Honestly I'd suggest watching her apple music interview if you haven't already. I also think the shirt situation was dragged out and talked about way too much for what it was (especially considering doja's response in the interview) but that's another conversation.

[–]chimcharm45 63 points64 points  (8 children)

I second this, this interview is a good place to start. In general, watching/reading her interviews is probably the best chance you have to understand her better. You wouldn’t necessarily be “supporting” doja by watching it since I’m pretty sure she’s not getting any funds from view count lol. I also think her therapy gecko video was an interesting look into her mind. Ultimately this is a decision you need to make for yourself. If you aren’t even willing to watch an interview of her, then I think you already know your answer

[–]puntato69[S] 30 points31 points  (7 children)

Yeah I made this to hear from other Black fans about how they felt and coped with it.

[–]chimcharm45 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Totally valid, I think there are a lot of vocal Black fans and haters on TikTok, most of them have well thought out opinions. It might be worth searching her up on TikTok and seeing what other people are saying there if you’re curious about their opinions :) I hope you’re able to find some clarity

[–]puntato69[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll look into that!

[–]jobobcool 6 points7 points  (2 children)

i literally love that interview sm the vibe of it was literally what i live for

[–]SunnFleur 80 points81 points  (25 children)

sorry this is honestly just my opinion so i do not mean to come off as rude or snappy and pardon me if this is off topic but i took a look through your post history and noticed you were a kpop fan. I would try to extend the same grace you extend to those groups (I used to really like kpop too and ik how problematic artists can be in that genre, and every other genre) to her as a biracial Black woman. Being Black, and especially a Black woman, you should realize that we are sometimes expected to be at a higher standard than other groups of people just to receive basic human decency. If this honestly bothers you I would recommend not listening to her music and I would understand why you would take that stand but at the same time I would hope that you could separate the art from the artist in this case considering she is only human and hasn't really done anything to hurt anyone else. She wore a shirt. I am not sure why she chose to wear that shirt in particular, it couldve been because the photo is from a meme, or couldve been because she wanted some negative attention that day but I always personally try to not take the actions of artist I like personally unless its some real foul shit. Its up to you to decide

[–]SunnFleur 39 points40 points  (6 children)

sorry i've been a doja cat apologizer since they were yelling she was in the chat rooms showing feet

[–]Pumpkin_2003 26 points27 points  (2 children)

To be fair, when people bitch about other celebrities, they bitch about them for like a month or two and then move on, but I’ve been hearing nonstop shit about Doja Cat for like an entire year. Like fine she shaved her head who fuckin cares, she still looks good and it doesn’t make her satanic. When people give me shit being like she doesn’t even know who you are , like and? I really don’t care lol People give her so much shit over such stupid things lmao

[–]puntato69[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yeah I think she's always going to look good, that's not even something worth playing into lol those people just hating for no reason. I think some of her actions can make people hesitant to get into her but her appearance is low hanging fruit tbh

[–]detectivepopcorn4932 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest watching D'Angelo Wallace's video on her https://youtu.be/rhj_gGMR5GU?si=IkzekO9NB60e2VMG

it was made before the hyde t shirt incident but still provides a lot of insight into her personality. I still have mixed feelings about Doja after watching her Apple interview, I didn't personally care for her response to the incident but i understand where she's coming from. I still think it's weird she thought he was funny but don't know how much deeper it gets than that. She has a 4chan edgelord sense of humor.

[–]puntato69[S] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

LOL I was also an apologizer when that happened too because I grew up mostly consuming alternative content and being in a lot of white spaces and I also said and did some things that I regret in those places as a impressionable teenager so I completely understood what she was going through at that time but now as we get older I find it harder to understand what she's doing lol

[–]hotdogrealmqueen 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Thats why im struggling. Cause it doesnt feel like she has moved away from it or matured. Im frustrated cause its more of the same. She has been consistently talking like this or about this kind of thing for a long time. I was upset with myself cause when someone told me who was on the shirt and i looked up more info, i wasn’t shocked- it was like oh yeah she doesnt really like our folk (i said bp in my head just explaining). Im frustrated

[–]puntato69[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I felt too (obligatory joke about biracials with white moms)

[–]puntato69[S] 6 points7 points  (17 children)

Yeah for sure as a K-pop fan I do get exposed to a lot of cultural appropriation and racism but for the most part fans come together to try to show how upsetting it is and get the artist and the companies to undo the irresponsible posts or videos that they've made and apologize for their actions. Something I have not seen Doja do yet but if she did I would be happy if someone could show me that.

