RIP PC gaming for the new dad.

[–]brilliantpants 266 points267 points  (17 children)

I have a feeling the newborn phase is quite a bit less stressful for those that can afford a night nurse, a full time nanny, a housekeeper, a laundry service….you get the idea. I shouldn’t think he’ll being missing much gaming at all.

[–]CMDR_KingErvin 69 points70 points  (13 children)

This. Those of us who are just regular people and have to work hard on raising the kids every moment don’t have much time for hobbies. A celebrity who has the means to hire others to help has all the time in the world.

[–]laigledesacores 20 points21 points  (9 children)

Not every rich person likes to hire people to do their chores.

Some would rather spend time with their kids than have their nanny do everything believe it or not lol

Even cleaning laundry etc shouldn’t take that much time except if you live in a huge villa with tons of decorations . Some rich people prefer to do it themselves. Especially the ones that grew up with the common people and don’t come from wealth

[–]Minus15t 15 points16 points  (4 children)

If I was rich enough that I didn't have to work, (or only work for a few weeks of the year) I wouldn't be paying people to do chores etc.

Financial freedom where you don't have to work means you get multiple hours to game, while still having all the time and money you need to do things with your kids / family

[–]Justtojoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get it, time is the luxury

[–]regulomam 2 points3 points  (1 child)

He still has to make movies and act

[–]Minus15t 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, he doesn't *have* to, that's the point... his estimated net worth is $50million, he can afford to never work again if he really wanted to.

But, I also included 'for a few weeks of the year' because principal photography on most movies is a matter of weeks.

[–]Possible-Way1234 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How many rich people do you know? I don't know any without at least one housekeeper and nanny for at least some hours... Especially as the outsourcing of the housekeeping actually gives you time for your family...

[–]VitaminPb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was rich enough to pay somebody to clean/dust occasionally my life would be so much better. I seem to generate a lot of dust.

[–]LuciferLucii 335 points336 points  (69 children)

Naw you find time, your just extra tired.

[–][deleted] 114 points115 points  (56 children)

Well as a gamer I didn't get time until years later to play proper games. There's a reason mobile games are popular.

[–]DGSmith2 69 points70 points  (47 children)

This always confused me, I just played in the evening when the baby went to bed.

[–]saint2388 65 points66 points  (36 children)

My 10 month old wakes up every hour or two and needs resettling. My gaming career is done just phone games that I can drop and pick up later now.

[–]DGSmith2 16 points17 points  (8 children)

Big ooof, my 3 year old slept through the night by 3 months old so we got our evenings back pretty quickly. Our nearly 1 year old did the same so I feel for you.

[–]lucykattan 42 points43 points  (6 children)

What kind of kids did you make? I haven’t slept in eight years

[–]DGSmith2 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Yeah we count ourselves very lucky, don’t get me wrong we still have the odd nights of illness or teething where we are with them but for the most part they go to bed at 7 and the rest of the night is ours.

[–]Maximum-Proposal6435 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Bro here getting the custom OS pre installed out of the box while Everyone else is writing their own code

[–]DGSmith2 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I am fully expecting it to come back and bite me in their teenage years don’t you worry.

[–]quiltsohard 4 points5 points  (1 child)

My theory is you get sleepers or eaters. I had sleepers, thank god, but there were days I was legit worried my kids would starve. They were always in the bottom 30% on weight.

[–]saint2388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So crazy how different they all are. My son will eat anything we put in front of him, I’d never even considered it’d be difficult to feed (solids) a baby. He just watches us eat and opens his mouth wanting food so we pop it in.

[–]elhombreloco90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are roughly the same. Our 3 year old was sleeping, like, 11-12 hours uninterrupted by 10 months. Our nearly 1 year old isn't quite there yet, though. She still sleeps well enough for me to game or read or watch something, though.

EDIT: minor spelling error and info addition.

[–]MoistToweletteLover 10 points11 points  (20 children)

This worries me. I’m going to be a dad in October and gaming has always been a little escape for me my whole life

[–]LuciferLucii 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Something some parents I know do, they have nights. Like say Friday night is your night to stay up later and play some games. And your wife gets up with the kids Saturday, Saturday is the night your wife can stay up and do things they wanna do, and Sunday you get up with kids. Just work out times with your partner to make sure you both are getting time to do the things you guys enjoy.

