Perfect example of the 1st rule of Minecraft

[–]general_shitpostin 1169 points1170 points  (7 children)

Always dig strait down?

[–]Unisaur64 790 points791 points  (6 children)

Dig straight down for diamonds, dig straight down again for lava.

Always pre-generate and test the seed before going on stream so you can create great viral videos?

Also the fact that he instantly darts towards the diamonds instead of, like, assessing his situation for more than half of a second

    [–]Severe-Flower2344 34 points35 points  (5 children)

    Assessing

English is confusing, I know. I make similar mistake all the time too. lol

    [–]Vertex138 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Ahh you're right, my phone autocorrected me 💀

    [–]Severe-Flower2344 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That gets me all the time too. lol

    [–]Severe-Flower2344 19 points20 points  (0 children)

AND also the fact that despite having a water bucket, he did not grab the water bucket to save himself. As if he knew he would be saved by miraculously placed water.

    [–]futurenotgiven 88 points89 points  (2 children)

yea the first one i would’ve bought maybe, but two in a row and doing the exact mistake twice? dude

    [–]stilljustacatinacage 90 points91 points  (1 child)

Plus everyone knows the genuine "I dug straight down" story never has a water landing.

    [–]BadSmash4 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have never dug straight down aside from like my first couple of days playing, BUT I have had a couple of really wild falls and accidents that WERE miraculously saved by water.

Always bring a water bucket or two!

    [–]SlavRoach 45 points46 points  (2 children)

there are workarounds tho, u can dig straight down but stand in between two blocks and dig only one side at a time, done

    [–]kilertree 16 points17 points  (2 children)

    Diamonds are near Lava

    [–]Bugamashoo 7 points8 points  (1 child)

That's actually a myth! Unless they changed it recently

    [–]ShwiftyShmeckles 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Highest spawn for diamonds is -59 (right above bedrock.) Lava is also pretty common at that level but diamonds aren't anymore likely to spawn near the lava as they are to anywhere else on -59.

    [–]wtmrFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially since the caves update. Drops are much more punishing now than they ever have been because many cave systems are stacked. Sometimes they only have one or two blocks between a huge drop into the next layer.

      [–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I once did that with obsidian that was covered by water. I thought that water will protect me. It did protect me from swimming out of the lava once I got sealed in it. Only survived because I was right under my base that had all the beacons.

      [–]Fyebil 566 points567 points  (36 children)

... why is there cobbled deepslate beside the diamonds, a block that cannot generate naturally?

To the original person who made this video (not the OP of this posts, pretty sure), if you want to fake a video, then at least do it right smh

      [–]Fyebil 190 points191 points  (12 children)

Also, how did they get the raw iron crafting toast thing when they have iron tools already? I don't think a village is THAT rewarding

      [–]Ranting_Gamer 90 points91 points  (2 children)

Iron golem. He could have got 3 iron. Or two, with one in the blacksmith chest. It's still probably staged, but the pick could be legit

      [–]Solcaer 15 points16 points  (1 child)

The cobbled deepslate is still not possible unless he found the cave, found the diamonds, placed cobbled deepslate next to them and then immediately left.

      [–]Ranting_Gamer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know that the rest is impossible, and the pick was probably faked, but I'm saying that the pickaxe is physically possible

      [–]warmechanic 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Blacksmith chests at villages can give iron and iron pickaxe.

      [–]Hatefiend 1 point2 points  (1 child)

He has full iron armor on. Look at his armor value.

      [–]warmechanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not contesting that this is fake. I'm simply pointing out that you can get all your tools (and armor) without mining.

      [–]TwoDogsInATrenchcoat 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Lol for my second piece of evidence, I submit everything else that happened in the video.

      [–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Even without noticing the deepsslate it looked quite staged. Now it's just confirmed.

      [–]Aperture1106 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Quite clearly targeted at kids man, don't think about it too hard. But god it's so painful to see this garbage get thousands of upvotes, he cant even act for shit.

      [–]HowToBeGay10101 26 points27 points  (13 children)

Lots of these videos have been circling tik tok, they're all OBVIOUSLY fake, but they're amusing so who gives a shit?

      [–]Radi0ActivSquid 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I've noticed a ton of these fake instance Minecraft videos spamming Facebook shorts lately.

      [–]MVRKHNTR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

      Who watches Facebook shorts?

      [–]Zechnophobe 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I'm not super sure what makes it amusing though. The whole conceit of 'what a crazy fall' isn't amusing when it's a manufactured fall.

      [–]RedditYankee 11 points12 points  (8 children)

This feels like people commenting on an SNL parody skit like “this is definitely staged, the dude claiming to be obsessed with Papyrus is clearly Ryan gosling”

      [–]Darkiceflame 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I feel like the difference is that those SNL skits are clearly portraying themselves as parody, while these Minecraft clips are usually trying to pass themselves off as genuine.