And I'm not making excuses or anything at all but a Korean person calling locs reggae hair and an American wearing a white supremacist t-shirt are somewhat different because of the history that we are taught in our country versus theirs and the exposure we have to other cultures versus theirs so while yes Korean people do say and do racist things it is usually from a place of ignorance and when it's not fuck them lolol

[–]SunnFleur 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I hear you. The post was removed from her page. I understand Korean culture is vastly different from American culture but I really believe that if you can do enough research to be inspired by Black music and culture then you can also educate yourself on why blackface is bad and why you shouldnt say the n word. Kpop companies are ran by intelligent people who have access to the same internet we have access to. They actually have access to some of the fastest internet in the world, so they could look it up really quick if they wanted to. hehehe

Not to bring up others dirt but I was a huge KPOP fan back in high school and it was more painful for high school me to hear about Kunta Kinte lips being a slang term for full lips by my fav artists in Korea than seeing a woman wearing a photo on a shirt. I am NOT saying what she did was right but I do believe that she should have the opportunity to learn from the situation and move past it instead of it being the end all be all of her career. It is also very important to keep in mind that she is the targetted group of that mans hatred. If she was wearing it because she genuinely supports him then I pity her more than I am offended by her.

If you draw the line at the shirt, that is your prerogative. I was just letting you know my thought process in forgiving and forgetting the situation.

[–]MrHeavySilence 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Don't have much to add as a Chinese American guy, but yeah I'm sorry that the Asian diaspora in general is a little ignorant on things like cultural appropriation. Especially in China, there's a bizarre trend now with people trying to Afro texture their hair. They have this opinion that appropriation is a very American concept and that by wearing durags and Afro hair they are appreciating Black culture. Its somewhat ignorant and because of the demographics there's not really a way to hold people accountable. I think there's maybe an adjacent situation with Doja Cat, just things coming from a place of ignorance but not actual self hatred or intended racism.

[–]SunnFleur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! That's all I'm trying to get across. I don't mean for Asian communities to catch strays in a doja cat subreddit convo and I am not trying to express that I believe we shouldn't support Kpop music because of some shit certain people did in that past. All I am saying is that context is important and we should give each other grace.

[–]LoonyTunesnBongHits 4 points5 points  (13 children)

I think u just answered why you shouldn't be a fan of hers. She didn't hold any accountability and her fans aren't making her. She actively looked good person up to find and buy this shirt. You want to truly believe she isn't like this and I did too. But can't ignore when someone shows u who they truly are.

[–]puntato69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it just makes me sad

[–]MermaidMertrid 38 points39 points  (27 children)

It’s just a screenshot of a video he did (which wasn’t racist, from what I understand) and the guy was memed on 4chan because people kept blaming him for mass shootings or something? Anyway, I don’t even think she was being edgy or promoting the guy or being ironic. I think she just thought his content was funny and was probably part of the 4chan meme brigade. If the guy is alt right and a white supremacist, then he’s a fucking douche canoe. But it seems really absurd to accuse her of “being a nazi” because of wearing this shirt. People who are lgbtq allies still love Harry potter and wear their merch that was purchased before, not because they want to promote JK Rowlings views, but because the fandom means something to them and they want to connect with others who also love the fandom.

(That said, I refuse to eat chick-fil-a or shop at Hobby Lobby. I just find an alternative. So maybe I’m a hypocrite.)

When she starts actively spouting racist shit or donating money to alt right organizations, then I’ll write her off and never listen again. But I doubt that will ever be a thing.

I can’t tell you what’s right for you though. Just look into the facts, and make a determination yourself. Don’t just listen to chronically online redditors or tiktokkers.

[–]puntato69[S] -5 points-4 points  (26 children)

The only clips I've ever seen of this man was him being outwardly prejudice or racist so I just would never wear anything that promoted him but to each their own. I used to love Harry Potter as well but when I found out JK Rowling was a turf I immediately stopped consuming all content and I haven't looked back since because if you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything. I've never eaten at Chick-fil-A and there's no hobby lobby near me so I don't have to worry about that lol

[–]sixbagsamerica 3 points4 points  (6 children)

oh sweet summer child

[–]puntato69[S] 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Am I missing something?

[–]sixbagsamerica 14 points15 points  (4 children)

you think chik fil a is ethically worse than popeyes? do you think hobby lobby is worse than fuckin, i dunno man lol wal-mart? individualizing and managing from within the responsibilities of the bourgeois is wild naive and self punishing. corporations are all trying to kill us for money lol

[–]Married_iguanas 28 points29 points  (1 child)

which is why "voting with your wallet" matters to corporations. You would think you would understand that since you're being so condescending to OP.

Your apathy is exactly what they want.

"It's too hard to try to be ethical, so why bother?"

[–]Jakeremix 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Congrats, you got your 2 seconds in the spotlight to show everybody how much of an enlightened consumer you are. I bet your cynicism makes you feel very smart.