[–]APKID716 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what my wife and I do, we split the responsibilities on the weekend. Friday night is for the lads and Saturday night is for the ladies

[–]Askaris 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Don't be worried. As a gamer mum, I have to say, yes the first years are rough not only because you don't have much time for yourself anyway but also because screen time isn't really healthy for very young kids.

But they will grow so fast and before you know it you will have a reliably-trained gaming partner to supply the population of Crown Falls or just having a blast playing Mario Kart. My son is 5 now and reenacting the schnaps and goulash production chains of Anno 1800 with his toys.

Just support each other as parents, especially in the first year, and don't let the feeling of 'is that supposed to be my life from now on?!' (we have all been there!) fool you. You got this!

[–]MoistToweletteLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it won’t be so bad. I am actually very excited for a future couch co-op buddy!

[–]PipboyandLavaGirl 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You will find time, it just won’t be as much as before. However, the joys that a kid brings makes it 100% worth it. I was a fiend for Magic the Gathering and would play a lot (4-5 hours a day). I didn’t get to play for about the first 4 months and then I’m down to about once a week now. I’ve also found other hobbies I can do while my toddler’s awake and that’s opened a lot of new interests. Don’t be worried! It’s a fun time and embrace change and new ideas!

[–]CoupleSpecialist9895 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Every baby is different. I’m a new dad and my baby sleeps pretty consistently so I get to game 1-2 hours a night. Don’t worry just a tip though make sure mama is taken care of before you game and you help put baby to sleep it’ll make a huge difference…

[–]APKID716 5 points6 points  (0 children)

make sure mama is taken care of before you game and you help out baby to sleep

Please please please PLEASE do not ignore this advice. The last thing you want to do is assume your wife has it covered and start gaming. Post-partum can be a bitch and she’s gonna need all the help in the world when it starts getting busy and hectic

[–]ScaryTension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this advice.

[–]BoomJayKay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah you find time while you do some contact naps. That’s what I did in the daytime. In the early stages all they do is sleep lol. My husband did evening shift because I had to sleep late and wake early due to pumping so he gamed overnight. Found him PTFO on the couch with controller in hand and Miles Morales walking into the wall for god knows how many hours. Poor dude lol.

Just don’t neglect being a dad. Enjoy the snuggles. Be present. But you can definitely still sneak in gaming. It gets way more difficult as they get older and more alert / mobile imo 🤷🏻‍♀️.

[–]spoonman59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every baby is different and peoples priorities are different. You may not always have as much as you’d like, but you will be able to make time.

[–]neobeguine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got really into stardew valley when my youngest was born, in part because it was an actually good game you could play in 15-20 minute increments

[–]SpookyPixieRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my husband and I are gamers, we have multiple kids that are little gamers themselves. Becoming a parent doesn’t mean you have to stop gaming. We would game during naptimes, switch off at night, or while having the baby in a baby carrier and bouncing on a yoga ball because the baby was fussy 😆 All of our kids loved the baby carrier when they were teeny tiny.

[–]TalkWithYourWallet 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Have you considered the steam deck?

It's got a sleep and quick resume function

[–]jaydizzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually works as advertised. Interruption? Press power button, put it down and deal with your shit. Come pack, pick it up, power button and continue where you left of within a second. Its a game changer

[–]Mr_Professor_Chaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old School RuneScape on an iPad and then after awhile went back to PC gaming

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a stay at home mum I was too tired to stay up gaming

[–]BabySealOfDoom 5 points6 points  (2 children)

New dad here. I can’t.

[–]Sporkitized 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not how it worked for me, though the types of games I played switched. I used to play a lot of stuff like LoL and Counter-Strike, but transitioned to games that can be picked up and put down at a moment's notice without being a problem.

[–]Yzerman19_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah. You don’t really.

[–]stormbefalls 20 points21 points  (0 children)

gaming while they’re down for a nap feels so, so sweet though… it’s like yeah….. I earned this

[–]Hot-Rise9795 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Have you ever heard of the Steam Deck ?

