Crispin Glover (Actor who played George McFly) was only in the first film and sued Universal and Amblin Entertainment in October 1990, claiming Glover's voice and likeness were used without permission.

Universal refused to rehire Crispin Glover for the sequal as they believed he was asking for too much money, allegedly he was asking for $1 million dollars.

So they hired an unknown actor Jeffrey Weissman who vaguely looked like Glover and used a face mold of Glover that was made during the first film to assist in crafting his old age make-up, to make him look like Glover.

Glover and fiiled a lawsuit against Universal and Amblin Entertainment in October 1990, claiming his voice and likeness were used without permission. Glover argued he had a right to publicity, or the power to retain control over his own likeness. Universal countered they were simply perpetuating the character of George McFly, which they owned.

Without any admission of wrongdoing, Universal agreed to a settlement of $760,000.

Most people usually go with other Spielberg or Amblin productions but what can you see being set in the same universe as the Back To The Future Trilogy.

I can’t find any real kind of discussion around the movie Amblin, Spielberg’s first short film, I have so many questions...
r/filmtheory

Film theory, or cinema studies, is an academic discipline that aims to explore the essence of the cinema and provides conceptual frameworks for understanding film's relationship to reality, the other arts, individual viewers, and society at large. Film theory is not to be confused with general film criticism, or film history, though there can be some crossover between the three disciplines. Please read the sub rules below before posting.

This post may contain spoilers. The truth is the movie itself is kind of lackluster and I watched it because I was told by a few people to look out for symbolism. The entire movie which is free of dialogue, revolves around a pair of hitch hikers more specifically the first man that appears and what he may or may not be carrying inside his guitar case. I need to unpack that guitar case with someone who has a critical eye. Most reviews I find barely mention its contents. All I’ve found is a few people on YouTube dissecting it for so-called obvious pedophile and/or occult symbolism. I have lots of other questions like what does the water represent? What are they not showing in the guitar case when she kind of smiles? Of all books that he could have carried with him why that one? If the contents of the guitar case do show pedophilia as implied by some items, why isn’t she more disgusted? There’s a wide array of things in that guitar case and everything is in there for a reason. She only pulls out a few items (which yes are creepy) but you’re more scratching your head, especially at her reaction. There’s business man clothes which is odd for someone portraying themselves as a hippie I guess, there’s toilet paper, a sci-fi book written by a known pedophile, what looks like it could be a boys pair of underwear (unclear), the one wingtip shoe that she pulls out, there’s milk of magnesia inside which when being carried by a young man for that time does imply it’s use for anal sex. What do we think she thinks? We know she comes to some conclusion but she’s not mad or upset, she just walks away like she knows now she doesn’t want anything to do with him. And he’s happy as a clam in the water. It’s the one time in the movie that he doesn’t look nervous. What do we think he’s looking for in California and what kind of freedom does that represent?

TIL when Jerry Lewis taught film directing at USC in the late ‘60s, George Lucas was one of his students and Steven Spielberg audited some of his classes. Lewis later screened Spielberg's short film Amblin' (1968) and told his students, "That's what filmmaking is all about."

I want to ask can anyone see the Back To The Future Trilogy being in the same universe as either other Amblin Entertainment films or Robert Zemeckis productions?