Now that that’s over with, let’s establish that it IS perfectly fine and reasonable to say that a company that donates to organizations that actively harm LGBT people and other minorities is, indeed, ethically worse than a company that does not donate to organizations that actively harm LGBT people and other minorities. Hope that helps.

I'm just not transphobic. I don't support transphobes. If having empathy is too sensitive then yeah I guess I am.

    [–]MermaidMertrid 10 points11 points  (2 children)

People are being a bit harsh. It’s ok to be sensitive and I totally understand and support your choice not to consume content from people whose morals don’t align with yours.

    [–]sixbagsamerica -2 points-1 points  (8 children)

and i’m toothless? girl ttm when your thirty four lol im not a doomer i fucking love this bullshit makes my hairs stand up all the time. im hopeful as fuck bc what else is there? but i do not think bud lite or chikfila wouldn’t kill me for money similarly, nor do i vote with my wallet bc its literally like a mini game of the c culture war, and it’s actually you who is wasting their fucking time go to mutual aid, go canvas for fucking anything fly a fucking flag. It’s more than fucking caring about what you fucking buy.

    [–]puntato69[S] 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Are you replying to me or am I missing a comment? Lol

    [–]Married_iguanas 5 points6 points  (6 children)

They meant to reply to me, which is even more embarrassing for them bc I’m a year younger and don’t have these brain rot takes and regularly participate in mutual aid and my local DSA

    [–]puntato69[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

    Ahhh okay. That's so cool!

    [–]Married_iguanas 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I will say I am not black so my opinion on this matter doesn’t mean much, but I think you received a lot of unnecessary backlash on this post and you’re well within your right to criticize artists you like. Stan culture is a plague

    [–]puntato69[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    People are passionate for sure

    [–]sixbagsamerica -1 points0 points  (2 children)

brain rot? i write for jacobin tf lol

    [–]NotthisAgain187 25 points26 points  (7 children)

I think to understand why she would wear that shirt you would have to have known that particular meme before you saw her wear it and most people haven't. For example, the popular Pepe the Frog meme is a common image used by the alt-right. Not talking about 4chan trolls, literal Nazis use this meme on a daily basis. But I could never convince you Pepe the Frog is a symbol of hate speech because you've seen that meme before but it is recognized as one by the Anti-Defamation League. This whole situation is actually super nuanced and it's more a conversation about meme culture than it is about Nazism but 'Doja Cat wears Nazi shirt' is a more exciting headline.

Doja Cat is on record saying she had no clue about Sam Hyde's political views and this is believable to me because I was on Facebook when that meme was viral and no one was saying he was a Nazi then.

    [–]WallaWallaHawkFan 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Dude Pepe the Frog is literally probably the most memed thing on Twitch and Twitch is probably full of like 80 to 90% of young liberals. In fact some of the biggest names of young left vocal supporters are on there with Hasan and Destiny being a couple of the big ones I can think of.

Memes are just memes, just cause someone uses the meme doesn't mean they have any certain political view imo.

    [–]NotthisAgain187 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is my point. When something is a meme where it came from, who made it, and where it's frequently used are irrelevant because it's a meme.

    [–]puntato69[S] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I'm familiar with meme culture and how things can be co-oped by different people. I used to love the pepe the frog memes, the fork in the electric socket was my faaaaav lol but once something becomes known by that new meaning, it's hard to separate it from the new meaning. Like the swastika wasn't what it always was, you know.

Thank you for telling me she said she didn't know. I also didn't know he was a meme, I only knew of his donations to neo nazis and that "controversial" show he helped make for adult swim. I just looked it up, is it only the mass shooter meme or does he have other ones he's known for?

    [–]aamo420 8 points9 points  (1 child)

My college friends really liked his TedX talk (2070 paradigm shift). It was when Ted talks were still the hottest thing, so him getting up there and just taking the piss was genuinely one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. I memorized that damn video. But then I watched some of his other stuff and realized how unique the TedX talk was, because everything else is just him making people and especially girls uncomfy for fun. I gave the adult swim show a chance too and barely made it through an episode. It's a shame.

Anyway. If you need to do this much research into the guy behind the t shirt to feel ok about going to a concert, you are thinking too hard :p

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I was just curious about how Black fans had felt about it and coped with it

    [–]NotthisAgain187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has others, it's kind of his thing now probably because he's realized it's profitable. His whole online person is a meme essentially. I think his most recent one is he convinced some new outlets he was the Ghost of Kyiv. There was a viral tweet of a US Congressman congrationing Hyde on shooting down Russian forces. He has some others that have made their rounds, but the gun one will likely go down as his most famous one just because it's spiraled into a full-blown hoax that people to this day still fall for.

    [–]Asella 16 points17 points  (1 child)

You want to go spend money to see her in person but aren't consuming her content so want us to do all the work explaining it for you?

