Aww, cripes. I didn't know I'd have to write a description. How many words is that so far, like a hundred? Soooo, yeah. Mildly interesting stuff. Stuff that interests you. Mildly. It's in the name, ffs.

Moving to Aberystwyth from England

Hoping to get a variety of info and insights here.

I've been looking to move to Wales (because I love it) and I now have the opportunity of maybe moving to Aberystwyth due to work. (I'm not a student - a lot older than that).

What is it like compared to the rest of Wales? I've been to the Gwynedd and Cardiff, but never here. I've heard various different things about it. What is your opinion and experience of Aberystwyth? It appeals to me because I love the sea, the countryside and don't think I'll mind too much being isolated - it's hard to know beforehand though.

How much of a culture shock will it be, moving from the south of England?

Would your advice be similar regardless of where in Wales it is?

I'd love to hear your views!

Christmas Volunteering in Aberystwyth

Prynhawn da,

I'm a uni student at Aberystwyth University.

I don't really have anywhere to go back to for breaks so I will be spending the winter break in Aber. However, I'd feel really bad just sitting about on Christmas doing nothing.

Could anyone signpost me to some volunteering opportunities for Christmas Day in Aber? I'd really appreciate your input.

Diolch!

Carmarthen-Aberystwyth-Pwllheli-Bangor: is there a practical argument for it?

Carmarthen-Aberystwyth-Pwllheli-Bangor: is there a practical argument for it?

There have been a lot of calls recently for reopening the railway line between Carmarthen and Aberystwyth, and a fair few calls to reopen a connection from Pwllheli to Bangor via Caernarfon.

Now, I understand the political/"Nation Building" arguments for this, but is there any practical railway network argument to be made?

From what I understand Carmarthen - Aberystwyth was priced at £750m a few years back, which seems a heck of a lot of money for a line that will pass zero towns with more than about 5k population, plus whatever a Pwllheli/Bangor connection would cost. That seems a heck of a lot of money to spend on a line that doesn't seem to make any practical sense
