Very bad a levels results

Hi all, congrats on your results be it good or bad. If y’all work hard, congrats! If y’all never work hard, also congrats!

I did my A’s almost 10 years ago. During my prelims, I didnt really study much. I have all the resources, question banks and notes but I was just so lazy. Excluding PW, I scored UUU/US. S for GP. That’s like 5 RP?

At that point I knew I was screwed. Even my TA talked to me personally to wake me up but I didn’t. Still playing computer games and skipping revision classes. Of course, I did study but didn’t really put in much effort.

During my GP paper, I thought I did slightly well. I wrote an essay about technology and gave some good examples on my pointers and arguments but I got an E. Lmao ( I was aiming C ).

During my H2 math paper, I remembered p1 I couldn’t do like 80% of the questions. I just wrote rubbish. For p2 I can do like 80% of the questions? Got B overall. ( I was aiming B )

During my h2 chem paper, I didn’t study inorganic chemistry and for organic chemistry, I only studied till Alkenes. You can imagine my preparedness for the exam 🤡. MCQ I did like 30%, p2 I winged it and p3 I left 50% blanks. I got an E surprisingly. ( I was aiming U to retain, that was 1 of the criteria - fail 1 H2 to retain )

During my h2 physics paper, I fell asleep for mcq paper and put A for last 25 MCQs. Lolol. Got a D. ( I was aiming A tbh HAHAHHAA what a joke )

For geography, I just winged it. Got a D.

So from prelim UUU/US to BDE/DE ( PW B ) , that’s about 60 points. Lmao

For those who wanna know what I’m doing, I actually got into NTU with that shitty grades in SPMS and I completed my masters last year from NUS Science. I’m currently doing decently well. (Not in property or insurance)

I guess I’m really lucky.

I’m sure 99% of you did better than me. All the best for your future endeavours. Choose your courses wisely! 😎

[A Levels] A Level Results Comparison 1999-2000

seeing the huge support of my previous post, i thought it would be fun to look at how the various jcs fared 20 plus years ago. i managed to find some statistics from http://www.getforme.com/homepage2003/education_juniorcollegeranking2000.htm and i hope it would be insightful!

do take note that there are major differences to calculating the score for the a levels back then, hence the mean would be a lot lower as compared to what we see today.

"Mean A-Level Points: This column gives the average A-level points obtained by students based on their performance in the best 3 A-level and 2 AO-level subjects (General Paper and mother tongue language). The maximum number of points is 20 (grade A) for A-level subjects and 8 points (grade 1) for AO-level subjects, giving a maximum total of 76 points."

also note that HCI and RI were previously known as HCJC and RJC before they merged with their respective secondary schools

[A levels] Where you could go based on your results 2024 (estimation)
Based on AY2023/2024 IGP
  • Made this post the past 2 years. Hoping this one helps those collecting their A-level results.

  • Note that IGPs are just rough guides. It’s difficult to predict AAA/A courses as PW and GP are assumed to be C but the COP can very well be above 85 RP. Expect higher COPs for courses above 80 RP IGP.

  • These are just guidelines. It possible to get rejected from a course with a lower IGP, and accepted from a course with a higher IGP.

  • All the best to everyone collecting their results or applying for university.

  • If anyone from last year's batch can provide more precise cut-offs, do comment!

  • Do let me know if I made any mistakes.

[A Levels] Detailed Rankings of the A Levels Results of the Various JCs (from 2020-2023)

hi everyone, the o level results are coming in out in less than 24 hours and hopefully you can get into the jc you want! i decided to make a more detailed and cleaner version of the a level results over the years together with some of my own interpretations as well as interpretations from other redditors’ posts (credits to them!) of how each school has been doing over the years to hopefully give you all a better sense of the jcs which you are aiming for!

disclaimer: this is meant to provide a better understanding of the various jcs and should be taken with a pinch of salt as they may not be entirely accurate! special thanks and all credits go to the various users that took the time to compile the respective years’ results so that i can be able to compile them all together under this post!

Evaluation:

Over the years, we continue to see Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution consistently ranking as the top two JCs in the rankings, with Hwa Chong Institution having a slight edge over Raffles Institution (in the years 2021-2023). Both JCs’ academic results can be attributed to the quality of students they take in each year (both having the most stringent cut off point each year). This becomes a self-fulfilling cycle.

We see Nanyang Junior College rising steadily from a decade ago and over the recent years, it has consistently ranked 3rd, just behind Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution. Would it be possible to finally see it overtake RI/HCI? However, Victoria Junior College continues to be neck and neck with Nanyang Junior College despite having a worse COP by 2 points, which can tell us about its quality of teaching.

Finally, National Junior College is trying hard to keep up with the other aforementioned JCs and have been struggling to maintain its position in recent years.

