunky knitwear, and be stiff and unpleasant to touch.

**It's like Ask Science, but all questions and answers are written with answers gleaned from the universe itself.** Use in-universe knowledge, rules, and common sense to answer the questions. So Hagrid was known for breaking rules, fraternizing with strangers, keeping monster pups amd brawling with juvenile trolls. And Tom Denem was a teacher's pet. I understand the part were they expelled him. But he clearly had a giant spider. Nobody examined the bodys? If they died from gaze, they dont have poison or bite marks. If they died from poison, well then the bite marks dosent match. Lets say the basilisk was young and much smaller, a snake like creature still has a distinctly different bite than a spider of any kind. Dosent they have professors of magical zoology? Maybe no because Newt was a great figure that did that branch of science some good work but still, probably even untrained personel can tell the two from each other. Also Mirtill saw two eyes, two, yes there are spiders with two eyes, but most has at least four. In the case of a very rare acrumantula this could be explained, but Aragog was way to small for that. So was it just blatant incompetence and a chance not to close school or was there something else?

Myrtle died because she looked the basilisk in the eyes. So I assume there were no puncture marks in her skin. Therefore, how do they propose Aragog would have killed her?
The Department of Magical Law enforcement is terrible. They never seem to get it right.

I’m not someone who fears spiders, in fact Aragog was one of my favourite characters in the HP series, I’m loving the game so far as well but what I want most after unlocking the vivarium is to be able to catch and befriend an acromantula however the only 2 exposures we get your forced to kill them, I feel this was quite a missed opportunity due to the venom being such a resource that could have been farmed and used in potions plus they’re just so cool.

It never really made sense to me why Aragog doesn't speak with Hagrids accent considering it was Hagrid who raised him.
Also I just thought this scene would be pretty funny.
"Wha' is it?" he said, clicking his pincers rapidly.
...
"Is it Hagrid?" said Aragog, moving closer, his eight milky eyes wandering vaguely.
...
"Kill 'em," clicked Aragog fretfully. "I was sleepin ......"
...
"Hagrid has never sent men inter hollow before," he said slowly.
....
"In trouble?" said the aged spider, and Harry thought he heard concern beneath the clicking pincers. "But why has he sent yeh?"
...
"But tha' was years ago," said Aragog fretfully. "Years an' years ago. I remember it well. That's why they made him leave the school. They believed that I was the monster that dwells in what they call the Chamber of Secrets. They thought that Hagrid had opened the Chamber and set me free."
...
"I!" said Aragog, clicking angrily. " I was not born in the castle. I come from a distant land. A traveler gave me ter hagrid when I was an egg. Hagrid was on'y a boy, but he cared fer me, hidden in a cupboard in the castle, feeding me on scraps from the table. Hagrid is me good friend, an' a good man. When i was discovered, an' blamed fer the death o' a girl, he protected me. I have lived here in the forest ever since, where hagrid still visits me. He even found me a wife, mosag, an' yeh see how our family has grown, all through Hagrid's goodness......”
...
"Never," croaked the old spider. "It would have bin me instinct, but out o' respect fer Hagrid, I never harmed a human. The body o' the girl who was killed was discovered in a bathroom. I never saw any part o' the castle but the cupboard in which I grew up. Our kind like the dark an' the quiet......”
....
"The thing tha' lives in the castle," said Aragog, " is an ancient creature we spiders fear above all others. Well do i remember how I pleaded with hagrid ter lemme go, when I sensed the beast moving abou' the school"
...
"We do not speak o' it!" said Aragog fiercely. "We do not name it! I never even told Hagrid the name o' tha' dread creature, though he asked me, many times."
...
"Go?" said Aragog slowly. "I think not ......
...
"Me sons an' daughters do not harm Hagrid, on me command. But I cannot deny 'em fresh meat, when it wanders so willingly inter our midst. Good-bye, friend o' Hagrid."

Just finished reading Fanstastic Beasts And Where to Find them and find that Acromantula eggs are pretty illegal, so how did Hagrid come across it when he was just a boy?
If he never had Aragog, he wouldn't be blamed for and expelled from the school
And isn't Fanstastic Beasts And Where to Find them required in first year, so he should know.

I re-read the Goblet of Fire recently and in the chapter titled 'The Third Task' there is a point where Harry and Cedric are both racing toward the Triwizard Cup when they are attacked by a giant spider. The book simply describes it as a giant spider and not an Acromantula, and it doesn't speak like Acromantula are able to. Yes, it could still be an Acromantula and was just described as a giant spider but let's think about this. Would Hagrid have captured or borrowed one of Aragog's children to use in the Tournament, knowing that it could possibly be killed by one of the champions? Would Aragog even allow one of his children to be used, even if it was safe? I don't believe so. Which means this giant spider is not an Acromantula and we can reason that it was likely captured from the Forest, meaning that there are in fact other species of giant spiders living there.

Like the title says, Harry is a Professor that defends hogwarts against the spiders. In the scene, he is flying a broom and sending fire down to destroy the acromantula. Dumbledore has to go to hogsmeade to defend against giants or dementors. The students assist him by shooting through the windows. Not sure if its a time travel fic in the past with marauders or harry travels back from the future to teach current students. I think the fic is Harry/Narcissa? Also, harry may not be a professor but definitely goes by Peverell
