The home of the Buffalo Bills on reddit. Circling the wagons since 2009.
With the photos coming out of her at practice with the team today, it reminded me of a story I want to share that really highlights who she is as a person.
Back in the really dark days of the Sabres, shortly after her and Terry had acquired the Bills as well, my mom’s old college friend was married to one of the assistant coaches for the Rochester Americans. Well the Sabres fired their head coach (Ted Nolan I believe) and the Amerks head coach was promoted to interim coach of the Sabres, making the husband of my moms friend the interim coach of the Amerks.
The Americans had a game that was held at Keybank Center (First Niagara at the time) and we were invited to the game. We got there and we met my mom’s friend up in the gold suite in the 200 level, it was the nicest experience me or anyone in my family had ever had. Free food, drinks, it was unbelievable to me as a 12 year old.
Shortly after we got there, Kim Pegula came into the suite and began talking to my mom’s friend about the suite and whether she was being treated well. My mom’s friend was nothing but gracious and introduced my mom to Kim. Anyways my mom is a yapper so she began talking about everything under the sun because she was so excited to meet the owner of the Bills and Sabres.
Kim talked with her for at least 30 minutes. I remember being so embarrassed that my mom was taking all of her time but she was the nicest lady you could imagine the whole time. Eventually she left and my mom could not stop talking about it, still to this day. She swore she was “friends with Kim Pegula”, which I always told her was ridiculous.
But that’s really how she made my mom feel. Like her friend. She was the richest, most powerful person we had ever met and my mom felt comfortable enough to be herself for a long period of time.
Kim is a truly remarkable woman and an excellent person down to the core, and she is one of the main people responsible for turning the Bills around.
Anyways I just wanted to share that seeing as she seems to be getting better, something that will definitely provide a boost top to bottom in the organization.
Go Bills. Forever