      [–]littlebobbytables9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are they? I'd say this video is clearly not trying to pass itself off as genuine.

      [–]BrokenEggcat 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Ok if we agree that this video is staged, what exactly is the joke? These videos are typically funny because of the odds of the thing happening, but if it's all staged, then that defeats the whole point

      [–]RedditYankee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess the first part of the answer is that humor is subjective - I thought it was funny and obviously a parody, but I was a Minecraft kid and so I recognized the trope quickly. Lots of similar videos used to be pretty popular on the /r/Minecraft subreddit.

For me, the humor is that the guy recording the video breaks the first rule of Minecraft, miraculously and coincidentally escapes death, and then immediately falls for the same blunder. It’s not peak comedy, but I enjoyed it enough to defend it. I definitely understand other people not finding it funny or seeing the parody in it though!

      [–]MVRKHNTR 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If we agree that the three stooges is staged then what exactly is the joke? The films are typically funny because of the odds of everything going wrong but if it's all staged then that defeats the whole point.

      [–]BrokenEggcat -1 points0 points  (1 child)

What? Have you ever watched the three stooges?

      [–]MVRKHNTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Have you?

      [–]Uaex_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cobbled deep slate spawns naturally in bedrock edition at deep areas. It completely replaced cobblestone.

      [–]StarTrippyscrem 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Cobbled deepslate spawns naturally though? I've been on a Minecraft binge and find the stuff everywhere deep underground.

That being said, this is fake asf lmao.

      [–]Fyebil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does? Idk i haven't played survival much in 1.19, though iirc it didn't in 1.18.

Could be a Bedrock thing though, i only really play Java and it doesn't spawn naturally here.

      [–]CT-4426 1246 points1247 points  (95 children)

Bro fell for it twice in a row 💀

      [–]M4jorpain 925 points926 points  (91 children)

      Definitely not staged /s

      [–]GoldenFalcon 80 points81 points  (7 children)

Did I see the bottom video skip, but the top one didn't?

      [–]M4jorpain 114 points115 points  (6 children)

Nah, that's actually a zoom from a mod. I meant you can create the scene in creative and switch to survival to make it seem believable.

      [–]GoldenFalcon 28 points29 points  (3 children)

I didn't know about that mod. Thanks. And I agree with you! He clearly set it up beforehand. Goes right for the second vein and does straight down again.

      [–]SmithyLK 10 points11 points  (1 child)

you can even see theres a bunch of cobbled deepslate next to the diamonds

      [–]imapie31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the fact that diamonds VERY rarely generate like that anymore, and it seems like the deepslate appears way too fast.

      [–]PlNG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

      Optifine does that.

      [–]Darkiceflame 18 points19 points  (4 children)

What, you don't think the almost perfectly square hole after the first fall was naturally generated? /s

      [–]101BULL1 5 points6 points  (68 children)

      Who cares

      [–]Prophet_Ekalb[🍰] 149 points150 points  (59 children)

it’s not funny when it’s staged.

      [–]SoggyAssCucumber -5 points-4 points  (52 children)

Damn, I guess you have never laughed at a movie or a comedy sketch. Your little reddit brain can pierce the veil, unlike everyone else. Good job.

      [–]BezerkMushroom 91 points92 points  (4 children)

It's different and usually depends on how it's delivered.
Like consider a magician vs a medium. The magician tells you he is doing a trick, and watch close. Then he does a trick. The medium tells you he is magic and does magic. Then he does a trick. Magicians are cool, mediums are con artists.

A comedy movie is honest about being staged, but it's still funny because the situation is so clever/absurd/whatever.
A "just for laughs" style prank is usually not as funny as a scripted movie, but the magic comes from watching someone unaware they are being filmed and knowing that their perception of reality is being totally fucked with.
If you reveal that the "just for laughs" prankee was a paid actor, suddenly it loses all its shine and it's just a comedy sketch that isn't actually funny.

This sits in the middle. It's kind of a funny sketch, it's relatable and we've all been there. But it would be way funnier if it was unscripted and actually happened. It's weird to pretend that it wouldn't.

      [–]SirSquiZZ 110 points111 points  (20 children)

It's kinda presented as if it wasn't staged tho. There's a difference between a comedy movie and this, where it feels like the intention is to decieve the viewer, which makes it less funny to me personally.

      [–]patrickoriley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of people get defensive when you point out that stuff is staged because they are embarrassed they didn't notice. They always lean on the "I guess you hate scripted comedy" as a strawman. Don't take it personally. They are mostly mad at the person who initially posted it and will probably know better next time.

      [–]Abuses-Commas 50 points51 points  (3 children)

Movies don't pretend to be unscripted

      [–]SoggyAssCucumber -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Sometimes they do, wether that works or not is an entirely different discussion.