[–]Pherllerp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

lol you forget he’s rich?

[–]PoorlyWordedName 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Steam deck baby!

[–]woowoobean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, $omething tells me Superman can manage it all

[–]ApocalypseNurse 2 points3 points  (2 children)

RIP Warhammer for the New Dad

[–]Phillip_Spidermen 1 point2 points  (1 child)

or an excuse to by more miniatures!

They're for the baby, that's why I had to buy the extra large versions.

[–]Diligent_Opinion4945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not like he has 9 - 5 job.

[–]thesunstarecontest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family. Sleep. Computer. Pick two.

[–]Mabus51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Steam Deck helps

[–]jmohnk 1565 points1566 points  (56 children)

That baby is doomed to be attractive.

[–]30another 296 points297 points  (4 children)

[–]DullBicycle7200 107 points108 points  (2 children)

The kid will manage.

[–]SG_665667 68 points69 points  (0 children)

True, but whenever I hear a celebrity couple is having a baby and the article features a side-by-side pic of the couple, my mind instantly goes to the early 2000s Conan O'Brien skit If They Mated, and I start laughing.

I hope Conan gave a generous raise to whatever staffer/writer must've randomly said, "Hey, I learned about this cool program called Photoshop in college; look what it can do to these celebrity pictures!" because that skit still holds up to this day.

[–]Integrity-in-Crisis 110 points111 points  (8 children)

When all the girls his age thirst over his dad.

[–]jackology 101 points102 points  (7 children)

When all his teachers looking forward to Parents Teachers Meeting.

"Hi Mr Cavill, just ringing to make sure you know it's fathers only for the parents evening later and we request you wear a fitted suit."

[–]jackology 29 points30 points  (5 children)

Imagine Cavill in yoga pants.

[–]Watching_You_Type 24 points25 points  (3 children)

I’m conflicted because I don’t know how to feel about being unable to unsee that mental image…

[–]jackology 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Half of you is salivating?

[–]Watching_You_Type 14 points15 points  (0 children)

….yes….salivating…👀

[–]Lechateau 55 points56 points  (20 children)

Recent research shows that attractive parents produce attractive daughters but rarely attractive sons.

source

[–]Due_Ring1435 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was going to say something similar......just that the genetic lottery can be cruel

[–]jackruby83 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kind of want to see examples of this phenomenon

[–]rufio313 23 points24 points  (6 children)

Seems like a pretty flawed study tbh, with an extremely small sample size.

[–]themehboat 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Right? They don't even define what "attractiveness" is.

[–]usagerp 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So many studies that get peddled on Reddit/online as if they demonstrate undeniable facts are actually incredibly flawed or have ridiculously small sample size. Kinda infuriating at times lol.

[–]rufio313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People like to push agendas and more importantly, be a contrarian. I truly believe most of these people use google to find articles that support whatever argument they want to make in that moment and then post them without even reading them.

[–]Soggy_Western7845 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Or maybe it’s easier for a woman to ‘make’ herself attractive? If you’re a guy your options are steroids and hair transplants. Pretty much it.

[–]LolaLazuliLapis 9 points10 points  (8 children)

Not really. Men can get plastic surgery and skin treatments as well. Light makeup would work too, but ofc straight men don't want to look gay to other men despite pretty boys being super popular.

[–]Wild-Word4967 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless they get all the ugly recessive genes.

[–]ZenythhtyneZ 57 points58 points  (1 child)

They’re making a sequel to Timothée Chalamet

[–]Sco0basTeVen 22 points23 points  (5 children)

I’m sure it’s life will be miserable.

[–]iCameToLearnSomeCode[🍰] 37 points38 points  (2 children)

There's a lot of benefits but I'd rather be the kid of an unknown rich person than a celebrity if I had the choice.

I was the kid of unknown poor people so I'll take wealthy celebrity parents if it's on the table in another life but celebrity comes with a fair amount of hassle.

[–]Lint_baby_uvulla 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I’d hold the dice if nepo baby was my roll too.

