I enjoyed Ainori more than Terrace House

This is coming from someone who has watched all seasons of Terrace house, at least 5+ times. If anyone wants to get their Terrace House fix, they should look into Ainori. Personally my favorite season of Terrace House was the first one because it felt so authentic. The more seasons that went by, the more it felt like the show was just a way for people to launch/promote their business.

I like Ainori because it shows lots of great genuine human moments between the cast. It seemed like they actually cared about each other. The best part of Ainori for me is not the dating/romance but the raw, genuine human interactions.

I will say the production quality is MUCH lower on Ainori compared to Terrace House (it kind of has to be considering all the travelling they're doing). One thing you really got to give to Terrace House is that they have amazing production quality and the shots are beautiful, especially in the later seasons.

If you want a more dating-oriented show, I also liked Shuffle Island. It does feel a little fake at times as well but you have less of the constant brand-promotion going on that you see in Terrace House.

Please don't hate me, I love Terrace House lol. I'm actually watching it again from the start because I've watched too much Ainori recently

Ai no Sato (Love Village), Ainori successor, Episode 9-12

Ai no Sato schedule on Netflix is like 4 episodes every Tuesday, episodes release around early morning (New York Time).

Btw, tomorrow (May 17) Heart Signal 4 (하트시그널4) will release its first episode, it's probably going to be available on Viki/KOCOWA/etc.

Heart Signal 4 teaser videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95SLY5leyZE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naY8aypAjbo

Heart Signal is like the Korean version of Terrace House, but focused more on dating. This 4th season of the Korean version is highly anticipated as it's been 3 years since the 3rd season (oh and there was the Heart Signal spinoff called Friends in early 2021). Some people consider the 2nd season of Heart Signal (Korean Version) to be one of the best dating shows ever.

There's also the Chinese version of Heart Signal (心动的信号), a lot of people like it (some prefer certain seasons/pairings/etc. over other Korean/Japanese/etc. dating shows), especially Season 2 and the recently completed Season 5. They're preparing for Season 6 now.

For Heart Signal, the original Korean version and some seasons of the Chinese version should be on Viki. For the first season of the Korean version, it's on OnDemandKorea.

With the Chinese version of Heart Signal, it's available on the WeTV/Tencent Video website (has English subs), and also their WeTV/Tencent Video channels on Youtube for free but without proper English subs.

Through the Tencent Video Youtube channel you'll have to use auto-translate from Chinese/Mandarin or maybe say Thai, Vietnamese, etc. So for English subs you have to check their own WeTV/Tencent Video/etc. website.

A show that's actually more like Ainori Love Wagon is Twinkle Love (怦然心动20岁).

For Twinkle Love (怦然心动20岁) Season 3, you know Shen Yue from Meteor Garden, A Love So Beautiful, et cetera? She's one of the panelists for Twinkle Love Season 3 now, there's pictures of it on Weibo, check iheartu2's Twitter and so on. Jam Hsiao is also returning (prepare for his crying, haha, he gets so invested and emotional just like us viewers). Season 3 of Twinkle Love might release maybe around this summer or later this 2023.

Twinkle Love is the best youth/etc. show, it's like a way chill version of Ainori: Love Wagon, but for Chinese university students. Sometimes the Twinkle Love panelists (and everyone) have really hilarious reactions/situations too, lmao.

The YOUKU dating shows like Twinkle Love (怦然心动20岁) often have bonus content, like versions of the episodes without the panelists, actual unreleased scenes, livestreams with the housemates watching the episodes together, et cetera.

Twinkle Love (怦然心动20岁), Season 1 Episode 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxP-Ye9kr24

Twinkle Love Season 2 has Sun Xiu and Wu Shuyang (Little Wu or 小吴), they got great visuals and personalities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFBC-aR2tmk&t=1324s

Try to ignore the in-show advertisements with the Chinese dating shows as it can be immersion-breaking, lol. Makes it feel so scripted/staged/etc.

Shows like Love Village (Ai no Sato), Ainori, et cetera

Now that the Love Village has completed its first season, it might be another year or so for another season or for Ainori Love Wagon's return.

