Amortentia

I always think how funny this scene could’ve been, when he smells the love potion in Slughorn’s classroom, without realising what it was. Not that I think the scene should have been different, but I laugh picturing it, since Harry himself hadn’t realised his own feelings yet.

‘Hey, I recognise this potion, what is that smell?’ Harry said, sniffing from one of the cauldrons on the table. Ron leaned over to take a whiff. Hermione glanced over.

‘Oh, you recognise it beca-‘

‘Ginny’s perfume!’ Harry said triumphantly, glad he was able to remember. Hermione stared at him, mouth agape, looking utterly shocked. Her expression then turned to suppressed laughter. Ron looked confused, like he was about to argue, when Slughorn waddled over.

‘Ah Harry my boy! I see you’ve found the love potion! Smells different to each person, y’know, depending on what they’re attracted to!’

Harry’s mouth fell open, and he felt his ears start to grow hot. He chanced a look at Ron, whose brow was furrowed, looking confused. He looked over at Harry. His expression slowly changed to realisation, followed by shock, and finally glowing red with anger.

‘Right, let’s get started!’ ejaculated Slughorn.

I think for me it would smell like a well-read book, smell of mud in rain, freshly baked, cheesy and gooey garlic bread and the sweet rice like smell from my dog's fur.

I think I would smell Old vinyl records, watermelon sorbet, and shower gel.

I was not a fan of Atlas Six so I am wary to try any of her Dramione fanfics. But I've heard some of hers are the best. Can you guys please sell me on which ones to try? Vibes, trope, emotions, etc. Thank you!

I’ll start: laundry detergent, perfume, camp fire and flowers in the spring

We never got to see Snape teach amortentia but we know it’s a part of the sixth year curriculum.

Just had a thought today of Snape having to teach this potion every year and having to smell it while it brews and how it must smell of Lily to him. 😢

Or maybe only Slughorn added it back in. Maybe Snape avoided including it when he taught potions 😭

I don’t know—what do you think? Would he have followed the curriculum or have avoided it entirely?

Does Dumbledore smell the Shampoo Ariana used? Maybe Snape smells the tree he and Lily used to sit under, and Neville’s tears? just interested in some cool theories people could come up with.

I often ponder what others think they would smell. Thought I’d ask!

It’s totally useless and I know this is a question that have been raised already but in case you missed it, or changed your mind like me 😂 What would the crush-love potion Amortentia smell like to you guys ?

I'm relistening to the Harry Potter audiobooks and I am on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince now. I was just listening to Hermione tell the class that Amortentia smells differently to each person and then proceed to describe what she smells. This made me think about Voldemort, or Tom Riddle while he was at Hogwarts.

Professor Slughorn was his teacher and it makes sense that Ridde would have sat through a similar lecture. It is said that Tom Riddle could never know love because he was conceived under a love potion.

So if this is true, and he really cannot know love, what would he have smelled? Would he have smelled anything at all? I'm very curious to see everyone's thoughts on this.

Looking for Dramione amortentia fics

I’m currently reading Half-Blood Prince, and got interested in the concept of the use of Amortentia (the Love Potion.)

Any suggestions?

I need to update my multi-chapter fic, but these niggles just keep coming.

Summary: No one in the room smelled like her amortentia in 6th year. But things change over time.

The dreamy, dopey look on his face; the way his voice squeaks when he yells "I'm in love with her;" the bewildered "where's Romilda?" when Slughorn opens the door; falling off the sofa; hugging Slughorn and going "hello, darling" while Sluggy cooks up an antidote.

I'm writing a fanfiction and I've struggled with what to write in as his Amortentia scent to my character. I'm thinking of quill ink and I need a couple other notes. Any suggestions?

We know what Harry and Hermione smelt (treacle tart, the woody smell of a broomstick handle, and "something flowery"- which later turns out to be Ginny's hair for Harry, and freshly mown grass new parchment and Ron's hair for Hermione) in Amortentia, but what about the rest of the characters like Ron, Ginny, Neville, Luna, Dumbledore etc.?

I think Ron would have smelt The Burrow's orchard, his favourite food (chocolate frogs, maybe?) and the "unusual perfume" he gifted Hermione for Christmas in OotP.

Voldemort can't love, so I guess he wouldn't be able to smell anything.

I am looking for a fic that uses either of these potions- I find them super interesting!
