So are we in the USA going to have to wait until after the election for new Novavax boosters (or any kind of COVID booster)? Is this like a gift we get if we vote for Kamala Harris?

Also it's really not great for the direction of this current surge that we're in that by mid-August we'll have 55% of American public school students back attending school, and by the end of the first week of September it's basically 100%, and as far as I can tell nobody will be boosted and we will probably still be in a surge throughout most of that, which even if currently declining may gain strength again as tens of millions of unmasked children stream into centralized mass institutional settings....

Hello, Mr. Ford, it seems I made a mistake mid May and took and XBB Novavax (it was over 6 months after pfizer but had 2 non-covid vaccines in between). I did not know a new version was coming so soon. How long should I wait to take a JN.1 Novavax to correct imprinting? Thank you so much.

Ive been looking everywhere in my state and even other states and can’t find it. I’m allergic to PEG and I need the vaccine for immigration purposes , i don’t know what to do or where to find it, I read on this subreddit that all the doses are expired since may but I also read some people getting the expired doses in June I don’t know can someone give me some guidance about the vaccine situation

Another school year is approaching and it’s nerve racking/ depressing not having any insight if we’ll have a non MRNA option.

My husband is having to return to his in-office job after being allowed to wfh since the beginning of the pandemic. He’s supposed to return the end of August, but we’re going to try our hardest to let him push it off until the new vaccines are out. He hasn’t had a covid vaccine for over 2 years (bad reaction to Pfizer), and we’ve never had covid, so he needs something. Is Novavax expected to be widely available in the US, or is it just going to depend on the state? And is the Sep 1 roll-out still the plan?

I got my first novavax on december 2023 AND my second novavax on february 2024 should i get a Booster now or wait for the new versión ? I only have those 2 covid vacaccines!

I am about six months after my last Novovax vaccine (it was my second in the series, two months after the first).

Wondering, does it make sense to get the vaccine based on the old variant (whichI understand are about to expire) or wait until the fall for the new formula?

Today, I signed a petition on Action Network telling Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to Demand the FDA and CDC immediately approve Moderna and Novavax's updated vaccines for an earlier release and I want to share it with you.

We are in unprecedented territory...

Normally, COVID vaccine updates would rollout in the fall, but as we are learning more about COVID, and how we can't treat it like the flu, vaccine manufacturers are rising to the occasion. Between advanced mutations that require shifts in memory response, an earlier cold and flu season, the Bridge Access Program ending in August, and schools being discovered as major vectors for infection... We can't wait for the fall to rollout updated vaccines. Both Moderna and Novavax have submitted to the FDA for immediate approval of their JN.1 updates that they have said can be delivered between mid-July and early August.

Moderna - "Manufacturing is underway and doses of Moderna's Spikevax 2024-2025 formula will be ready to ship as early as August, pending regulatory approval."

Novavax - "Novavax intends to have doses in the U.S. for distribution by mid-July. Upon FDA authorization and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation, Novavax is preparing to promptly deliver to U.S. customers."

Both updated vaccines need to be approved for release as fast as possible. The public needs access to updated vaccines before the school year starts. Earlier rollout means protecting kids and their families.

Earlier rollout means that vaccination with updated vaccines will be possible before school starts, which will reduce transmission for the entire population. Schools will remain a high-risk environment for transmission until proper clean air procedures are implemented, so we should shift our policy to release updated vaccines prior to the school year starting. This will help put parents at ease when they send their kids off to school. Cold and Flu season is starting earlier.

The “cold and flu season�, which now includes COVID, starts earlier than it did previously. With the jump from XBB to JN.1 being so significant, immune imprinting is an issue for anyone who is avoiding infection and trying to stay prepared for an unexpected exposure. This means they need a two shot series two months apart regardless of mRNA or protein based vaccine platform. An earlier rollout would allow people to reset their memory response in time for a winter surge or we run the risk of having an even worse surge than our previous winters. Our outdated memory response is a concern that must be addressed. There is a way to aim for variants we can’t see yet.

Should people choose Novavax to update their memory response, then it will also help them improve their reaction to new variants. An effect of Novavax’s adjuvant is that after multiple doses, it boosts existing antibodies to challenge new mutations. We can’t accurately predict which variants are coming next, so the Matrix-M adjuvant allows the JN.1 vaccine to respond better to future variants. This allows the JN.1 vaccine to create a response that will reach future variants we can’t see yet. An earlier release would allow access through the Bridge Access Program. The bridge program is ending in August and rolling out the updated vaccines in July-August would help make these vaccines more available to underserved communities who benefit the most from greater vaccine access The private market has made COVID vaccines unreachable for the uninsured and we need to do everything we can to maintain equitable access to these updated vaccines and future ones. We can't let access to insurance inhibit access to these lifesaving vaccines. The public needs both an mRNA and protein-based vaccine option.