    I am confused.

    [–]puntato69[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No I am asking Black fans how they moved past this situation if they were affected by it. People said that she addressed the situation so I wanted to know what she said.

    [–]BuffaloOk1863 30 points31 points  (10 children)

I don’t put artists on a pedal stool therefore they can never disappoint me. I listen to music. If the music makes me feel I seek out seeing the show live.

If you cant separate the art from the person, then Don’t. It’s your money and money talks. Give it to people you support.

You can listen to her music while giving her virtually zero dollars but never go to her show. Whatever mix makes you feel mode comfy

    [–]hahayesverygood 25 points26 points  (2 children)

You make an interesting point. Also the expression is “putting someone on a pedestal” not a pedal stool lol. A pedestal is one of those boxes that a statue stands on.

    [–]BuffaloOk1863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typing fast. I think the point is still understood though.

    [–]BuffaloOk1863 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said mode instead of most too, crazy right

    [–]MermaidMertrid 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I know it was just a typo but “Pedal stool” sounds like an alternate name for unicycle.

    [–]BuffaloOk1863 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao. The only way I’m referring to unicycles from now on 😂

    [–]puntato69[S] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Yeah I have not been streaming her music at all but I was interested in going to see her in concert bc she's a good performer.

    [–]BuffaloOk1863 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’d say do it then! The way I see it, I see live art all the time. Music, theater, comedy, etc. there is no way for me to know all of the performers and their backgrounds. sometimes it’s just fun to be entertained, no strings attached!

    [–]puntato69[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what my cousin was saying about Tory Lanes. Like he doesn't support what he did, he just really likes his music and while I don't understand that, I can see where he's coming from.

    [–]hsibami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

sam hyde’s white supremacy has somehow slipped through the cracks for a lot of his fans. it’s something i saw very clearly when she posted those pictures, and something i had seen before and since then. it’s not really that he hides it, more that people think it’s irony. it isn’t. there’s a jewish creator i used to follow who had same hyde on a podcast, i’ve even seen a beyoncé stan account post a video of him as a meme. i don’t know if that’s the case for her, but a lot of people have just been unaware. he’s not as niche as people make him out to be. a lot of self-described fans only really know him for the more well known jokes, like the one her shirt’s referencing. they don’t know of the other shit he’s done. at the end of the day, you can decide whether or not you think she’s worth getting back into. honestly, she’s on very thin ice for most people.

    [–]blu3di4mond 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Ugh same girl I can’t get passed it 😔 I really hate that she does that, and that her boyfriend is racist and part of white supremacy discord chats. I love her music and her style and her looks but that’s as deep as my love will go for her. I learned long ago to separate the art from the artists. Unfortunately most of the people I listen to are morally not good people. And I think fame and wealth brings out the worst in people so pretty much all celebrities have a very dark side to them :/

    [–]cherryflavoursoda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on her recent appearance on Therapy Gecko, she's single again. Or she's in an open relationship maybe, but she said she's on a dating app rn.

    [–]puntato69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I'm starting to feel that way too.

    [–]kayviolet 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I’m a black fan of hers. I moved pass it by not caring. I just listen to the music and keep it moving. I just don’t really keep up with the problematic things celebrities do or who I’m supposed to be cancelling. I just don’t invest that much energy into celebrities.

    [–]Buncumbe 12 points13 points  (1 child)

You can either ignore it, try not taking it so seriously or let it continue to bother you.

    [–]puntato69[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about racism entirely or just Doja cat?

    [–]AcrobaticMethod8830 9 points10 points  (8 children)

She wore that because it's ironic considering she's a bi black woman, and Sam uses LGBTQ ppl and POC as jokes often in his comedy.

    [–]puntato69[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Did she explain that? I haven't been keeping up my bad

    [–]Background-Dark-2094 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Explaining a joke automatically kills the humor.

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

That is not always the case

    [–]Cold_Manufacturer_18 1 point2 points  (1 child)

She was on video chat forums calling herself a n***** yeah dude she’s totally just being ironic

    [–]creamforkitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She was mocking the actual racists in the chat.. 🙄Who come and go on their own or are kicked out, bc that's how those public TinyChat "rooms" work

    [–]snarkystarfruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So then you literally don't know if she meant it as a joke.

    [–]Dudegend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Easy, stop listening to her

    [–]PTTScarlet 3 points4 points  (3 children)

To be honest dojas humour is f-ed, and she’s one of the most unserious people in the music and entertainment industry. She doesn’t care if you’ll get offended cuz she’s done trying to please everyone.

Especially since she knows even if she’s cancelled by mainstream media she’ll always have diehard fans. Plus doja is mixed she obviously understands racism and discrimination and isn’t being serious at all, she just finds this stuff funny and also knows it will get people talking about her. She’s doing a lot of these unserious things for the shock value and you shouldn’t take it seriously cuz she’s not a serious person and she doesn’t care if you dislike her.

