I recently watched “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”. My wife suggested it as she had seen it years earlier after learning a lot about the namesake. It was a really good vampire movie and deserved better exposure and reviews. I wouldn’t have given it a chance had she not recommended it. I hope more people take the time to watch it. The movie is very entertaining and the threading into history was well done. It is a worthwhile couple of hours spent.
It is meant to take itself seriously - it’s not a comedy; just a well written and well acted vampire movie.
“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is without a doubt the best film we are ever likely to see on the subject

Underrated (adjective): /ˌəndəˈrādəd/ - Not rated or valued highly enough. Used to describe a piece of artistic expression that wasn't critically well-received but that a person believes deserves higher praise. It does not mean that a movie isn't well-known.

Just came across it on Hulu. Who the fuck came up with such a ridiculous script? Charismatic politician by day, vampire slayer by night. Running around with an axe and jumping from horses to horses fighting monsters with superhuman speed and abilities. He doesn’t have any special abilities, nothing. He just magically keeps up. Don’t get me started with vampires fighting alongside the Confederacy so that they can keep feeding on slaves.
Still… I loved it. Action scenes are so over the top but I don’t care. It’s fun IF you’re willing to turn you brain off. Anthony Mackie is pretty decent in it and there are some cool avengers team up moments. That is all.

I think that Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is really fun movie, the premise is ridiculous, but it absolutely worked. Also, it doesn't have to be vampires, it can be any monster out there. I think a movie on Bass Reeves as a demon killer would be dope.

Don't listen to the critics on this one. Usually I am all for critics' opinion on movies but I decided to ignore them this one time. I'm glad I did. It is as ridiculous as one would expect. The 3D is very well done. The action is very well shot (this is the director of Wanted, Night Watch, and a few other movies, so there is a lot of speed ramping and ridiculous kills). For an action movie, it is decently thought provoking (comparing slave owners to vampires is pretty interesting).
The main criticism critics had is that it is too self serious. However, Seth Grahame-Smith (the writer) was never aiming for an action-comedy. I was at a Q&A session with him a few months ago (he is an alum of my school, so he comes back every now and then) and he said he didn't want to make a joke out of it.
Anyway, if the trailers look interesting, if the premise sounds interesting, if you like vampire movies, or if you like Wanted and other super-stylized action movies you should totally see Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (in 3D is even better).

VH leads perfectly into Spielberg's movie. Lincoln defeats the forces of darkness in Part 1 then saves the Union in Part 2.

Once or twice in our lives, we come across something that is truly special. Something that changes who we are as a person, that makes us look at everything that’s passed and everything that’s to come in a new light. For me, I found that something in the form of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Let me paint a picture for you here: I’ve been in Europe for a week, inhaled a Marlboro factory in Paris, and have been awake for over 24 hours while flying home to Kansas. On the flight across the ocean, I am given a choice of movies at my beck and call. While I indulged in Rocky and Casino Royale later on, the first movie I watched was AB:VH. To my sleep-deprived mind, it was the most jarring movie I could’ve watched. Half of it is built like it’s a joke, but the other half is built like a serious picture.
Every effect is laughably shitty, every action scene is beyond wacky (especially a certain fight during a stampede, I won’t spoil it), and the premise is fucking loony. But the actors are taking themselves seriously, there’s not a single joke cracked, and it’s so pretentious, it even opens with a Bible quote.
Everyone should, if you find yourself on a Delta flight, take the time to watch it. It is the strangest movie I’ve ever seen. It leaves you with more questions than answers, and of them one is most predominant:
How the hell did this get made?
