yea i see your comparison, but historically the successful white artists in a black dominated medium have tried to develop their own style and art instead of copy the styles of others, or if they do copy, they do so in a respectful and original way.

i'd argue that eminem and macklemore aren't trying to fit in with black culture, they make music that takes the form of rap and whoever likes it, likes it.

i think with iggy, she's trying to ride the nicki minaj/trap/female rapper train and she's a total outsider as far as appearances and culture and upbringing go, and she's trying too hard to fit into black culture to make up for that, and sacrificing her individuality to try doing that. its probably motivated entirely by money though so its not a surprise if execs told her "you need to act X and Y way otherwise we will cut you off"

but i think it just makes people uncomfortable rather than accept her, because she racially/culturally alienates both white audiences and black audiences by striving to be part of both instead of picking one or none, and respecting all audiences equally.

to clarify, IMO eminem didn't say "hey listen to my music because i'm trying to be black" he said "listen to it because its good and new and interesting, and I just happen to be white which may make it more interesting to some".

whereas IMO iggy is indicating something like "hey listen to my music because i'm like you"

and this isn't even going into lyrics and what messages these artists are trying to deliver. Eminem is more from the struggle/problem era of rap, whereas iggy is from the popular-money era of rap.

its the classic dilemma where you wait to pick a winning side, but through the action of waiting, in the end you end up on nobody's side and lose.
