Reading Group for Women in Translation Month Reading Group for Women in Translation Month

Hi. I want to make a small reading group for August which is Women in Translation Month. I was thinking that we would have our first meeting around the 17th by which we would have all read/or are still reading a translated work by a female author. We will introduce ourselves and talk about the book we've read/currently reading and then choose a work that we will all read together. We will then meet again at the end of the month to discuss the book.

If you're interested, please DM me with your email and I'll send a message with some questions so that we can figure out logistics.

Human with Severe Chronic Illness looking for potential donor Human with Severe Chronic Illness looking for potential donor

tldr: 32(f) with severe chronic illness looking for a fecal transplant donor to save my life; I would compensate you if you fit the criteria/are healthy; I'm only asking here because I'm afraid I'm going to die without it. All it requires would be providing a stool sample - I know its gross, but if you read the research on the gut microbiome and it's connection to every aspect of health, it's fascinating; and is the only thing that would save my life.

Edit: I've had bad experience using male donors in the past and would prefer to use a woman if possible. Bonus points if you eat a vegan/fiber heavy diet because fiber = best way to grow good gut bacteria.

Long Version: I don't know if posting about something like this is allowed here, but out of complete desperation and being afraid that I'm going to die, I thought I would try and ask. I have a severe medical condition called mast cell activation syndrome, which causes me to have an autoimmune reaction every time I come into contact with things that should be benign. Usually it is things like chemicals or strong smells, but after undergoing a major surgery in January for an ileostomy, which led to losing 70% of my microbiome (normally located in your large intestine), I became a lot more susceptible to the side effect of most medications, which is that they change the diversity of your gut bacteria. As a person who already had gut microbiome dybiosis, who then lost 70% of their gut bacteria, and then tried 6 different medications for other conditions that all depleted my bacteria even more, and worsened my mast cell disease (which developed due to gut dysbiosis), I am not at a point where I cannot even drink water or eat any of my safe foods, without my body reacting and being in agonizing pain.

Fecal transplants are the only thing that have saved my life in the past when I've had to go on antibiotics that killed my gut bacteria. Fecal transplants aren't FDA approved yet in the US, but there is a tremendous body of research highlighting the connection between the gut microbiome and everything from mental illness to health conditions to weight to metabolism to acne. The reason it's not FDA approved is because, according to the research, and my own trial and error, you get whatever your donor has - mental illness, obesity, acne, health conditions, etc - and it's difficult to find someone who is thin, eats healthy, doesn't have any chronic disease, doesn't have severe acne, and doesn't have severe mental illness (I've used people with anxiety and depression and been okay though I do experience an increase in those symptoms when taking pills).

I have scoured my social media and the friends of friends and everyone I might know or have a connection with, to try to find a new donor. My current donor just developed a severe infection that caused her to go on very strong antibiotics, so using her would be counterintuitive/cause more damage. I am truly afraid I'm going to die if I have to continue to choose between eating food/drinking and agonizing pain. My doctors are all aware that I use fecal transplant to manage my condition - they just can't be a part of the process because it's not legal/FDA approved.

I know this might be met with scrutiny and judgement, and I understand and respect that. Again, only asking out of complete terror and desperation and fear that I will die, because no medications for this condition have worked for me and I have exhausted literally every treatment option.

Are you thinking of joining the Junior League of Los Angeles? Are you thinking of joining the Junior League of Los Angeles?

I write this post to the many women in Los Angeles who are considering joining the Junior League. This organization is going to sell you a utopian dream. You'll go to a recruitment session, the ladies can be very warm and friendly and you'll feel inspired to join. However, don't just talk to the recruitment team. Of course they'll say good things about Junior League.

Be sure and ask about the anonymous email and how women of color are treated in JLLA. The email alleged wrongdoing by a large population of leaders in JLLA. The investigation was a complete and total sham. The investigation was carried out by members of the league/friends of the women accused of wrongdoing. In fact, they spent more time worrying about the origins of the email vs. whether or not the claims were true. The goal of the investigation was not to discover truth but to clear the names of the members of leaders involved. They want to turn a blind eye to the entire situation. You'll never see anything like blatant racism, it's a special brand of liberal racism where they will smile in your face and then make comments or micro aggressions and then say the famous "but I have v black friends/family". Black women of JLLA bear the brunt of the racism and micro aggressions simply because they tend to be very ambitious and that does not resonate well with the league's top leadership. But other races are not exempt

JLLA does a lot of good work in the community. However, they are extremely rotten on the inside. There are other organizations you can join where you won't feel like you're constantly fighting high school bullies and trying to figure out which table to sit at during lunch.

Selling a Ticket to See Geese at El Rey Theatre - 9/20/2024 Selling a Ticket to See Geese at El Rey Theatre - 9/20/2024

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a ticket to see Geese at the El Rey Theatre on September 20, 2024, at 8:00 PM, and I’m selling it for $35.

Geese is one of the hottest indie rock bands right now. Their shows are wild – think smoldering guitar riffs, high energy, and unpredictable fun. They even got the crowd moshing at a Brooklyn club despite a “No Moshing” sign! Their live performances are a blast, full of raw intensity and unexpected twists.

Catch them at the El Rey Theatre before they hit the big arenas. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this! I'm so bummed I have to sell this ticket...I did't plan things well and i'm going to be out of this country at this time :(

Message me if you’re interested.

Thanks!

Seeking bookish and art gallery/museum friends! Seeking bookish and art gallery/museum friends!

36F, near DTLA (but okay driving some distance) looking for new friends who love hitting up bookstores, zine shops, art fairs, zine/bookfairs, art galleries and museums, etc. Im trying to get back into reading and checking out galleries, so if you’re still new to it that’s totally okay! I also need a refresher in how to experience and explore art galleries.

Update: Wow! It’s only been overnight since I posted this but im glad this is gaining traction. I’ll see what’s happening out there and post some times I know ill be available. Even if we all don’t get to go, I hope it encourages you to go out on your own to see art or check out bookstores. ☺️
