So. For all the time I've been a fan of mlb, Adrien is the most misunderstood character of all, so I decided to sit down and explain it to you, from a 1st person perspective too.
No matter how you look at it, Adrien is really mentally strong. He has got the most common and heartbreaking mental problems and this cute bun... i just don't know how he hasn't gone insane yet.
To understand him fully I'll start with his background. Growing up in a rich and famous family isn't as nice as it sounds. His mother is a model and his father - fashion designer. Even from the start his father was never really close with his son. On the other hand, his mom has a lot more free time and spends more time with him. Since Adrien never really went out, his mother was his closest person, his second being Nathalie. Him and his father barely interacted, and honestly they were both fine with it - you can't miss what you don't have. His life was a pretty boring one too, so his mother was his main distraction, making their bond stronger.
But then, his mother passed out. Adrien's world turned completely upside down. Interestingly, personality plays a huge role on events like these. His positivity, teached by his mother, made him look forward, because life goes on and he accepted the change better and faster. Gabriel held on and never let go, dedicating his life to Emilie, ignoring his son.
Parental figures are parental figures; they can't be replaced by someone. This doesn't make them more important to the child, but still have a big role in its life, no matter how distant they are. Adrien's father is the only person who feel what Adrien is feeling, but he isn't there for his son, leaving him feeling alone and misunderstood for the year and above after the death of his mother, who was also his best friend.
note: Chloe is kinda irrelevant, because she doesn't influence him in any way, I haven't forgotten her lol.
Never ever ever leave a person too long with their thoughts. EVER. No matter how much you hate society. You just start to drown yourself. You're torn apart, unable to collect the pieces. Asking for help from such a person is an amazing achievement.
Parental neglection sucks, but emotional neglection can completely destroy a person. It makes you feel worthless and unwanted, and not understanding what the heck is happening with you is the cherry on top.
But emotional neglection has a bestie apparently. H i ! Depression's here!
Adrien is depressed. At some extent he always will be because we can't just forget the past.
The causes are many: neglection in its full beauty; indifferent father and a dead mother, whose body he doesn't even know where it is(like the hek he deserves to know at least that) and just being a teenager is fan enough justification. 50% of teens are depressed. (And I have a social anxiety like life pls leAve me aLone plZ.) Depression is... Life becomes colorless and all you want is to get trough the day, but at the same time you cry yourself to sleep. On top of all Adrien has a high-functioning depression, which is basically ignoring, or not acknowledging your emotions(?) if you feel anything).
In conclusion for the background if this cinnamon roll, having high-functioning depression and being constantly ignored from his supposedly closest person is what Adrien has to put up with in the last year and a half. And he is sane, congratulations, I love you.
Somewhere in the timeline (or September or when french start school idk), Plagg appears. Weird cheese obsessed cat-like creatute, that would rather let the world get destroyed while he levitates and eats that stinky camembert. He is the bit of chaos Adrien desperately needed in his life. But that icon make him Chat Noir.
Adrien being Chat Noir is the best thing that ever happened to him. Like ever.
New face, new name, without anyone to stop him HE CAN BE HIMSELF!!(hallelujah). This feeling of freedom and a new beginning is just the best feeling ever. Chat Noir is Adrien himself, with boundaries he set himself, with the life he chose.
As Chat he makes seemingly "bad" decisions it seems apparently for most ppl, most likely impulsive, because he never learned how to control his emotions and when he sees LB in danger his brain goes Fight-or-Flight, instinct, or initial reaction.
Also not knowing what he wants to with life in Wishmaker, is really sad, because he's so restrained of not having a life, he does not know what he wants.(toxic parents really drive me crazy hhh)
Ladybug to Chat relationship (really shortened) is absolutely priceless for him and he would even give his own life for her. She is the only one who understands him, even better than his mom I'm sure, and he loves her and needs her, so he tries to hide his trauma with humor and keep her around in a light-hearted environment; encourage her and to genuenly show his love
In the New York special, he gave his ring to LB, because he understood he messed up a lot, and thought that she would be like everyone and switch him up because he failed.
Making decisions for himself, that is something new; growing in unhealthy abusive relationships all you think about is now. Screw the past, screw the future, acting impulsively is the first and fastest reaction. Here making mistakes might cost him losing his friend forever. And he just needs Ladybug, because otherwise he's an empty broken puppet. His sanity and mental health need someone who cares for him.
Chat Blanc is an interesting villain; showing what potential Adrien has to be the villain and how fragile it actually is a person when it comes to such destructive emotions like depression. He snapped. But not for himself, showing his kind nature. He snapped at the thought of that his closest person in the world is sad, and that his dad would betray him like that and was even going to manipulate her. Such a backstab was the final drop the glass would take; he gave into his emotions and snapped. So simple. But later the other destructive power appeared after he killed everyone he loved. Regret. When he saw Ladybug he could have easily destroyed her, but his love is genuine and he would even suffer more, just to keep her around for a bit more.
Having all of this in mind, the reason why he isn't taken as a main character is obvious - the show would be very dark, yet meaningful and the target audience wouldn't be little children.
Adrien could so much be a villain, but he does his best to make the world a better place, because he doesn't want to see anyone to suffer like him. He is misunderstood and relatable to a lot of people, but he is still a ray of sunshine and shows that life could be better if we really try hard. Pls don't attack him immediately, and think for a moment how he sees the world, because you offend real people alongside him. I love this bun

How do we know if one's a sentimonster? Well in the show the most common method to confirm it/mistake is when Chat Noir cataclysms them. They start acting weird and uncontrollable.
Have we seen our blondie cataclysmed? Yes, we have. Where? In Miraculer. Did i cr-
What happened to him? Well he was hurt, alongside Plagg. Suspicious and unusual behavior? No, not the slightest. It's even impressive that he was back on his feet. Did Plagg do his magic and took most of the damage? He still transformed Adrien as usual
The other important question is: Was that a legit cataclysm? Technically it's a power given by another miraculous. The mouse one can multiply Lucky Charms. With time travel you can have as many as you like i guess at a point in time. So. I believe it is. The only limit Hawkie has is his imagination, and he specifically mentioned "taking powers"