      [–]Zeoxult 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Imagine telling someone they have a tiny reddit brain when you can't comprehend the difference between a movie/sketch vs someone intentionally trying to pass something fake as real to the audience.

      [–]HughHoney6969 29 points30 points  (4 children)

      Your little reddit brain

He comments from his reddit account

      [–]successful_nothing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

      damn redditors, they ruined reddit.

      [–]SoggyAssCucumber -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Wow you truly got me there. I guess now I really have to make a Twitter account just so I can respond to people like you.

      [–]Traveling_Chef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After reading your replies it's clear you definitely have a Twitter account probably even bought that blue checkmark lmao

      [–]Snailtan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

youd fit right in, so by all means, go ahead

      [–]ImWhiteTrash 13 points14 points  (4 children)

I'm not agreeing with that person, but this clip didn't really do it for me. The guy makes it so apparent that it's fake it's hard to laugh because of how much of a disconnect there is between the person and the game. When he steps on the diamond he immediately stutters so he can prepare himself for the next scream.

Not all scripted comedy is bad, there are tons of great ones on this sub, but in this case the script is so apparent that it ruins it. It's so obvious that it's hard to tell whether he's even playing the game or commentating on pre-recorded footage.

      [–]trash_tm8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here we go with the same lame argument. You go into a movie/skit/show knowing its scripted. Feeling like something intended to be real is staged feels deceitful and disingenuous thus unenjoyable for some.

But if you enjoy stuff like this, by all means, go ahead. Mush brain content

      [–]BanMeThisIsMy9thAcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

      Dumb argument.

      [–]PM_ME_UR_POKIES_GIRL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A staged reaction video isn't funny because the very premise is flawed.

In a comedy sketch or movie the humor is because of the dialogue or situation, not because it's "real"

In a reaction video the humor is because "lol It's ridiculous that this happened!"

Except that it didn't happen, so there's no humor.

      [–][deleted]  (1 child)

      [deleted]

        [–]SoggyAssCucumber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess you never watch something comedy related without paying. Props to you, somebody's got to do it.

        [–]dagui12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretentious much? Lmfao if you can’t understand the difference between a staged reaction tiktok video and a movie like super troopers idk what to tell you.

        [–]Yaboymarvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s…not even in the same realm of comparison. You go into a movie or sketch knowing it’s “scripted” as you know they are actors. Creating a fake scenario and trying to play it off like you have no idea what’s going on and then presenting it as such is the issue everyone has. Same when twitch streamers purposely “suck” at games.

        [–]Affectionate-Bee3913 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Some things are only funny/interesting/exciting by virtue of being unscripted. The whole point of this is "wow, so crazy that it happened twice." Except, it's not crazy, so it's just a guy yelling at a fake scenario. Imagine as a non-joke version a sporting event vs a scripted sporting event. The fight in Rocky was a good fight, but it was fake. If the rest of the movie didn't happen and it was just a recording of a fake boxing match, it wouldn't be interesting at all. In the same way a lot of comedy, especially reaction comedy, is dependent on the event being organic or at least believably organic.

        [–][deleted]  (1 child)

        [deleted]

          [–]Affectionate-Bee3913 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a discussion about the clip. The gist of the original comment that started all of this was "wow it's so crazy that happened." Then all of us here started discussing the reality of the clip and the quality of it related to the reality.

Plus, it's just normal to criticique entertainment. There's nothing wrong with negative feedback. I don't think he's like a bad person. I just think it's poor work.

          [–]LungHeadZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I am a little irked that it looks staged but he does it well enough to come across as comical. I laughed more than I scowled because it’s relatable.

          [–]_Fuck_This_Guy_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lighten up, Doug. I even knew what was goign to happen and gave it a chuckle. You're life will be way better if you try to enjoy it.

          [–]dagui12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

          I do

          [–]M4jorpain 15 points16 points  (5 children)

You think gameplay videos are still funny if they're obviously staged?

          [–]Reyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are the odds he would fabricate this situation twice? Absolute madman

          [–]McIrishmen 58 points59 points  (2 children)

Even if the video wasn't edited, you can see cobbled deepslate next to the diamonds, so it's fake either way. But it doesn't take away from the fact that it was still entertaining.

A skit is not the same as faking a genuine reaction. You’re either purposely obtuse or a fucking idiot.

Can't stand these clowns who say 'bro' as 50% of everything they speak.

When something is so clearly scripted I can't help but feel completely apathy towards it.

              [–]Stealingyoureyebrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holding shift and not being right on the ore would help

              [–]AsherthonX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My nephew came to show me this, totally convinced this was real. Then when I tried to explain how fake it was, he slapped a you don’t understand Minecraft reply to my face. Like this little shit is 6 years old! Bitch I was there when Minecraft was free! And water would fill your entire world if it was placed wrong.
