Raanan: McAdoo hatched a plan that would phase out Manning down the stretch of the season. He passed it by owners John Mara and Steve Tisch and general manager Jerry Reese. While there was some uncertainty about whether it was the right thing to do, McAdoo made the final call, according to a source.

Losing to the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving and being eliminated from playoff contention over the weekend got New York Giants coach Ben McAdoo thinking. Maybe it was time to take a look at his quarterbacks not named Eli Manning.

McAdoo hatched a plan that would phase out Manning down the stretch of the season. He passed it by owners John Mara and Steve Tisch and general manager Jerry Reese. While there was some uncertainty about whether it was the right thing to do, McAdoo made the final call, according to a source.

In the end, they called it a group decision.

“I spoke to Jerry, and I spoke to ownership, yes,” McAdoo said. “We’re on the same page.”

Steve T to the rescue? "sources said minority owner Steve Tisch has long been in support of a thorough review of the entire organization, including the head coach, and has been open to making changes beyond just the general manager position" (LaCanfora)

Steve Tisch: "It’s been a very frustrating season. At the end of the season John Mara & I are gonna get together & discuss the future. As partners we have to be very honest with each other about where we see this team going into the 2020 season.”

Maybe John Mara and Steve Tisch should excuse themselves from making football decisions. Since Wellington Mara's death (2005) and Ernie Arcossi's retirement (2006), the Giants have made AWFUL decisions. Jerry Reese, IMO, was EA's last hire. Say what you want, but Reese did more good than bad.

Here is a short list of (mostly) Mara's decisions:

  • "Firing" Tom Coughlin (he was not the problem!)

  • Hiring McAdoo

  • Benching of Eli

  • Hiring Dave Gettleman

  • Hiring Pat Shurmur

  • Speculative...but at this point, keeping Judge will limit the chances of landing a really good GM.

Additionally I think he's become really cheap. He won't change the turf, keeps it all internal because it's cheaper, and the medium Pepsi thing was ridiculous.

I never want to see the Giants organization without the Mara name attached...but the old man has to change his ways.

Speaking Tuesday, Giants co-owner Steve Tisch declined to provide a vote of confidence in coach Pat Shurmur or GM Dave Gettleman: “It’s been a very frustrating season. At the end of the season (fellow owner) John Mara and I are gonna get together and discuss the future.“
