Randy Brown on his altercation with Alex Oliveira

TL:DR is at the bottom

After defeating Alex Oliveira by RNC in the first round at UFC 261, Randy Brown was asked about the bad blood between Alex and him. Instead of answering the question in the octagon, Brown said to go to his twitch where he would reveal all the details. I know r/mma was curious about it, but not all of the users were willing to go to these lengths to discover what he said. I, on the other hand, was willing to.

Randy Brown tells this story at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1000971184, but one must skip to 23:00 to hear what he had to say.

I know some of you may not be comfortable, or not willing, to go and watch it so I will transcribe it here. The story is too long to clip on twitch which is why I must go to these lengths. But I will say that this transcript was done by hand and may be lacking in some areas. I highly recommend go watching his explanation

Brown: "So honestly though, the beef was like this. It's not even a real beef, I think. Personally, the whole week I was good with dude. Soon as I go there [Jacksonville], guess who I saw? He was in the hotel, in the lobby, getting checked in. I went to the store, I got something to drink and I was coming back, me and my manager. I see the dude in the hallway and I walk up to him, tap him on the shoulder. Y'know, introduce myself. I say 'Hey.' There's a language barrier, he doesn't speak English, so. But the universal word for respect is Uos(?). So I say 'Uos, sir.' 🙏🏿 [Brown did this gesture while speaking]. I shook his hand, y'know. He [Oliveira] smiled ear to ear. I expected him, y'know he's a super happy guy. And that was it, y'know. All my interviews throughout the week, I spoke about how much I respected him. I'm actually a fan of the dude."

Brown's Companion: "You said that in your interviews."

Brown: "I am a hug fan of Cowboy Oliveira. Like, don't get it twisted, aight? I love the way that dude fights. It's insane! I've been watching him for a while. And... I just didn't get it. We're backstage now, y'know? I watched his interviews too. His interviews, he was super respectful. He said 'We're gonna beat the crap outta each other and get a drink after.' I was like 'Yo, this gonna be lit. I'm gonna be fighting Cowboy this weekend, we gonna go crazy.' I'm backstage, everything is good. Y'know what this dude got mad for? Guess what he got mad about?

Brown's Companion: "Was it the Instagram post?"

Brown: "If y'all go to my Instagram, touchngo_. And.. This dude really. I guess it just got lost in translation. I posted a video of a guy dancing saying 'This is gonna be me when Cowboy starts coming out.' This is because he starts dancing [When he walks out]. Apparently he thought I was making fun of him, saying 'This is how Cowboy looks when he fights.' Or y'know this whole thing on how he walks out and how he fights. And y'know, fighters are sensitive. I told you that. As much as you want to think that fighters are these big macho, y'know whatever it is. These are some of the most sensitive motherfuckers in the world. I'm telling you, this is why we fight. We all got chips on our shoulders and a lot of people are upfront with the humbleness and the martial arts. No, everybody got a huge ego and are fragile as fuck. So, in his mind cause of the language barrier, he thought that I was making fun of him. But I really wasn't. I was just making a joke saying 'This is gonna be me.' So we're at the weigh-ins, backstage, and he was cool, which was weird to me. So I see him at the weigh-ins backstage and when I see him, he's standing right behind me. So I turn around, give him a fist bump. Again, same thing, he smiles and gives me a fist bump and we got up on the stage. So when he got up on the stage I expected him to come with the Ra Ra or stereotypical Cowboy. Smiling and like y'know, with that good energy. Goofy, y'know what I mean. But it wasn't that. It was more like, he was just talking saying something about two. Afterwards I heard, somebody translated what he was saying. He was saying how he's gonna break me in two. 'You're big but you're only one man and you talk too much and I'm going to break you tomorrow.' Which is cool, alright, like this dude can really turn it on. Which is fine if you want to, y'know, get the crowd going. But the way it was, it was different. It wasn't like he was selling the fight. Y'know what I'm saying? So we got backstage. And I was like 'Listen, you keep that same energy.' I don't know if I'm wrong for this, but I'm a human right? Just like anybody else. So I was just like 'If you want to act like this, this is how we gonna keep it.' So I was backstage and I was trying to talk to him. As soon as we went back. He got in my face again and security had to pull us apart. So when security pulled us apart I was like 'Bro I'm about to fuck you up. You're doing a lot, this is unnecessary. And I came to you respectful.' And I was still confused why he was acting like an asshole. So now we're in the fighter's meeting again and this dude is mean mugging me back and forth. And I was like 'I don't know you bro. You don't speak English. I see you on TV. I just operate different. If you get to close to me, Imma... I can't let you get close to me, bro. I just can't, I'm going to have to hit you cause I don't want you to hit me first. That's just how life works. And everybody came in between us again because he was getting to close to me. So I stood up and.. A bunch of bullshit. Rarara and everybody pull us apart. So now we fighting. I'm not going to touch gloves, it's personal. It's personal now. So after we fight, it's no 'Oh yeah good shit.' Keep that same energy man. Get the fuck outta here bro. Don't make me be the bad guy cause y'all don't know the story. Now I'm the bad guy, I'm the asshole. Trash with no class because I told him to fuck off. In that moment, fuck him. In that moment it was fuck you. Alright? I'm not fucking with you. I don't respect what you did and this this isn't 'We buried the hatchet, good fight🤝. I don't fuck with you." But we did end up burying the hatchet. Here's what happened, we we're backstage, I saw his manager. He speaks English and Portuguese. He came up to us, and my team, and we all just started talking. His manager was talking to my manager and we were talking about what happened. Turns out he thought that I was making fun off him [Cowboy]. So I say "Tell him this is me. I'm gonna be dancing becuase when you come out, you're known to dance so I'm gonna dance with you. This is just how I dance." And he felt bad and apologized and we were cool and we took a picture and we're cool now."

Very wholesome picture with Brown and Cowboy after they buried the hatchet

TL:DR Brown posted a meme that was misinterpreted by Cowboy. They figured it out after the fight and are now cool with each other. Fighters are also people, people.