All I can say is separate the art from the artist. If her actions really upset and offend you to the extent where you can’t support her, that’s a totally understandable reason to not be a fan anymore. I feel like she’ll stop most of these crazy stunts after the scarlet era. (and there are conspiracy theories going around that this is her humiliation ritual, personally I don’t believe this but yeah)

    [–]PTTScarlet 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Also can I just add that everyone is human and no one is perfect, and doja doing dumb stuff like this is a million times better then breaking laws and or harming people around her!

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think she needs to be in jail or anything lol

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humiliation ritual is crazy. People be saying anything fr

    [–]Atalanto 8 points9 points  (8 children)

I took that as an expression of how meaningless and ultimately powerless that guy is to her. I feel by wearing a shitty pdf of the dude on a t-shirt, it removes what power her may have just by existing.

    [–]puntato69[S] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

I can see what you're saying but I don't think wearing a swastika shirt makes the swastika less powerful LOL

    [–]Background-Dark-2094 -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

If you’re Jewish wearing it, I can definitely see that being its impact

    [–]puntato69[S] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

But do you think that a Jewish person's personal journey with that image is more important than publicly displaying that image and other Jewish people seeing it and feeling the effects of it? Like why not just wear the swastika shirt at home where no one sees it? Lol

    [–]Background-Dark-2094 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You can ask the same thing about a black person using the n word. I’m sure you may use the word from time to time and so does Doja, does she need to obsess over the fact that there Black people who find the word harmful *regardless of the race of the person saying it?

    [–]puntato69[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

There's a lot of Black people who don't use the word, especially elders. I don't use it around them out of respect. They have had more exposure to the word being used against them with malice than most of us young folks have so I try to respect their spaces. I'm sure not all Black people do that but the majority of the people in my family and around me are careful with it in certain settings.

    [–]Background-Dark-2094 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Correct and it’s not like Doja walked into a synagogue with this shirt on. She posted it on her own social media page. Just like if you said the n word in one of your posts and a black elder came across it and was offended, it wouldn’t then be on be on you to feel guilty. If a black person heard Doja say the n word in one of her songs would she need to feel any type of way about that? I don’t see how that’s different than this post of this alleged anti-Semite really. And I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people struggle to validate Doja’s Jewish heritage because she is biracial.

    [–]catsdelicacy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doja Cat is not a perfect role model, she's a troll with her own issues.

Stop expecting famous people to have a higher sense of morality or to be better people. That's not how people get famous. There's no moral expectation for being a pop star.

Either you like her music and you ignore that she's a troll, or you believe that she's a racist and you ignore her music, or you believe she's a troll and ignore her music.

And none of that matters to her. She's just gonna continue to be herself, and that's what I like about her.

    [–]Ill_Willow_2740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I looooove doja cat but can we talk about the shirt

    [–]See_youSpaceCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s wearing a Sam Hyde shirt? That should be a deal breaker for some of y’all

    [–]r3i_b0n3z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am black and i dont care. forgive and forget. she's controversial, i'm not really going to care about what someone i don't personally know is doing. i think people blow a lot of things out proportion, i'm here to just listen to the music and enjoy.

    [–]Resident_Conflict868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m white & will never support / listen to her again .. she has done this multiple times wearing racists tees & doesn’t care.

    [–]Weak_Translator_2165 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Where is even proof about Sam Hyde being one. Hes a super edgy and controversial comedian. That dude is in character 100% even in his more serious Podcast or streams where is own viewers ask for some help. His whole thing is to piss people off. If you get angry at that you are literally the joke of Sam Hyde. Actually a perfect fit for her not giving a fuck attitude. Because being like Sam Hyde in this time of age takes a lot of heart.

    [–]NotthisAgain187 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually a perfect fit for her not giving a fuck attitude. Because being like Sam Hyde in this time of age takes a lot of heart.

Sam Hyde is a troll, and nothing about his internet persona takes courage. It's very easy to not believe in anything and spend all your time making fun of people who do.

To be clear, I don't care if you like his content (that is your choice) but please don't pretend he's some hero it's disingenuous.

    [–]puntato69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand people thinking that it's comedic but comedy is subjective. I had an ex-boyfriend that joked about raping babies all the time and I just never found it funny. It's not a brand of humor that I think is good for society to be honest because it's the sensitizing us to things that are very serious.