I wrote a reference post with lots of past thread links (I really gotta centralize or just group it together as some people got angry at me for having so much reddit thread links (because of spam/etc. especially for the mobile users instead of the old.reddit.com or RES (r/Enhancement) users), like they want me to put it on my profile instead with just 1 thread link), so click through there if you want a bit more info on the shows and so that it's not such a blind watch.

Don't worry, I rarely ever spoil the shows and it'll probably be safe to browse through the majority of those past threads/comments. Just be aware that it's often super long posts though.

Anyway, here's the shows like Love Village, Ainori, et cetera on the r/ainori subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ainori/comments/13vqxt6/ai_no_sato_love_village_ainori_successor_episode/

Basically for travelling there's this Korean variety show called Love Me Actually (from 2019).

And there's also like this Chinese version of Ainori Love Wagon, except it's for Chinese university students, it's called Twinkle Love (怦然心动20岁), and Season 3 just started, Episode 2 should be out this Wednesday or so on the YOUKU Youtube channel with English subtitles.

For actual dating shows with older or more mature housemates, there's like: I Am Solo/나는 SOLO (r/IamSolo); Relationship S3/Let's Fall In Love Season 3 (我们恋爱吧 第三季); Shanghai Sharelife (r/Shanghaisharelife), Chinese version of Terrace House; and so on.

I Am Solo is available on Viki/KOCOWA/etc.

Relationship S3/Let's Fall In Love Season 3 is available on YOUKU's Youtube channel with English subs too.

For Shanghai Sharelife, it's also on YOUKU's channel but you need to go through Amara for proper English subtitles by ShibaSubs: https://www.reddit.com/r/terracehouse/comments/10e0lg5/that_girl_who_was_obsessed_with_the_noodle_museum/j4oimk9/

Oh and Heart Signal 4 (하트시그널4) is like on Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, etc. now, so it's more accessible to other people.

Heart Signal 4 seems like it'll have an older cast this time around, so it should be more mature and laidback too.

Btw, they changed the schedule of Heart Signal 4 from every Wednesday (competing against I Am Solo, and Heart Signal 4 got really low ratings right now) to now every Friday instead.

Where to watch Kdramas, Korean variety shows, and so on (basically Viki, VIU, Disney+, Netflix, et cetera, might need VPNs): https://www.reddit.com/r/koreanvariety/comments/10fpzhx/overall_thoughts_on_love_catcher_in_bali/j5cmhaw/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/koreanvariety/comments/13bmtin/anyone_know_where_can_i_watch_the_below_korean/jjbtnuz/

Ai no Sato (Love Village), Ainori successor, Episode 13-15

Ai no Sato schedule on Netflix is like 4 episodes every Tuesday, episodes release around early morning (New York Time). But this time we got just 3 episodes, and it says on May 30 is the date for the final 3 episodes.

So Love Village/Ai no Sato only has 18 Episodes in total.

Btw, there's a more active subreddit for Love Village, it's r/LoveVillage1. There's also r/AiNoSato but it became unmoderated a couple of weeks or so ago, and so nobody can post there at the moment unless somebody requests the subreddit from reddit (r/redditrequest).

Oh and if you guys want more ~40+ years old housemates, I Am Solo/나는 SOLO (r/IamSolo) is also about to finish airing its Season 14. Episode 7 of I Am Solo Season 14 is gonna release soon (it releases every Thursday) on Viki/etc.

Ainori (1999)

Hello,

I'm searching for older episodes of the Fuji Television variety show "Ainori". I'm looking for episodes from the original run (aired from October 1999 to March 2009). The youtube channel I was watching from made all their videos private, and I don't remember the user name to ask permission to watch.

Imdb for the show:

Thank you in advance for any help!

Wow, Ai no Sato finished, hopefully we get Ainori/etc. next year too.

Sorry this post got super long, I'll maybe try to shorten it later to make it not so bloated to read. Just wanted to share other shows like Ainori/Ai no Sato/et cetera even if outside of Twinkle Love (怦然心动20岁), there's really no equivalent to the traveling part of Ainori/et cetera.

And because like Japanese dating shows, variety shows, and so on are rarely subbed in English or any language at all. See the ABEMA Youtube channel for example, they never have subs despite having the initial episodes available for free.

