[–]Bezit 39 points40 points  (0 children)

[–]SunsBorisTheBlade04 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Eh Suns fans wouldn’t have minded. Once you lose to the Adelaide 36ers, losing to an nba team doesn’t feel so bad.

[–]Lakersmessydoughut 4653 points4654 points  (173 children)

Russ off the bench was a great move. We also shot 43% from 3.

[–]LakersJayveesac 4251 points4252 points  (106 children)

Why don't they just shoot 43% from three every game?

[–]FuckingMarks 1651 points1652 points  (92 children)

I swear to God, if Ham has somehow figured something out with Westbrook off the bench, I'm buying Pelinka his next 8-ball.

[–]ThunderPrOKCedure 1087 points1088 points  (68 children)

He's figured something out with lineups that led to this 43%.

Lebron took a rest and Ham put Russ, Reaves, Walker, AD and Ryan out there. Russ was able to create great shot opportunities for all of those guys.

[–]LakersKTFlaSh96 1313 points1314 points  (57 children)

who knew letting russ actually do what he's good at (dribble penetration) and space him with shooters was a good idea?

[–]atierney14 698 points699 points  (4 children)

Next thing you know, we’ll find out something weird like Lebron + shooters is a good idea.

[–][WAS] Chris Paulthebreakfastbuffet 83 points84 points  (2 children)

ridiculous, that would never work. what do you think LeBron is, an elite playmaker?

[–]ThunderPrOKCedure 665 points666 points  (39 children)

I'll tell you who didn't know.

Vogel.

Some of the ways Russ attacked tonight reminded me of his Houston days where he had so much spacing to drive and kick. That is a deadly weapon for any offense to have and easily his greatest strength.

[–]atierney14 449 points450 points  (23 children)

People don’t talk about it much, but Russ post Capela trade, pre-pandemic was incredible, possibly looked the best in his whole career.

[–]ThunderPrOKCedure 223 points224 points  (12 children)

Yeah, I believe that Ham has looked at that tape and figured out that this lineup can be that for Russ and his drive/kick game

[–]atierney14 193 points194 points  (11 children)

I think Russ would be hated 88% less if they just figured out what fans figured out right away, he and Lebron have the same play style, but Lebron is both a shooter and better at driving and kicking. He’s not worth 47 m, but he doesn’t have to be a net negative if used properly. He could literally be that back up guard that they’ve been looking for since 2019.

[–]sbenfsonw 61 points62 points  (1 child)

Having Westbrook off the bench is a massive change. I feel like Vogel wanted to but couldn’t. He’d sometimes yank Westbrook at the end of games but could never not start him. It had to go that poorly last year for Ham to be able to this year

[–][LAL] Lamar OdomCD338 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I dont think Vogel had the authority to bench russ. There were rumors that he didn't want to play DeAndre Jordan minutes but had to. He couldn't even pick his own assistants. They had Vogel on the shortest of leashes and this was after winning a championship.

[–][LAL] Kobe Bryantrferg3 120 points121 points  (3 children)

We looked immaculate with that lineup. Hell we arguably looked better with Ad & Russ than Bron and AD until the 4th

[–]ThunderPrOKCedure 81 points82 points  (0 children)

That lineup allows Russ to be at his best. They'll still close games with Russ, LeBron, AD, Reaves and Walker but that lineup looked great on both ends.

[–]Lakers__-o0O0o-__ 16 points17 points  (3 children)

also, the 2-man game when any 2 are on the court together is way better than the clog ball mess that happens when you stick Russ in there with the other two

[–]RaptorsBe_conscious 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Pelinka should be fired already. In fact bring magic Johnson to personally give him the bad news

[–]LakersVindicare605 86 points87 points  (8 children)

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but it's been painfully obvious since midway through last season that if the team was healthy Russ was more useful coming off of the bench. The only caveat was that A: he didn't want to and B: the team wasn't healthy so he was starting.

Darvin Ham is only enacting what should have already been happening.

That said. The line ups changing doesn't explain our better shooting. We've had no shortage of open looks at the basket from 3 all season, just no one has been able to hit any of them. Remains to be seen if this game is just an aberration in our shooting percentages or the start of a new trend.

[–]ClippersVerifiedPrick 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Learn this one simple trick that coaches DON'T want you to know!

[–]durezzz 260 points261 points  (27 children)

Yeah you knew those putrid numbers would average out.

Lakers are probably better than their record.

