Jabari Bird

[Smith] The pick Boston is getting for Jabari Bird is a "fake" pick. It will be top-55 protected and will likely never convey to Boston. Atlanta is going to waive Jabari Bird, who continues to face legal issues from an alleged domestic violence issue over the summer.

What is the likelihood of Boston waiving Abdul Nader to sign Jabari Bird?

I know they play different positions, but we already have plenty of guys at the wing. Where we're actually short is the guard spot.

Not only that, and to me this seems obvious, but Jabari Bird is waaaay, way better than Nader. Like, it's day and friggen night.

I don't think Nader will even make it into the playoff rotation, so what do we have to lose other than one year of Bird's contract?

Jabari Bird looks pretty good.

Some may call this is a lukewarm take, others will say it's a stop on the summer league hype train, but after seeing him play three games in Las Vegas - I'm already reasonably convinced that Jabari Bird belongs on an NBA roster.

He's leading our team in points by a large margin with 18 per game on 58% from the field (22/38 FG, 3/4 3PT). Whether you go by the eye test or the box scores, it's pretty obvious that he's been our best player so far. He's an elite athlete with great size for a shooting guard at 6'6. He knows how to read set defenses and attack out of the half court, moves instinctually without the ball to find cutting lanes, and makes hall of fame acrobat badge layups through contact. While we haven't seen much of his jumper, he's always been a shooting specialist throughout his 4 years at Cal and was a career 37% 3pt shooter. Besides, he hasn't really needed to shoot much since he's been getting to the rim at will.

He plays with intensity on both ends and seems to be a capable perimeter defender. One thing I learned today is that had by far the highest net rating on the Maine Redclaws last season, along with a better defensive rating than Kadeem Allen.

Seeing as he's a restricted free agent, do we think another team will offer him a contract? If he stays in Boston, will there be a place for him in the rotation?