    [–]mekkavelli 4 points5 points  (3 children)

you mean… the guy that uses his complete disdain for jewish people as a fervent ranting point on his podcasts and is openly xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, and racist? this man intentionally donated money to one of the most well known neo-nazi platforms in the current american journalism scene, the daily stormer. practically the official news source for 4chan users.

in his own words (AMA), the world is actively trying to suppress anything “white/masculine/traditional” and that immigrants come over only to not integrate, vote for socialist policies, and bleed white people dry. he goes on to deadname Caitlin Jenner, call to action against interracial breeding, and calling policies like military adventurism, ending the war on drugs, etc feminine nihilist bullshit…

and you’re sure this guy isn’t a nazi? ok bud. does he literally have to go on a killing spree against an ethnic group for y’all to be convinced or what. hating nonwhite people to this degree alone isn’t enough anymore?

    [–]SomeProposal7 -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Wait u like Jewish ppl? What about free Palestine ?

    [–]mekkavelli 2 points3 points  (1 child)

go hug your mother before the edgy jokes rot your brain permanently.

    [–]SomeProposal7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

    😂😂😂

    [–]Alive_Cut_8435 3 points4 points  (9 children)

Guy isn’t a white supremacist. And Doja definitely isn’t. So you can go to the concert happy :)

    [–]mekkavelli -1 points0 points  (7 children)

he’s a white supremacist. he literally rants about the same shit incels whine about on 4chan and domestic terrorists write about in their manifestos; white genocide. at what point does it stop being “trolling” and start being a reflection of the actual person’s beliefs? yall are collectively giving this man the biggest out i’ve seen since OJ. jesus christ

    [–]Alive_Cut_8435 -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

I just don’t agree. To me, he seems highly ironic. I think that’s most of his comedy that I’ve seen. I’m a big fan of ironic style comedy. I’m not sure what incels have to do with racism, it seems like you are quite angry at this group of people and since you have heard this man is grouped in with these people you are already on guard about the subject. Idk, it just seems like all of this has been blown way out of proportion due to people’s boredom.

    [–]puntato69[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

What's ironic about the comedy style? Is he Jewish himself?

I had an ex that would joke like "no pussy like kid pussy" or "she's so hot id rape her" and it would just shock the shit out of me how we could find these things funny and he always said it was dark humor but like... What's the joke? Lol

    [–]Sewmaeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s so off-putting. I would immediately look for a way to leave if somebody I knew made jokes like that.

    [–]lilhedonictreadmill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an old ama somewhere where Sam describes his politics and it’s basically white nationalism. Also some of the cut content from World Peace goes past edgy comedy and right into white nationalist propaganda territory.

    [–]mekkavelli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

incel and racist usually go hand in hand because inevitably, the incel terminal unfortunately happens to be a stop on the right wing pipeline.

ah yes, supporting “white power” creators because they have an ironic style comedy that’s just not for everyone, huh

    [–]SnowcaineBunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had been a sam hyde fan for years since he started basically. funniest fucking dude. but i didnt really follow him like that so i didn’t know he was a neo nazi. maybe doja saw some funny videos and looked no further into it like me ?

    [–]Background-Dark-2094 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I think what people have missed with this whole shirt “scandal” is an understanding of ironic humor. You may not find it funny and that’s more than valid ,(I wasn’t amused either) but I believe that was at least the attempt. Maybe he’s a white supremacist, but she is half Black and heavily identifies with that part of her identity, maybe he’s a Neo nazi but she is half Jewish. I think it was just trolling behavior taken to an extreme. + People want to lose their minds whenever women want to engage in offensive humor even when it’s at their own expense. I think if someone saw a gay man pretend to have Republican ideals by supporting a figure like Ron DeSantis, people would easily recognize the “gag”.

    [–]puntato69[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And I don't understand those type of gay people either like they are taking gay children and trans children away from their parents for validating their identities why would you ever want to pretend to agree with someone who does that like there are real life consequences to these bigoted people and making light of it is just so odd to me. I explained in another response that I understand why people think dark humor is funny but it's just weird to me I used to have a boyfriend who joked about raping babies all the time as a dark humor thing and that was always just very weird

    [–]Background-Dark-2094 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That’s not the same thing lol wtf. Unless he is a baby himself, not sure how that’s comparable to a black, Jewish woman ironically wearing a tshirt of someone who is allegedly against those two groups of people. And really it’s your choice not to see if it’s funny but don’t see how you feel it’s your right as a straight woman to determine if a gay person has the right to make light of a homophobic figure. (I know it was just a hypothetical but you answered it so)

And you stayed with your ex long enough for them to make jokes about assaulting babies more than once to you, and if I had to guess, that wasn’t even the reason you guys broke up but …Doja wears a controversial tshirt and you want to act like it’s the greatest offense to your morality lol

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess his humor was more "shit that should never be said" and hers is more "this person is trying to hurt/discourage me and I'm going to make light/ignore it." I'm not straight though lol and I didn't say anyone has a right or no right to do anything, I said I couldn't understand thinking it was funny, that's all.

