Housing in Accra

Hi! I'm gonna go to Accra for 5 months with some friends for work. We need housing, for acceptable prices. The first realtor we spoke to suggested 2000$ per person for housing, I guess she just tested the waters...

What is a good area to live in for young europeans who like to see the culture? Are there areas we should avoid? Whats reasonable pricing?

Thank you in advance!

My first visit to Accra

I must say, I came to Ghana and wasn’t expecting much and was open minded. Honestly the city is beautiful!

I worked my way around the hustlers and the thief’s that vulture the airport, I have walked around for a bit and talked to locals. I love Accra because I see the potential in our people and the city itself.

When I finally got a Uber driver that wasn’t trying to hack my ride like I already got in the car he was very informative because I am a straight forward and honest person. He feels the same way about things and says he wishes he didn’t grow up here only because he wish he knew what the weight of the situation is here.

In my honest opinion, Ghana needs a few good leaders willing to contribute and eventually good government officials. We gotta start somewhere and that’s why I am here. I love this place, I love my people, but I know there is better for us out there and the future of Ghana.

So much so that I have posted on here a few times looking for people who want to be the change they want to see like I am. I will keep posting on here every now and then to keep bringing good people together but we will build a movement to shake the country. It’s a marathon not a sprint 🇬🇭

Is it me or is Accra a food desert?
  1. Sprawl means longer trips for food

  2. I read in an article the other day that onions are increasingly being held as luxury foods as a result of recent shortages

  3. Relative lack of takeout and dining options, esp for local and regional African cuisine

  4. Trade in local fruit and veg is dominated by lots of tiny market traders, so difficult for economies of scale to be reached and exploited

Food spots/hidden gems in Accra

Hey all. My names Cas (27male) I’m from London and visiting ghana in Feb for a month. I love Ghanaian food and so am looking for some recommended chop bars/food joints. Looking for any gob3/waakye/chop bar/street food spots etc - local food no fancy restaurants.

Have been to a few of the most popular ones on my last trip but looking for some local favourites!

I’m staying in asylum down but willing to travel.

Thanks!

Also up for meeting new people so if you know a good spot and would want to join me let’s make it happen! Easy 🙏👊

American guy here for the week- in Accra

Hey everyone.

I'm visiting Accra for work this week. Free today and all of tomorrow and some evenings and just looking to explore Accra. If anyone wants to hangout let me know the cooler bars cafes neighborhoods . Dunno anyone in the city and the idea of wandering around alone is not ideal.

Me: 35 white/latin living in nyc. Pretty chill- big into travel (about 90 countries). I work in politics. Speak 5 languages professional/well-educated and more of a beer than vodka person. My schedule is tight but dm me if interested.

Oh I'm also a stand-up comic :)

Where to get ADHD diagnosis and medication in Accra

I’ve (25F) been struggling for a while now to get even the most basic tasks done. I keep missing deadlines and getting uncontrollably distracted.

For context, I’ve struggled with this my whole life but it feels worse now bc I used to be able to hunker down when deadlines were approaching. But for close to a decade now, I haven’t even been able to do that.

I recently realised it might be ADHD due to other symptoms I’ve had since childhood. And I think it’s time I took some tests to figure out if I have it or if I’m just lazy lol.

Anyone know where I could access a diagnosis and prescription for meds in Accra?

How much would a trip to Accra, Ghana be?

Looking to go to Accra Ghana and I'm wondering how much it would be. I did a budget based on flight, airbnb, and food/dates and came up to 4500 dollars (plane = 1700 usd).

To anyone who's been there does that sound like too much or too little?

Working in Accra and living in ashaiman is becoming really hectic.

My current job is around Tudu Accra and it's really taking a toll on me to move in and out of Accra daily. I spend close to 4 hours going in and out of Accra everyday and the transport fare moved from 10ghs - to 19ghs in a year. Almost double the initial amount and my salary has not increased in anyway.

I will like to find a job close to home so I can have time for my self and my young family.

Hello reddit, help me find a job around Tema. I am a systems engineer/ administrator by profession with 9 years working experience. I am also a self taught devops engineer and python automation engineer.
