Animal husbandry
This subreddit is dedicated to Starfield, a role-playing space game developed by Bethesda Game Studios.
I am level 56, and level 100 seems so far away, and the animal husbandry method is so mind numbingly boring. Is there a better way? I have tried looking on youtube and google, but it's always animal husbandry.
Songs of Syx - the strategy game many want, but none have been insane enough to create. Until now...
Does fertility effect the output of ranches? Do I have to slaughter animals to get the resources?

Hey dear Vintarians, my second question and post in this subreddit. Going to keep it relatively short this time.
What is the best way to gather animals in the desired area? I watched several videos on YT but people always seemed to have a few workarounds to do so such as making them follow you or fleeing them away from you to the place you want them to be in, rather than using an intended way. So I assume there is no such intended way. It is quite difficult to make these beautiful creatures follow you especially if they are female as far as I have seen so far.
Any comment is appreciated. Have a nice day/evening fellers.

What do we think the chances are we'll get to raise animals on our farm??? I'd love some cows wandering around tbh

Hello all, I have been very interested in homesteading for a while. However, I am vegetarian & don’t feel comfortable with killing animals, or doing things that lead to the death of animals. However, I absolutely love animals, and would love to have them as part of my future homestead. Ive seen animals being used for eggs, milk, wool, and even labor such as plowing the land, this is what I would like to achieve. Here are my struggles on trying to figure out how to do this “ethical” farming (without losing money):
-Chickens. I first thought of chickens because you can get their eggs without killing them. However I have recently found out that chickens only produce eggs for 4/10 years of their life and am left wondering if the cost of giving them a good quality life would be greater than the cost of buying the eggs from a farmers market (free roam and whatnot)
-Cows. I originally thought cows could work, as you can get the milk from them without killing them. However then I realized that you would have to sell off their calves, and the males would probably be killed for meat and eaten eventually which I don’t really feel comfortable with either.
-Alpaca. As of right now, I have settled on alpaca, because their main export is their wool, and even if I bred them, the eating of alpacas is not common and I could feel comfortable knowing that selling the cria would not lead to their untimely deaths.
Anyone have anymore information or resources for this type of farm/homestead? I haven’t heard much about it. Thank you so much!
Welcome to r/tolkienfans! This subreddit is a space for the Tolkien nerds of reddit to debate and discuss the whole Tolkien mythos. We emphasise serious discussion here over jokey/meme-based posts. That's not to say you have to be a LOTR scholar or Tolkien academic to post or enjoy this subreddit, but that we'd prefer mature topics of discussion here.
It occured to me earlier today. That there are no mentions (to my knowledge) of smaller breeds of animals in the Shire. The Hobbits ride ponies to accommodate for their size, but there aren't any mentions of smaller breeds of pigs, cows sheep, etc. Did Hobbit farmers keep large animals? I imagine chickens and similar birds would be easy, but animals like cows would be very difficult if not impossible.

Welcome to Self-reliance! This community is a place to discuss experiences, articles, guides, life-hacks and bits of knowledge on how to be self-reliant, we have the aim to increase a bit more our knowledge in different areas. Self-reliance is a broad concept, it is our intention to be a platform of knowledge and educational sharing of skills that may give individuals some sort of independence for their lives.
Greetings all. Someone added me as an "approved user" so I thought I'd join the community and start a discussion.
We practice self reliance in my home on the daily. It's not something we even have to think about anymore, we just do it and it's become a way of life for my family and me. A good part of this lifestyle is butchering. We do not use a processor, we prefer to do all butchering and processing ourselves. I feel that out if respect for the animals, we have a responsibility to use as much of the carcass as possible, and not let anything go to waste.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts and stories about animal husbandry and butchering. Perhaps some insights to y'all's experiences.

I unlocked zoology 1…then 2 to try to build these units, but they won’t show up as build options. I assume they’re supposed to be in the same menu with the greenhouses, right?
I have outpost engineering and planetary habitation maxed out. I’m trying to build on a habitable planet…do I have to have surveyed the whole planet or something?

There aren’t any answers on YouTube or the internet right now so I’m going to put this information out there incase others get stuck or need help. Once you unlock outpost engineering 1 and have the greenhouse and animal barn unlocked it doesn’t show up in build mode even after research is 100% complete.
The greenhouse and barn will show up after you scan things to “over”100%. You have to scan the fauna and flora on the planet to 100% some of the fauna can be auto planted in the greenhouse once a water and power source is connected. You cannot plant food items like grapes, oranges, potatoes ect in the greenhouse. It just auto plants whatever flora on the planet you scanned. So if you wanted to have a garden on planets welllll you can and can’t.
Hope that helps because it took me about 4 hours to figure this out.

I work in a lab doing animal husbandry. The animal care supervisor, who trained me, is one of the most compassionate people I’ve met. He’s fatherly without being condescending or diminutive. He has a daughter my age, and it’s clear when he talks about her how much he cares about her. He’s devoted to his job and he diligently, truly cares about the animals. He’s gentle and encouraging. He’s been in this profession for over 35 years and he clearly takes it so seriously.
One of my first days training, I accidentally spilled a water bottle in a vole’s cage and got the bedding wet. He helped me clean it up, told me it wasn’t my fault because it had been sealed improperly by someone else, and praised me for not dropping the glass bottle in surprise.
Lately, I’ve been worried for him. He’s been coming in late. He didn’t used to smell like cigarette smoke but lately, hes coming into the lab clearly having just finished a cigarette. He is still very conscientious and gets everything done, but he takes more time because he’s less organized than when I first met him just a few months ago. There’s been rumors of alcoholism, which I’ve seen no evidence of other than him being very dizzy one day. I hate that there are rumors about him and that people don’t just talk to him directly. He is one of the kindest people I’ve met.
I’m worried about his health and I’m worried he’ll lose his job.
He’s from Palestine and has family there. He told me that he hopes to visit them this year, but it probably won’t be possible, and that he hasn’t seen them in nearly ten years. I can’t imagine all the emotions he must be going through.
Please bring him to your thoughts and prayers today. Please pray for his health, his job, and his family’s wellbeing. Thank you ❤️

Veganism: A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.