[–]iCameToLearnSomeCode[🍰] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If I'm going to criticize them it only seems fair that I should drive a mile in their Ferrari, right?

[–]thatdudejtru 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Kid gets to play miniatures, DND, and WoW with Superman whenever he wants. Luckyyyyyyy...

[–]TheRustyBugle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Then when they get older, warhammer

[–]Hugh_Jazz77 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I knew at least two people in school who’s parents looked like supermodels, but they themselves looked like a misshapen potato.

[–]moderndhaniya 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Hah! Nerd.

Good for him. 👍

[–]LiveBaby5021 216 points217 points  (3 children)

Before the baby is born, Cavill will place him in a rocket, and blast him off into space, to save his child from a doomed planet …

[–]Milefromdisco 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Nonono, the 4 great gods are gonna launch that baby into space and He will have to go on a Great Crusade across the stars to find it.

[–]ConnorChandler 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If he names that baby Horus Lupercal, then we’re talking

[–]Ljsurfer88 20 points21 points  (5 children)

Oh damn I remember going to her super sweet 16 birthday party in high school… always wondered what happened to her and now she’s having Superman’s baby.

[–]starryeyedgirll 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Was she nice?

[–]timediplomat 7 points8 points  (3 children)

She was featured on season 1 of MTV's My Super Sweet 16 in 2005. A description of the episode read: "At 15 years old, Natalie is now living in a $5 million house and cruising around town in her dad's Bentleys and Ferraris. What more could she want? How about being the most popular girl at school?"

[–]Lostinstudy 191 points192 points  (4 children)

Poor one out for my girls.

[–]DullBicycle7200 67 points68 points  (2 children)

They'll never know the feeling of being railroaded by Superman.

[–]pathfinderoursaviour 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Heard some cries from a Greek sorority house nearby me

[–]Empress-Rae 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That was me. And I will not apologize

[–]Marigwenn 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Really happy for them, it warms my heart that he gets to achieve his dream of a family ☺️

[–]margotmary 368 points369 points  (62 children)

I just can’t take her seriously since learning she was one of the spoiled brats on MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16.”

[–]Fizzy_Bubblech17 104 points105 points  (5 children)

No way are your serious?

[–]margotmary 109 points110 points  (4 children)

TMZ posted some clips from her episode.

[–]mixmasterbru 58 points59 points  (2 children)

Christ that thing is basically fully scripted lol. Absolutely none of the lines feel real, crazy people thought reality tv was real back then

[–]markrulesallnow 29 points30 points  (1 child)

People think reality TV is real now lol

[–]mixmasterbru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least they're better actors now lol

[–]_its_a_SWEATER_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He secured the bag.

[–]RandomUser4857 382 points383 points  (25 children)

Bro...we were all a mess at 16.

You can't take her seriously because of her behavior at 16? And she's like what now, 35?

Crazy.

[–]ConsistentAsparagus 121 points122 points  (5 children)

I try to suppress everything I did and was before 18/20.

[–]euroflower 29 points30 points  (3 children)

You must’ve caught on quicker than me.

[–]Glissandra1982 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Yeah I was mid-20s at least - more like late-20s

[–]the_ThreeEyedRaven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I try to suppress everything I did and do, and might do the next moment.

[–]ConsistentAsparagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My now wife and then girlfriend changed my life. We’re 20 years together now.

[–]Xanthon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm just glad social media and camera phones weren't a thing during my teens.

[–]Lelle3 91 points92 points  (1 child)

I don’t think you should judge someone for what they did when they were 16 years old, obviously she comes from money but that doesn’t need to be a bad thing always.

[–]Significant_Lead7810 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the party was thrown because the dad was getting remarried or was newly married and was absent in her life previously.

Edit: So she had just moved in with the Dad.

[–]AchyBrakeyHeart 55 points56 points  (0 children)

How embarrassing

[–]strangeloop6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I went to HS with her and forgot about this. I totally went to that!

[–]BlackLodgeBrother 44 points45 points  (5 children)

Be glad Cavill is at least dating someone close-ish to his own age. Do you know how rare that for a-listers in Hollywood?

