Hi everyone -- a couple years ago (lol, thanks to the very long academic publishing timeline), with a lot of valuable participation from this community, my collaborator and I conducted a study on the experiences of contemporary dumbphone use, specifically in cases where individuals opted to use one when they had ready opportunity and resources to use a smartphone instead. And as a personal aside, as a part-time dumbphone user myself, I found this work so interesting to conduct because the of the range of experiences, both really positive and negative, that come with being (dis)connected, especially regarding the pandemic.

I am currently planning an exchange trip from Melbourne, studying Global Studies (Human Rights) - which kind of covers all things from international relations, diplomacy, political philosophy/sciences and more!

After doing my own research on countries that I want to go to, Finland struck a cord with me and I am so excited about travelling to, studying and living in your country.

I was wondering if anyone had advice on which university out of these two (Helsinki and Aalto) would best suit an international student with some interests like me / what your personal experiences are with these universities and the differences between them.

Also where is best to stay in terms of location (proximity to university / access to other parts of town)

I am an avid Boxer, love nature - specifically hikes - running and techno (As well as most kinds of live music) and I love meeting new people and making meaningful connections

I guess more of my question is whether Finland and specifically one of these universities do you think better suits my interests.

Hey everyone.

I am starting to apply to Aalto University in Finland. I have boiled down to three choices in programs.

1. Signal processing and Data Science.

2. Electronics and Nanotechnology.

3. Computer Science.

I have done bachelors in Computer Engineering with a CGPA of 3.23/4.

Im confused because I cant decide between Nanotechnology and Computer Science.

I meet the requirements of subjects in CS but the required CGPA in it is 3.3/4.

I also meet requirements in Nanotechnology but it requires physics as a subject and I've only studied Applied Physics once in my 1st semester.

Can anyone help me understand the scopes of these programs in job fields and help me decide? or suggest better programs?

I accepted a postdoc offer from Aalto University. I'm looking for an apartment but I have no idea where to look at and what to expect. I have some questions:

-I have a cat. Is it easy to find apartments that allow cats?

-I plan to rent a cheap place in 40min public transportation radius of Aalto university. Where should I look at?

-If the rent is too expensive, I may consider renting a room in a shared apartment. Is there a website for people looking for roommates?

Beside these, do you have any recommendations about life in Finland?

Hi, I got accepted to both universities in master of CS. In UoH is Algorithms and machine learning major. In Aalto is Big data and large scale system major. I'm confusing as hell, don't know which one should I choose due they will have really similar courses.

And after of graduation, I want to do Phd degree. Which school is easier for getting a funded Phd position? Is it possible and not really mater to study master at one and apply for Phd at another one? Any recommend? Thanks

And I realised this is apparently part of a course called "Introductory Finnish Online Course: Learning Finnish Together", which you can see a short intro video for here:

But looking at Aalto's website, I can't find anything there relating to this online course. So if anyone has any information or can find out I'd appreciate it. I have also emailed their admissions email address to ask, so I'll let you guys know what they say.

Something like this would be so good for me as I live/work in London and won't be able to take a month off to attend a course in person...
