Did you by chance watch the Nikkie Tutorials + Crystal Methyd collab? They did it via video chat and it was great! Didn't take away from the video at all imo, there's so many cool video ideas you can do while still being responsible. I mean you could do a collab with anyone on earth pretty much. Makes me think people are either really lazy or just fucking stupid when they choose not to care at all

    People have had to attend their parent’s, brother’s, sister’s, child’s, funerals and graduations, etc over a screen and a camera but your tiktok video is more important, right?

    edit to add: I do not care if they’ve been tested recently or not, either. you can get tested on day 1 and get infected on day 2. especially w people like Jc i don’t trust him to get tested and then isolate until he gets the results back.

    Thank you! The people saying 'well we got tested' - was it the second before you stepped in that person's door? Because if not, you could have been infected in the uber on the way over, at the Starbucks drive-thru, etc. I saw a tiktoker use this excuse for why she travelled from New Jersey to California as if there weren't 1 million ways she could have gotten infected on the trip there. I feel insane sometimes just being rational hahah

    Yep! It’s also incredibly privileged to just be able to go get tested whenever you want. I had to wait 3 days for a test recently and guess where my ass stayed during that time? At home! And guess where I stayed the 2 days while waiting for results? At home!

    Also idk how it is in Cali, but here we’re being told anywhere from 3-12 days for results. That’s nearly 2 weeks to be infected after testing, even if you end up getting a clear.

    I’m in Cali and rapid testing is definitely reserved for the wealthy. My boss paid for one (because he cares for his elderly parents) and they were $250. Luckily I don’t think we have the lag we once did in testing and awaiting results.

    I don’t believe so this is just a better test that can tell you right away. I think you just have to pay for rapid tests and antibody tests.

    Just want to add this here real quick to anyone considering; that while it is “better” in terms of a time frame, an antibody test will overall be less accurate in determining active infection than a PCR based test (which can take longer).

    Antibody testing (also referred to as serology testing) will essentially show if you have antibodies to the virus (indicating your immune system is currently fighting or has fought it) whereas a PCR based test will show an active infection as it measures the amount of the virus.

    A PCR test will also be able to pick up an infection earlier than antibody testing as it measures the amount of virus as compared to the body’s response.

    Oh yes I totally agree. From my understanding in California at least it’s a test you pay for not provided to you for free. They were doing them in my building a couple months ago and it upset me because I didn’t want compromised people to have a false sense of security.

    My son’s employer tested positive and rather than helping cover his employees tests he left it up to the employee as to whether or not they wanted to get tested. My husband’s insurance covered a portion of the test, not the full test and my son had to wait about a week for the results. He pretty well had to quarantine in his room and bathroom since I’m currently pregnant and we couldn’t take a chance of his potentially spreading the virus. Luckily, he tested negative, but it was super scary and completely ridiculous that the employer did not cover the expense.

    I get that this is frustrating, and lots of celebrities are not being very good role models right now. But, please please please, use some of the energy you’re devoting to cancelling youtubers and recognize that this is the government’s fault.

    We, as Americans, have been failed tremendously by our leadership. For every person that sees James Charles collab with his friends or whoever on YouTube, there’s a hundred more who have no choice but to go to work even if they’re sick because there’s been no rent relief or stimulus since March.

    Influencers should be held accountable for wrongdoing, but don’t forget that they’re only in the wrong because our federal, state, and local government has abandoned us to the plague. It’s like the colleges blaming their students for outbreaks, these influencers should never have been in this position in the first place.

    You are right about the government epically failing at dealing with this pandemic, however that doesn't absolve anyone who isn't taking personal responsibility seriously. In fact, even with adequate official response, the authorities really can't fight an outbreak without the population strictly adhering to mandates and regulations. If people decide that having fun is more important than keeping themselves and others safe, no public policy is going to be effective.

    But it doesn’t in reality matter what James Charles does, because most of the population has to go to work and expose others regardless. Schools are open, restaurants are open, and rent is due. They’re trying to distract us by getting us to blame each other while simultaneously maintaining an environment that forces exposure.

    It does matter. The severity of the epidemic is the sum of individual decisions. Having to go to work doesn't necessarily mean infection if everyone involved is following precautionary measures. It's not an "all or nothing" situation, where if some people are exposed then everyone can just purposely take risks.

    Plus, I don't know where you live, but where I am restaurants and schools are closed. I work in retail and I have been on unemployment since March. I went back to work for a couple of weeks in June but the state had to shut us down again because the infection rate was on the rise. Not because of people who had to go to work like me. Because of people who were partying in the city parks, having private gatherings with friends and family, and celebrating Memorial day like nothing was happening.