Yeah I def should have broken up with him those those gross "jokes" but 2016 was a weird time for shock culture jokes. He literally introduced me to idubbz and convinced me that his logic on the n word was sound and it took him calling me the hard R in bed as a "joke" for me to realize that that guy was truly fucked in the head.

All of that was 2015-2016 when I was 17 and he was 21 so I grew up and my views have changed. That happens sometimes.

    [–]TapRevolutionary5345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her boyfriend is an abusive piece of shit. And she defended him, and even messaged some of his victims. I was a big part of his Twitch community, and I loved Doja before all of this came out. Look him up if you’re interested. His name is J Cyrus/Jeff Cyrus. Can’t help you there. Bye. ❤️

    [–]vaporwaveluv 0 points1 point  (2 children)

WHY DID SHE TAKE ANOTHER PICTURE WITH THE GOD DAMN SHIRT

    [–]SweatyManwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops! Forgot to check my colour at the door. Nevermind me.

    [–]Cautious-Luck7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I separate the art from the artist.

It's hard. But like, I listen to their music. So. Yeah.

    Poetry right there.

    [–]xxxhotpocketz -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

Ultimately it’s up to you if you want to give her your money.

Personally I wouldn’t, but it’s a bit hypocritical since our money likely goes to bad people anyways so if it’s something you’ll enjoy why not?

I don’t support her as a person or financially, I listen to her music on YT and that’s it. It is unfortunate, as a POC myself it’s disappointing that she’s kiss ass to a group that hates her. It’s disgusting fuck Nazis and white supremacist. Fuck any race who think they’re superior to others

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I'm thinking of seeing if someone can buy my ticket for me as a gift LOL because yeah she'll still be getting paid but at least it won't be for me and I'll go have a good time lmaooo

But yeah unfortunately there's no ethical consumption under capitalism so what can you do??

    [–]Background-Dark-2094 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That reasoning is kind of -silly… Do you think a vegan would still be a vegan if they just let their friend buy them stakes and didn’t use their own money? If you’re going to denounce something or someone maybe you should do it whole-heartedly and sincerely. Also the phrase “there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism” shouldn’t be for things that you can fully avoid. There’s no reason why a concert should be burdening you with some moral dilemma because you don’t need to go to one.

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    I knooowwww but she's so gooodddd that's why I'm so conflicted 😭😭😭😭😭

    [–]xxxhotpocketz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A YTer I watched famously said “if it’s fo free, it’s fo me”

If someone gifts tickets to you then yeah I wouldn’t feel bad about it, I wouldn’t feel bad about it even if I paid for it. Seeing Doja would be a awesome experience

    [–]Windrosary -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

UMMM UR CRAZY IF U THINK DOJA CAT IS A WHITE SUPREMACIST

SAM HYDE IS A COMEDIAN/HUGE TROLL

IF U THINK SAM HYDE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN DOJA CAT, WHO IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME TYPE OF ARTIST

THEN THAT REALLY SUCKS FOR YOU

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's not really about who's more important. We're humans, no one is more important than another.

    [–]Windrosary -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

    Not true

    [–]moneybaglayla444 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

    Sam Hyde mentioned 🗣️

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm sorry are we not supposed to talk about it here? I didn't know

    [–]moneybaglayla444 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

    I love Sam Hyde

    [–]puntato69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Ahhh

    [–]eeviedoll -3 points-2 points  (5 children)

She has a bad history like dating a guy known for emotionally abusing women and posting in white supremacist chat rooms. The guy on her shirt also donates to actual Nazis. I LOVE Doja’s music- I do not support her as a person at alllll

    [–]Lostinthesewers 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You do what you want the end of the day but she never posted in white supermacist chat rooms. She posted in chatrooms period, someone screen recorded her and THEY said she was is white superamist chatrooms with no proof. She and the people in the chat room have denied this. In the screen recordings you can see other women and POC there not just her.

    [–]eeviedoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just one thing even if you’re right and I’m wrong. She still wore the shirt of this white supremacist who donates money to nazis. And she dated and actively defended an abusive man (defended by blocking and ignoring his victims). She still sucks as a person

    [–]puntato69[S] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Yeah and I think I saw something about her blocking his victims when they tried to reach out to let her know

    [–]eeviedoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, sorry for chiming in as a white person. I just meant to take a chance to post about some more of her icky behavior. Didn’t mean to take a spot away from a Black conversation or say how anyone should feel about a celebrity!

