any shows VERY similar to anne with an e?
r/Anne

This reimagining of the classic book and film is a coming-of-age story about a young orphan who is seeking love, acceptance and her place in the world. Amybeth McNulty stars as Anne, who has endured an abusive childhood in orphanages and the homes of strangers. In the late 1890s, Anne is mistakenly sent to live with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. Anne, who proves to be uniquely spirited, imaginative and smart, transforms the lives of Marilla, Matthew and everyone else in their small town.

any shows VERY similar to anne with an e?

I really REALLY enjoyed Anne with an e. One of the things that I fell in love with about the show was the amazing visuals, the coming-of-age theme, and mostly the touching on feminism, racism, and LGBTQ subjects. I would really like to see another show or movie similar to this that touches on the same subjects as Anne with an e while also preserving the amazing graphics and taking place in earlier times like late 18th century to early 19th century. Please and thank you, reccomend me some!

Do you think if Anne with an ‘E’ was released in 2023-24, it wouldn’t have been cancelled?

Shows like "Anne With An E"?

I just finished Anne With An E and since a season 4 is not happening I need to find another TV show that is similar. My conditions:

  • Female lead

  • Set in 19th century

  • Not about royalties or aristocrats

  • Not sad and dark

Any suggestions? 🫶🏼🫶🏼

I love this show so much and I’m so sad that it got cancelled it’s so unfair it’s so amazing and the characters, the story line and the messages it passes to this world. Whoever wants there is a petition where you can sign in order to maybe renew it and the goal is 3 million. There already have been 1.7 mil signatures and if anyone wants to help please sign. I really hope we can get another season

Anne with an E: Spelling Preferences

Just as Anne Shirley was convinced that her name looked better spelled with an E, what are the spelling preferences you have?

I choose Sara over Sarah, Amelia over Emilia,
Zoe instead of Zoey, Miles not Myles, Damian instead of Damien, Alastair not Alistair if English, Alasdair if a Scot. Katharine/Katherine or even Kathryn over Catherine

Adaptations that aren’t Anne With An E?

I read a good chunk of the books when I was younger and was very excited to start watching “Anne With An E”- it started off well enough but with the huge amount of plot changes from the novels it honestly felt like a live-action Anne fanfiction by the end of the first season (albeit a well-made one). Are there any other adaptations that don’t stray quite so far from the plot and still hold up today?

false

Now don't get me wrong, I am furious that we where robbed of an additional 6 seasons of this show, but honestly it had a better ending than what most canceled shows get, and honestly if I didn't know I would have assumed that it was the actual intended ending of the show. Everyone's story ended on a good note (well, except for Ka'Kwet, but if you think about her her ending was also good in terms of reality, which is a conversation I'm not going to get into right now) everything seems to be resolved for the most part, Anne got with Gilbert, Diana finally got the freedom she wanted, Elijah was able to turn his life around and apologize to Bash and Gilbert, and Anne was about to find out more about her parents, the only thing I genuinely don't like is how Jerry and Diana's relationship turned out. Honestly I feel like the ending was really good. I mean, I've watched other shows that have been canceled prematurely and honestly this ending is way better than being left on a huge cliff hanger with a bunch of unresolved and underdeveloped characters.

Is Anne with an E worth it?

So I've been meaning to get around to watching Anne with an E but it's been cancelled by Netflix so I want to know if it's still worth watching. Are there any loose ends at the end of the series that will disappoint me due to the cancellation? Or does it still wrap up pretty nicely?

Historical reconstruction of a dress from Anne with an e

Hi,

I am currently reconstructing a roughly 1899 dress from season 3 episode 10 of Anne with an e. I am a historian but not particularly a fashion historian and I don't particularly have any sewing experience, aside from mending clothes. I have managed to come to grips with the skirt patterns, I'd still appreciate any advice, however I am struggling with finding a both historically accurate and show accurate bodice pattern for this dress. I speculate that this may be a faux jacket-bodice of sorts as opposed to a blouse and a jacket piece. I would greatly appreciate any patterns, tips, tricks or advice to do with any part of this project.

Thank you very muchy :)))))

Love for the Anne with an E

Hello everyone!!

I'd like to reach out as someone who has recently watched the series and was completely captivated by it.

I adore how the show beautifully captured the spirit of the 1890s. Every scene made me feel like I had stepped into the past. Simultaneously, it portrays a beautiful spectrum of human rights, including LGBTQ+, diverse racial backgrounds, the story of the Native Americans, adoption, and of course, feminism challenging societal stigmas.

I went through a complete roller coaster of emotions and shed numerous tears while watching the series, and I'm devastated by its conclusion. I simply cannot believe that some shows, nowhere near as profound and high-quality, manage to have 15 seasons, while this one barely had 3.
If only there were a new petition—I'd sign it ten times over. If only another distributor could pick up the series. I don't want to watch the old version of the series which is the "Anne of Green Gables", I want this one to continue.

Perhaps it's not normal for me to become so attached to a series, but I'm sure some of you will understand. It's so powerful because I deeply relate to Anne herself; she's like a younger version of me.

Please, share your thoughts with me.
