AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT (RDNA2) Post 'Launch' Apocalypse

As with previous tech launches this year, 2020 continues to extract a heavy toll.

The Radeon RX 6900 XT is now out

Stock was extremely limited and most websites will have sold out instantly. Most of these websites will not know when they will be getting new stock, so you will likely be wasting your time in asking.

For the few of you which got an RX 6900 XT, well done and enjoy.

For the majority which did not get an RX 6900 XT, please be patient and don't buy from scalpers, you will simply encourage them.

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Review Roundup - By VideoCardz

If you have a general question regarding RX 6900 XT GPU, availability, pricing, compatibility or wish to vent, see below or do it in this thread.

This megathread will seek to act as a location for basic questions and answers, saving spamming up the sub with hundreds of threads that few will see and will likely get caught by our spam filter.

  • Q: Do I need to upgrade?

This will depend on what you have currently, your requirements, regional availability and pricing. As a general rule of thumb, if you are happy with what you have now, there is no reason to upgrade.

  • Q: Where can I buy a Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU?

This will depend on your country/region, you should check with local retailers or ask below

  • Q: Where can I get [insert GPU] for the cheapest?

This will also depend on your country/region and how lucky you are - certain websites are known to increase prices during the checkout process or on launch day

  • Q: Will the Radeon RX 6900 XT be scalped?

Yes

  • Q: Should I buy a GPU from a reseller (scalper) on eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace etc?

Ultimately it's your money, but it is not advisable to purchase from them, as it can cause issues with warranty and it encourages their behaviour.

  • Q: I managed to pre-order a Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU, will my order be kept or cancelled?

We have no idea, contact the retailer you purchased the GPU from from.

  • Q: How much stock of the RX 6900 XT is there?

We have no idea, and often times the retailers themselves don't know exactly how many shipments they will get until they arrive

  • Q: When will the RX 6900 XT restock?

We have no idea, nor will most retailers

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Warzone and Stream Stuttering

https://preview.redd.it/3omborje7ng61.jpg

6900 XT users, is this normal? This is just gaming without OBS running yet. It gets a little bit worse when I run OBS. Running WARZONE at 1080p mostly high settings. FPS can hit 230+ but dips down to 150+, stuttering is noticeable. Tried to limit my FPS to 160 and try, and it dips down to 120. I realize it has got to do with my GPU utilization as I can see the dips, also the Power Consumption, is it normal?

PC Specs: CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X GPU: XFX AMD Radeon™ RX 6900 XT 16GBM/B: X570 Aorus MasterHDD: WD Black 500GB nvme + XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB nvmeRAM: Klevv 3600mhz DDR4 16GB x 2AIO: DEEPCOOL Castle 360EX RGBFans: CoolerMaster MF120 S3 x 7PSU: Corsair RM850iCasing: Corsair 5000D Airflow

6900 XT is tuned to the following: Frequency 2100-2550MHz Voltage (mV) 1175 VRAM Tuning untouched Zero RPM Disabled Fan Speed Aggressive Curve Power limit +15%

Here's an update of what I've tried and done:

  • It's a clean reformatted drive with new Windows, drivers updated

  • No stutter on Apex Legends

  • Changing settings on adv_options on VideoMemoryScale (Range from 0.3 - 0.85) also on RendererWorkerCount, I tried 6 and 12

  • PBO2 and SAM enabled

  • PBO2 and SAM disable

  • PBO2 disabled SAM enabled

  • PBO2 enabled SAM disabled

  • Reinstalled WARZONE

  • High / Low settings on WARZONE both stutter

  • Game mode on and off

  • Power options on high performance, and other optimization recommended on YouTube

  • Display Freesync on / off on Radeon Software

  • Moved my WARZONE folder/game from my 2nd m2 nvme into the same drive as my OS.

Update 15 Feb 2021: I've replaced the card with a RTX 3090 for a couple of days, there's still micro stuttering. Beginning to believe it could be the AMD R9 5900x for bottlenecking at 1080p. I've just managed to figure a weird way to reduce the stutters, by enabling ray tracing and increasing the render resolution to 130. Before doing this, my 3090's GPU usage is about 70% ish, it's now consistently above 90% and gives me a much more smoother gameplay. Since I've tested both cards, the 6900xt actually matches if not beats the 3090 on ingame FPS, surprisingly. Too bad I had sold it off already and I won't be able to test if this fixes the stuttering with 6900xt. :) I've just bought a 1440p monitor, let's see if it helps removing the stutter.

Update 19 Feb 2021: Switched to 1440p, there's still micro stuttering, it's just not smooth. Found a thread on 5900x for WARZONE, someone recommended to change it from 12 to 6, half of the cores, and it did help to reduce some stuttering. Begin to think it is the 5900x problem. Will do further testing.