    [–]wdpgrl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She’s trolling. But I know nothing about this tbh

    [–]DecentSpread6559 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

go listen to n.h.i.e. on loop

    [–]Remarkable_Shame8174 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I moved past this by not giving a fk. People are so dumb now a days to not realise that the only reason doja cat said she hated her “fans” was because they were her “fans”. People are dick riding celebs so hard nowadays just enjoy the music like you don’t need to know who they’re dating where they live or like the artist as a person just listen to the fkin music . Girl just stfu and play her tunes coz it’s obvious u can’t get enough

    [–]FishOffMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro is that a shirt of Adam Pacitti

    [–]ThatNastyDelicious -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Hasn’t she had two shirts with Sam Hyde on them a white supremacist and has only dated white men some of who are also adjacent to white supremacy

    [–]KitchenVehicle Scarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's just this shirt and she definitely hasn't only dated white men. Idk if you're just joking or just believe anything you read

    [–]domambrose96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really picked a good picture to use. That shirt man

    [–]Lanky-Positive-5876 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

    She look like a psycho

    [–]Low-Drive-7454 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? Some of the worst “music” I’ve ever heard.

    [–]Slow_Ad_7029 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Music is great but we’re watching a Britney level celebrity unraveling. The plastic surgery, the devil theme all for attention.

    [–]New-Reputation-9026 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

    Sam hyde is a hero

    [–]donkeywithhorns78 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

    Bitch I'm a cow, I say moooooooooo

    [–]seymournugss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A wHiTe SuPrEmAciSt lmao tell me you don’t watch Sam’s content without telling me you don’t watch Sam’s content. If he’s a white supremacist so are Kanye Kyrie Dave Chappelle and every other person who has spoken out against the widely documented over representation of Jewish people in positions of power in Hollywood and the media at large. Literally none of his or his groups content has been race related since his beef with Eric Heidecker or (Joe Goldstein?) that New York Times writer which was in what, 2014? His groups content is legitimately hysterical. Like, Shane Gillis and Tim Dillon, two of the biggest names in comedy atm, have went on his YouTube in the past year. It’s a balance of life advice and actual hardcore comedy. Maybe not for you but for you to abandon Doja over it cus her opinion is different than yours is crazy.

The shirt says nothing except that she has great taste and doesn’t give af about majority opinion. She reps what she reps cus she likes it. Just like her hair. Maybe give wanted school shooter the candyman a chance.

    [–]lilhedonictreadmill -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dude IS a white nationalist but he’s also a comedian. Doja is more likely a fan of his comedy than his views.

    [–]CartographerCandid65 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re so fucking stupid. Sam is a comedian, not a white supremacist. If you can’t tell the difference, you must be a far-left extremist. Seek help.

    [–]Any-Drive6970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    damn what she do ?

    [–]Putt_Blugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Why TF this picture tho?

    [–]blackcowgurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment contains a Collectible Expression, which are not available on old Reddit.

    [–]criticalstars 0 points1 point  (5 children)

i will probably get downvoted for this but… why is this something you would want to overlook? why is this something you feel you need to be able to look past? she did something that, in your own words, “broke you” - but you feel obliged to ignore that because you want to give her money to see her perform?

i would take a long hard look at your values and what really matters to you before anything else.

    [–]sixbagsamerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    happy as a clam

    [–]Fit_Strength_5398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Fix them brows

    [–]Ok_Independent5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive been a fan of hers for a long time, when that whole thing happened i just knew not to take it serious. imagine being dumb enough to post a pic of you wearing a shirt that you KNOW is associated with bad things. i knew she knew nothing about that but i also know doja to be very into meme culture so thats why she had that shirt to begin with, then the apple music interview came out and it was what i thought so.

    [–]SeaTurtleManOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    lmfaoooo

    [–]Realsadg1rlshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you don’t know her. You will never actually know her. So just enjoy her music.

    [–]flappybirdisdeadasf 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don't think she knew who it was tbh. I didn't know who the guy was until the pic went viral on X and I googled him.

She's not immune to doing dumb shit, nobody is. I just assumed she actually didn't recognize the guy and wore it bc she thought "haha, ugly white dude with an ar-15" and wanted to be edgy without realizing he was a weird racist internet troll.

    [–]Iluvjimmysmom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No she came out and said she found him funny when he was on adult swim

    [–]Just-Entrepreneur825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not be her target audience anymore.

    [–]Bombaclat1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    She’s not black

    [–]peach_madness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're better off without her lbss, this pic is all you need to run! RUN!

    [–]Raspberry_Strong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    the bitch weird

    [–]R3k7_Cupcak3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    lmao just don't

    [–]bionicmook 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Side note: is she playing a show in Ohio soon? All I can find are upcoming tour dates in Europe.

    [–]chimcharm45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oooooo you missed her by like two months....she was in columbus december 4th

    [–]tahwraoyw6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if she truly didn't know he was a white supremacist, she still admits that she found the guy to be funny, so her taste in comedy is questionable...