[–][LAL] Kobe Bryantrferg3 123 points124 points  (8 children)

We are better than the record, we havnt looked like absolute dog shit excluding like 3 quarters this year. Our defense is somehow amazing. It’s actually good enough to keep us in games enough to where (like tonight) if we shoot 35%+ from three we can win any game we play. Playing Damien Jones legitimate minutes is killing is though, hopefully T Bryant can get healthy and take his minutes.

[–]LakersJilJungJukk 1751 points1752 points  (26 children)

LeBron did an excellent job fronting Jokic down the stretch there, that was satisfying to watch.

[–]Heatlopea182 304 points305 points  (4 children)

Reminds me of the first time I saw him fronting Pau Gasol when he was with the Heat.

That was when I realized just how good he could be on the defensive end.

[–]LakersDANNYBOYLOVER 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Not really effective until the game slows down and things clog up a little bit. Too easy to beat with the skilled guys on the perimeter nowadays

And also tough when you don’t have a generational physical talent

[–]wembanyama_ 315 points316 points  (1 child)

Goat shit

[–]Cavalierscombat101 111 points112 points  (0 children)

ppl dont realize how fucking ridiculous that is, 2 decades of ball and hes still competing with the best

[–][deleted] 115 points116 points  (11 children)

Jokic had plenty of chances all game to attack with either LeBron or AD on the bench but he played super passive

Idk wtf he's doing this year but it's a big step back from the player he was last year and in 20/21

[–]LakersNothingtoseeheremmk 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think he’s trying to get Murray and MPJ involved but he ends up being too passive when he has good looks

[–]NBABigBoyFroggy 65 points66 points  (3 children)

he keeps chucking up threes that are actually way off. like airballing or hitting the backboard type ones

[–][SAS] Malik RoseTA_Account_12 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Even before the Murray and the mpj injuries he was more content to play make than score. I think he’s just trying to get these guys settled in and overdoing it a bit.

[–]TimberwolvesPlants_R_Cool 37 points38 points  (1 child)

He did it really well against KAT too.

[–]staffdaddy_9 40 points41 points  (5 children)

Had a rough game but closed it down the stretch. When guys are hitting shots his slow the pace and dominate the ball creating good looks and not giving up transition opportunities is still really effective.

[–]Lakersfrozteh 85 points86 points  (3 children)

It's hilarious. Everyone here knows LeBron had a "rough" game including myself. Still ends with 26/8/6 on 10/22 shooting.

[–][LAL] Kobe BryantDaHagerBomb 282 points283 points  (4 children)

The Los Angeles Lakers will go as far as Austin Reaves wants to take them

Not often Jokic gets a double double and a neutral +/-

[–]Warriorschief_mr 1044 points1045 points  (30 children)

I originally wanted to see the Nuggets win just for the memes but seeing Westbrook pop off with 18/8/8 and look so happy with himself was nice lol, he’s finally getting some love from the fans :))

Highest +/- on his team with +18!

[–]ThunderLearningle 595 points596 points  (14 children)

Idk there was a feeling in the arena, the fans were cheering when he came back in the 4th. Just good fucking vibes for once.

[–]Warriorschief_mr 226 points227 points  (5 children)

For real, at the end of the day I just wanna see good basketball and good vibes

[–]Warriorsapplene 87 points88 points  (9 children)

[–]Warriorschief_mr 63 points64 points  (8 children)

Bro seriously two straight losses to what we thought were lottery teams 😭

And then the Clippers being Clippers lol

[–]Warriorsapplene 45 points46 points  (7 children)

Fucking defense man 😢, losing GP2, OPJ, and Mike Brown hurts like a bitch

[–]Lakersjustsomeguy5 152 points153 points  (1 child)

When he got subbed in during the 4th, the whole arena erupted in cheers. I hope it does wonders for him mentally. The truth is that the Lakers need Westbrook, they need him a lot actually. If they stick to this game plan of just competing and staying aggressive as a team, you never know. They could fuck around and see what it's like to win 2 games.

[–]NBAForoaKlanD 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Fr. was beautiful to see.

[–]LakersMOODALI 42 points43 points  (0 children)

[–][ATL] Dominique WilkinsCounterInsanity 468 points469 points  (13 children)

Lonnie Walker, Austin Reaves, and Matt Ryan had a really wonderful moment at the end of the 3rd quarter after Lonnie missed the alley-oop. And it was at that moment that I realized I wanted the Lakers to win this game.

[–]LakersHighlyBaked0 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Russ hyping the crowd off cam while that happened too :)

[–]LakersWakiLover 743 points744 points  (11 children)

This is it. This is the game we turn it all around.