Check the ABEMA channel (ABEMA 恋愛【公式】, https://www.youtube.com/@Love_ABEMA/videos) on Youtube for the Japanese dating shows like Heart Signal Japan, Romance Before Debut (ロマンスは、デビュー前に。), Shuffle Island (シャッフルアイランド), et cetera.

Using Google/Youtube autotranslate to watch (East Asian) dating/variety/etc. shows: https://www.reddit.com/r/koreanvariety/comments/13q991t/heart_signal_4_episode_2_230524/jlgihm0/

Well, there was that traveling club variety show called Love Me Actually. It had an older cast too, a lot of the comedians/etc. are in their 30s or late 20s.

Love Me Actually (2019, with Kim Minkyu, Heo Kyunghwan, Yang Sechan, etc.), it had comedians for the male participants and then like minor celebrities/influencers/etc. or regular people for the female participants.

Love Me Actually was so fun, some of us wish there's a season 2 or like say a spiritual successor. It's a traveling club or more like a variety/game show and so on but some situations were so hilarious, rofl.

There's a lot of games/typical variety show stuff with Love Me Actually, but it can still give romantic butterflies and so on. And again, ya the hysterically funny situations and reactions.

In terms of pure entertainment Love Me Actually is for sure up there. If you ignore the wackiness from the comedians/etc., there's actually some sweet, romantic, and so on interactions and scenes there. Due to the likeable couples, it's easy to get invested as the show progresses through its initial episodes.

If you guys want more ~40+ years old housemates, I Am Solo/나는 SOLO (r/IamSolo) is also about to finish airing its Season 14. Episode 8 of I Am Solo Season 14 is gonna release soon (it releases every Thursday) on Viki/etc.

Oh and YOUKU started airing Twinkle Love Season 3 (怦然心动20岁 第三季), r/twinklelove3, and it's kinda like Ainori except it's Chinese university students having a field trip before they enter graduate school or the professional world.

For Twinkle Love Season 3, you know Shen Yue from Meteor Garden, A Love So Beautiful, et cetera? She's one of the panelists for Twinkle Love Season 3 now, and it looks like she also got immersed into the show, lol. Shen Yue be raging and cringing with everyone too, lmao. Jam Hsiao has been with Twinkle Love for all three seasons now, prepare for his crying, haha, he gets so invested and emotional just like us viewers.

Basically for Twinkle Love they're university students that are having a field trip around certain Chinese cities/areas, lol. So they get missions, dates, et cetera. They got them islands too, kinda. For this third season, they added new elements to the show as apparently they wanted the students to have the school clubs or in-person events that they couldn't experience during the pandemic or online schooling years.

Twinkle Love has a lot of friendships formed in the show, you get to see bromances, sismances, etc.

As in it's one of the best shows for platonic friendships and all that, and you can see them shipping each other and so on, lmao. Like OMG (with NewJeans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZAgIHmHLdc), they're so meta with Twinkle Love sometimes.

It's also a great show if you want to go back/forward to that freshness of young adult life ([btw, flamingos and parrots are geese] (https://www.reddit.com/r/heartsignal/comments/ns11y8/friends_share_life_terrace_house_twinkle_love/)).

For Twinkle Love, at the end of each day they have to record a message for the person they liked/spent time the most. And listen to their own message (through earbuds) IN FRONT OF EVERYONE, so it's kinda dramatic af, lol.

Twinkle Love is free on the YOUKU channel on Youtube, they have English subs.

Twinkle Love Season 2 (怦然心动20岁 第二季), Episode 1 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78vUkTAhuG8

Twinkle Love Season 3 (怦然心动20岁 第三季), Episode 1 Part 1 and 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJQsdL-oF0k and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL1Oo36Qxls

More info on Twinkle Love and other traveling/culture/et cetera shows: https://www.reddit.com/r/terracehouse/comments/10pyock/im_just_sad_terrace_house_is_gone_i_miss_them_all/j6rhk67/

YOUKU said on its pinned comment for Twinkle Love Season 3 that 1 episode will air every Wednesday. Like the 1st part will be available at 12PM (UTC+8, Beijing/China Standard Time, so for some of us that's like 12:00AM/midnight in New York Time) and then the 2nd part at 10PM (again this is China Standard Time, so just switch it to ~12 hours or AM) on Thursday.