The FDA has approved Novavax notoriously late over the last few seasons, but some people can not get mRNA so this has become an equity issue. These people are often immuncompromised and at the highest risk, their protection cannot be delayed.

Both of these vaccines should be approved on the same timeline so that both mRNA and protein-based vaccines can be available at the same time. Also, the CDC & FDA should make it easier for people to access two shots in a two month period.

Sign this petition to send a message to the FDA and CDC that the public wants the vaccine rollout to happen earlier and that you want want greater access to these vaccines.

I thought I read, probably on Xitter so not a terribly reliable source, that Novavax will update to KP.3 by mid July. Does anyone know if this is true?

I have read you are supposed to wait 6 months between mrna and Nova to avoid Ig4 (?) antibody formation. Which I have. But then I read or may have missunderstood this process is also disturbed by other vaccines? I had a tick encephalitis and tetanus/whooping cough shots inbetween. Will this be a problem and what to do now?

I saw some now closed posts on this from years ago, but looking now for a friend, (and possibly myself) who's going to Austria and Hungary on trip, both business and a little tourism, so very brief, only about 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, she's not going to be spending any time in Vienna, where I'm guessing would be the easiest and most likely place to have availabillity, at least in Austria. She will be in Budapesth for a few days, from what I can decipher with only English-language skills, it may not be available at all in Hungary right now. Does anybody else know differently?

As for Austria, the southern part close to Slovenia is where she'll be spending her time. Any leads on the current Novavax being available there (or for that matter anywhere in the country), and how a visiting tourist from the U.S. could possibly get it?

I know it’s anecdotal, but has anyone gotten long Covid AFTER receiving novavax? I have been living in fear and isolation, am now running out of savings, and need to return to work (will be working with the public). I’m just terrified of LC. I received two does of the updated novavax and had a pretty strong systemic reaction to the second dose (possibly expired or mishandled with the 8 hour discard time). Any feedback would be very appreciated.

I should add that I’m worried about LC from a Covid infection after having received novavax. Not LC from novavax itself.

So, I waited too long and the Novavax that Kaiser offered me 2 months ago is now gone. (Kaiser is a closed network HMO in California with it's own facilities, fyi)

They called me to tell me this today, and then another person called to suggest I try again in September. She said they may get more, and it may be a newer formulation?

Looks like Dr. Marks of the waffling FDA feels he is more intelligent than his vaccine advisory board (VRBPAC). He got his way over them, changing last week's FDA recommendation for a JN.1 vaccine to his preferred (and likely fading) KP.2 strain. Dr. M. sure seems to love the mRNA manufacturers! Hopefully Novavax will market its JN.1 vaccine in the USA, and we’ll get to compare its efficacy vs. the KP.2 targeting mRNA vaccines. For those of us who can't take the mRNA vaccines this is a mess.

A recent mentions that the CDC (and also researchers in Israel) have found "that the vaccines contributed to heart inflammation, especially in young men and boys"

Do we know if this is true of Novavax, or if it's only an mRNA vaccine phenomenon? Thanks!

I originally was mRna vaxed and boosted, but I got my first Novavax shot in Nov 2022. I tested positive for Covid the very next day (and no, I don't think that's related), and I was bed-ridden from that infection for about two months, so I never got the second shot of that series. I received my next Novavax dose in Nov 2023, and that was my last. Should I be trying to get another dose anytime soon or should I wait until there's an update to the vaccine?

like it says, i just started a new job and during orientation everyone in the break room was talking about how they had a fever last week or how they always come to work sick and will only go home if they are physically unable to work (plus i only get a single sick day in the first 6 months :/) so i was thinking abt updating my boosters. i know their working on a dose for the jn1? varient and it will be out for fall but would i be able to/should i get a moderna or pfizer in the mean time or would it be better to just wait?

Son is in London now. Leaving for South Africa in late August for 1.5 years. He last had mRNA 6 months ago. South Africa is not doing covid vaccines now and idk when they might resume. Should son get one Novavax XBB in London now? I know it’s not ideal and normally would wait for JN1, but is one Novavax XBB better than not getting anything before he leaves?

All spring I kept reminding my 70-something mom to get a Novavax booster but she only attempted to after it was too late. Her last booster was in the fall (also Novavax, but mostly mRNA before). She will be having surgery in a hospital in 6 weeks. It is supposed to be outpatient but is pretty major surgery and will be there most of the day. I am concerned about her being in a predominantly-maskless precautionless hospital and likely not able to wear her own mask during surgery or control her mask-wearing immediately after and want her to have all the immune support possible. Should she bother getting a different booster? If so, does anyone know if the current Pfizer or Moderna are showing better results than the other? Would a short road trip to Canada, if she were up for it, to get Novavax be worth it? If it wasn’t for the surgery, I would let it go until the fall.