[–]Swampyfeet 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So rare that not even Henry Cavill is excluded!

[–]heavylamarr 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I was expecting her to have been born during Bush’s second term 😭

[–]bbmarvelluv 41 points42 points  (3 children)

So let’s not take you seriously for things you did as a teenager…

[–]rosessandrue 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She also did blackface for a bottled water ad in Africa (or something along those lines)

[–]TScottFitzgerald 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Ironically comments like these are why I can't take people on Reddit seriously.

What a bunch of blood sucking bored fiends that won't let you live anything down ever.

[–]tayroarsmash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well it’s a good thing no one is asking you to take her seriously then.

[–]stellar14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is hilarious I remember watching this episode!!

[–]DullBicycle7200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I often don't take spouses of celebrities in the first place, and I don't see why anyone else would unless they have accomplishments of their own that are worth admiring.

[–]pvrugger 181 points182 points  (14 children)

First? I am sorry, but that man needs to spread his genetics far and wide. Step up, ladies.

[–]DW-4 112 points113 points  (4 children)

I mean, did you see the pic with his 4 other brothers? Genetics might not be key, bro was just blessed from the heavens or whatever.

[–]sierra120 57 points58 points  (2 children)

His brothers were all above average but Clearly he was Adonis reincarnated.

[–]leese216 6 points7 points  (1 child)

He sucked all the good looks from them when he was born.

[–]Ok_Jury4833 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All his brothers are also very good looking. I don’t know why I got so bothered by your implication otherwise, but thought I should defend them for some reason. Very parasocial of me. So there. Take that.

[–]freakinbacon 36 points37 points  (3 children)

I get it, but being physically attractive doesn't necessarily mean you have good genes from a health perspective. Just saying.

[–]DullBicycle7200 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Careful, spreading his seed too much will mean that the entire planet could become inbred in a matter of a few generations.

[–]ironicfuture 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Third generation inbred Cavill creatures will still be more handsome than 90% of the population.

[–]One_Mad_Schnauzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making me snort audibly. All hail Kublai Cavill.

[–]CamisaMalva 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His genes are too perfect for that to happen.

[–]sapthur 16 points17 points  (3 children)

Better be the most ugly baby I've ever seen. There is no way someone gets THAT lucky with parents to give those genes. 😆 jokes

[–]sierra120 10 points11 points  (2 children)

[–]dc456 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I have three daughters and have had the misfortune of seeing myself in the mirror, so I take this as confirmation that my wife is extremely hot.

[–]been2thehi4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4 kids, three of them daughters, I take this info to mean my husband is super hot.

[–]KrakenGirlCAP 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She’s so lucky. Whewwww.

[–]EvenDranky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kids are the best excuse to spend most of Saturday at toy and comic book shops

[–]itsinmybloodScotland 20 points21 points  (2 children)

He was so handsome in the tudors.

[–]littlescreechyowl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite timeline for him. Stunning.

[–]TreeToTea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Noooooo my chances

[–]TheBatmanIRL 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Congratulations to them both. Will be a gaming PC up for sale soon I guess...

[–]Robbythedee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kid will probably be named sigmar

[–]MrGoober91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to a tiny Superman Witcher wreaking havoc on the general public in due time <3

[–]Other-Key-7826 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boooooooo (jealous) boooooooooo

[–]TheFumingatzor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

O boy....the collective sigh and groan of thousand of folks out there. Did you hear?

[–]Rebellus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Superboy is on the way !

[–]onlyusemefeets 4 points5 points  (2 children)

That child is going to be beauty epitomised

[–]sonicdemonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about him, but good for him! He seems like a genuine cool dude.

[–]2001ToyotaHilux 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]Diamondhands_Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NOOOOO IT SHOULDVE BEEN ME NOT HER

(Im a guy)

[–]IamMooz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt a great disturbance in the Force. It was as if a million women cried out, and then were suddenly silenced.

[–]Bland_Boring_Jessica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean he stopped gaming to make a baby?!

[–]Rowdy_Roddy96 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Imagine your dad being Superman and as cool as Henry Cavill?!

[–]MaddyKet 2 points3 points  (1 child)