The Westbrook Wiggle wills us to the title.

77-5

Lakers vs Nets finals. Nets made a miracle run after they gave Kyrie a fake twitter and KD handed him one of his burners. Kyrie wears a blindfold and plays using only his 3rd eye.

Westbrook lobs it to James to dunk over KD in Game 7. WB is air guitaring as Ben Simmons is crying. AD gets wheeled out in his wheelchair and stroller to help hoist the trophy.

[–]Raptorsasapshrank 243 points244 points  (4 children)

[–][NBA] Lebron Jamespinkshoesarecool 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I remember watching that and just couldn’t believe it

[–]ThunderLearningle 156 points157 points  (5 children)

Lakers trade for Russel Westbrook so Lebron can rest in the regular season.

Lakers start Russ and play him constantly with Lebron, which also forces Lebron to play the close to the most minutes in the league, Lebron is constantly gassed in the fourth.

Lakers bench Russ, let Russ run the show in the end of the third and beginning of the 4th, allow Lebron to rest, Lebron finishes the game fantastically.

Why did it take a year to make this decision?

[–][LAL] Alex Carusojacko1998 147 points148 points  (5 children)

[–]Sunshumandignitybloc 110 points111 points  (3 children)

I'm legit happy you won because I'm sick of seeing 80 posts a day about how you're the harbingers of basketball apocalypse.

[–][LAL] Alex Carusojacko1998 44 points45 points  (1 child)

Hey thanks man. Yeah it’s been pretty rough trying to have genuine basketball chat on the internet recently. There’s lots of things to like about this Lakers team, just as there is plenty to dislike.

[–]Sunshumandignitybloc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Was good to see Westbrook actually enjoy playing the game again. There's no denying that he's been awful, but he's not the only reason you guys have been melting down and he's still a former MVP and all time leader in triple doubles. I hope AD can keep himself healthy for a change.

[–]NBAYergason 688 points689 points  (19 children)

the Nuggets atleast stopped the bleeding. For that, I am grateful

[–]LakersHighlyBaked0 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Keep talking about my squad, our personnel ages, the way he plays, he stays injured, we’re past our time in this league, etc etc etc. Do me one favor PLEASE!!!! And I mean PLEASE!!! Keep that same narrative ENERGY when it begins! That’s all I ask

[–]LakersHeyyyItsCory 113 points114 points  (1 child)

1-81!

[–][LAL] Kobe Bryantmmdrew17 63 points64 points  (0 children)

0-82 is off the menu!

[–]Lakersbillsfan13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Tacos!!!

Legitimately I’m happy for Westbrook. Idk why people cheer on a downfall of someone, I guess for the drama of it. But if you like good basketball more than storylines Westbrook having a good game is awesome

[–]SpursGGezpzMuppy 49 points50 points  (3 children)

Bestbrook might have been great this game but LONNIE WALKER IV!!! is what won Lakers the game. On fire in the third to make that run.

Friendly reminder this is the talent we have hidden, all enquires should be directed to Pop but please come prepared with draft picks as we have a queue forming.

I'll never forgive the Denver Nuggets for this.

[–]Charlotte BobcatsAmino0822 103 points104 points  (1 child)

[–]LakersVencrest 55 points56 points  (7 children)

LAKERS SHOOT 43% FROM THREE. REGRESSION TO THE MEAN BABY

[–]CelticsStillEmbarrassed00 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nuggets really griefed the rest of the league.

[–]NBAKJagz33 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nuggets ruined the night for Lakers haters. Legacy points deducted

[–]shanmustafa 67 points68 points  (7 children)

should be 2-4, and possibly 3-3

the defense is legit, they’re playing their asses off on that end

[–]Nuggetssiegeoftyre 35 points36 points  (1 child)

they may be a bad shooting team, but they are obviously not as bad as the first 5 games would suggest.

[–]LakersSkorua 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every game except the first, they were in it till the end

[–]76ersiamMaus_fr0m_Jupiter 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Nuggets what happenuhhhh

[–][LAL] Sasha Vujacicmanay824 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Say what you will, the lakers played a great game. They finally found rotations that work, AD was playing like AD of old, and the lakers finally got shots to fall.

Russ looked great too, staggering the minutes actually does look effective. Gotta keep this going!

[–]LakersExtlis 22 points23 points  (3 children)

I want to celebrate but celebrating 1-5 as a Laker fan feels wrong.