Most schools have either stagnated or improved from the Class of 2019's performance, with the exception of fully-IP schools which only began accepting JAE students in 2019, namely Dunman High School and River Valley High School which both showed significant drops in results since 2019 as compared to the previous cohort. Dunman High School in particular, took a significant plunge compared to previous years where they ranked 2nd overall and were able to score comparably to Raffles Institution and Hwa Chong Institution.

What do you think of these trends? Let’s discuss in the comments!

Overall Rankings:

Where to go if A levels results are bad?

Hello, i don't want to get into too much details, but basically i am currently 19 years old doing my A levels exam. And it's too late now, but I've realized that A levels is just NOT it for me.. i'm thinking of giving up rn cause i don't have any hope for good results whatsoever.

WHAT LEAD TO THIS SITUATION:

It all started back in highschool where i chose the wrong subject. I chose commerce instead of ICT. I did fairly well on commerce as I got B for O levels, but that lead to me having to pick economics and business for A levels which i am absolutely not interested in whatsoever. I couldn't pick computer science bc of this, and I am very interested in computing related things. I got in IT, but that particular subject doesn't teach you programming or game development etc. it also contains theory based work.

I also realized that I'm more into hands on stuff, technical stuff instead of written work or academics. All of the mistakes that I've made and regret, are all due to me not having proper guidance from my tutors on how the world works. I didn't know optional subjects that were offered back in highschool were important, i didn't know A levels required me to excel in writing and thinking skills. No one told me how the world works so i had to just blindly walk a foggy path.

TOPIC:

With that out of the way, is there anyone who've experienced a similar situation to mine and can give me some helpful tips? I'm interested in computing, so i was planning on going to UTB after A levels. But well, looks like that's impossible now since ik my A level results will be terrible. I heard that there's a program or something that lets you in UTB without having exceptional A level results. I believe it's UTB Micronet? Is there anyone here enrolled in micronet that can guide me to how it works?

How're the facilities, what programmes do they offer, fee price, study environment and etc.

edit: alot of people have been recommending me to go for Laksamana College rn and it seems very tempting!

At this moment, i have no doubts that this is the most darkest and depressing time of my life and i'm honestly scared on what my future life will look like.. I just don't know where I'm heading and i hope there are people who have been in similar situations that can help me. thank you very much

(first time using reddit btw, i heard this is a pretty good place for getting advice)

things to note:

  • good O level results

  • i am doing my A levels exam currently and hence why i said it's too late for me to realize it doesn't suit me. i have no hope in achieving good results

r/alevel has got you this week!

It’s a big week for a lot of people here and we wanted to drop in to say, we’ve got you. We’ll be running a series of threads so we can all prepare for Thursday and, when the day comes, celebrate or find support together.

As part of this, we have staff from UCAS who will be posting an AMA on Thursday and answering all of your questions on Friday. We know Thursday will be a really busy day for everyone, so we’re hoping that by running it on Friday it will allow for people to have sorted out anything major and UCAS can be on hand to answer anything else you might want to know.

We’re hoping that the community can really come together this week and remember, whatever happens, you have plenty of options!

[A-levels] Results Journey

Hello everyone, with mcts around the corner and knowing that I’ll probably flunk it (due to lack of studying & being lazy & not keeping up with tutorials), I would like to know what were your results in JC & eventually at A-levels. I think someone did a thread similar to this but I can’t seem to find it :’)

Seniors, if y’all don’t mind, could you share your results journey? Thank you :)

So a lvl results release was today and I saw quite a lot of mixed feelings from everyone in my sch . Some cried, some were annoyed, some were celebrating like mad. For those who did well, not just from my jc, I'm proud of you guys. If you feel like your results are unsatisfactory, js wanna let you know that you did your best. Don't be disheartened, it's not the end of the world. There are still some courses you can eligible for and at least you can go somewhere. Based on AY2022/2023 IGP

  • Made this post last year. Hoping this one helps those collecting their A-level results tomorrow.

  • Note that IGPs are just rough guides. It’s difficult to predict AAA/A courses as PW and GP are assumed to be C but the COP can very well be above 85 RP.

  • All the best to everyone collecting their results or applying for university.

[A levels] CJC results day

Hello, I’m a j3 awaiting results. To CJ alumni , does anyone know if those top scorers will be called in the morning of the results day? If so, usually by what time and what result would qualify a ‘top scorer’ qualify ? Additionally, there is a “library club” in CJ which takes pictures before/after receiving results (maybe go on stage? I’m not so sure) , do people from the “library club” need to go early or something? I kinda need to know the answers to these qns as I plan to eat buffet with my friends before results. Any help would be appreciated !