Then YOUKU also want people to join their Youtube membership (lol) in case you want to watch Twinkle Love/their other shows early. So for Twinkle Love it's 34 hours early access and you also get bonus episodes or scenes that weren't found in the original episode release. Usually these are extra scenes of them and so on, check the earlier seasons of Twinkle Love for an idea of what it could be.

Try to ignore the in-show advertisements with the Chinese dating shows as it can be immersion-breaking, lol. Makes it feel so scripted/staged/etc.

Another somewhat mature dating show is Relationship S3/Let's Fall In Love Season 3 (我们恋爱吧 第三季), the majority of the cast were like in their 30s or late 20s and so that contributed to its more mature atmosphere.

Relationship S3/Let's Fall In Love Season 3 (我们恋爱吧 第三季) is so good if you like slice of life. Episode 1 from YOUKU Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JprQ5Fd4Qo

Let's Fall In Love Season 3 is a more mature or really laidback version of these dating shows though as they're in a somewhat rural/etc. area (city of Dali by Erhai Lake in Yunnan, southwest China) and so there's less of that hustle feeling. Some shots of this show really gives you that slice of life bliss.

Like that idyllic, bucolic life, with the picturesque fields, forests, mountains, et cetera.

There's also this Chinese slice of life romcom/drama set in Dali/Yunnan with Liu Yifei or the Mulan actress. It's called Meet Yourself (去有风的地方), here's Episode 1 (with English subs) from the 华策影视官方频道 China Huace TV Official Channel, but you can also watch it on Viki: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uj__X2BRhyo

Oh and don't forget the Chinese version of Terrace House, Shanghai Sharelife (r/Shanghaisharelife), even if the show is kinda ridiculous/absurd/contrived/etc. they still had older than usual housemates (~30 years old) too. The panelists for Shanghai Sharelife are so good and they can turn lot of situations or actions with the housemates into hilarious bits.

Some people's list is probably like this: Shanghai Sharelife preferred over Terrace House, which is favored over Heart Signal (하트시그널 and 心动的信号), and now the EXchange/Transit Love (환승연애) series, with possibly Love Catcher in Bali (러브캐처 인 발리) and Pink Lie (핑크 라이) in tow.

If you haven't watched the original first season of Terrace House, this is kinda how to watch Terrace House: Boys x Girls Next Door: https://www.reddit.com/r/terracehouse/comments/zfkwnq/how_do_i_watch_boys_girls_next_door/izchnov/

The Chinese version of Terrace House, Shanghai Sharelife (r/Shanghaisharelife), also has proper English subs instead of machine translation: https://www.reddit.com/r/terracehouse/comments/10e0lg5/that_girl_who_was_obsessed_with_the_noodle_museum/j4oimk9/

Some people don't like the scriptedness of Shanghai Sharelife too, but stay for the panelists, lol.

Shanghai Sharelife's panelists are often considered at the top of these dating shows and they can/will influence how you perceive the housemates' personalities, actions, et cetera. They make some situations extra funny, just like Terrace House's panelists.

Found old ainori

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I searched for it and couldn't find it. The links on d-addicts seem to be dead too, so I decided to search for it in korean and ended up finding it.

Here it is! It starts from episode 50, the quality isn't great and some episodes have korean subtitles but it's good enough for me so I decided to share if anyone is interested.

Future Ainori? How it could improve

I’m nearly at the end of S2 and I think the format needs some work. It’s an enjoyable show but there are some major issues.

  1. Consider having a 2 stage way that people exit. First an initial confession but if a couple forms they get to stay until the group leaves that country, then they leave together. This way you won’t get the strange timing of the confessions and we get to see how they are as a couple. If they split up between the confession and them leaving they still have to leave - that means they take it seriously.

  2. Show more of the group’s social time including platonic friendships. Some of the most fun scenes are the very brief clips in the opening credits - even a minute or two of that would give a better sense of the journey and enable us to see how they behave as a group.

  3. Change the panel again. It’s just not working. I don’t know what to suggest, but anything would be better. Get the same mix as the Terrace House panel - more men but some who will actually be amusing.

  4. Avoid what happened in season 2 where one person dominated. If you’re going to have a Depparin make sure that someone in the group has the strength to stand up - AI did well but he left.
