And I will never forgive them for it. I'm only in the middle of the first book and I feel insulted. I loved ASOIAF because of its deft prose, inversion of tropes, complicated characters, dynamic worldbuilding, and varying perspectives. This book is just a guy jerking himself off. It's a blatant power fantasy about an edgy dark hero with a dark past and a doomed romance. Its giving jaime lannister but without any of the inner turmoil and emotional growth. Fans say that its supposed to sound like that because the protagonist is narcissistic and hyping himself up, but if i wanted to listen to a narcissist I'd just talk to my mom smh. This book is supposedly renown for its worldbuilding, but in ASOIAF the world feels ALIVE, it evolves and changes. This world feels elaborate, but static.
I totally respect that it's super popular and a lot of people like it, but can we stop calling a chicken a duck? This book isn't nearly as revolutionary, people hype it up way too much for what it is
Edit: thanks for the recs guys, I'm reading The Blade Itself rn and it's way more to my taste

Stuff like "AFFC is the best book" doesn't really count because even if it might be unpopular with the general public, it's a popular opinion here.
I'll start: there are problems with the ending beyond poor execution. Bran (a 10 year old) becoming king through a Great Council is a bad plot point regardless of execution.

Who knows what sick, twisted thoughts lurks in the hearts of worldbuilders? Worldjerking knows! A warning to all travellers: here be splitting rivers, elven subraces, original characters (do not steal), and magic systems... so many magic systems. Turn back now, or may God have mercy on your soul. tl;dr: this sub is for satirizing trends in the hobby of worldbuilding, as well as those within the broader speculative fiction community.

I'll start: Despite their hype both in and out of universe, the Dothraki are a very poor man's mongol horde, and would absolutely fail in conquering Westeros, even if they ravaged it a bit.
Every argument I've seen about this fails to convince me otherwise. All their major successes we know of happened around the Century of Blood, against mostly isolated city states or minor peoples. They've never even remotely faced anything like Westeros, in size or power, the closest having been the Sarnori.

obviously, not cases where the author has died before they could complete a series,
but cases where a writer had tons of creative energy and then just didn't for any number of reasons and just stopped writing the series with fans poking them with a stick trying to get them to write ever since
