Why doesn't Ippo have any amateur boxing experience?

In real life, every single boxer ever out there has an amateur fight(s). Why did Ippo have none?? The pro test exam does not count as an amateur boxing match btw. So why? I don't get it. Why did Coach Kamogawa immediately make Ippo jump from boxing as a beginner for about 3 months to turning into a pro? Seems dumb and almost too unrealistic. It would've been better if he had at least participated in an amateur boxing tournament because of resume, so he'd get better fights, better purse, better name and more. Just seems dumb.

ToTF for Amateur Boxing Conditioning

Curious - is anyone else out there using this as a conditioning method for amateur boxing? I compete and like others, enjoy playing this game. I'm hoping this can be a good substitute for my conditioning workouts. It definitely leaves me more sore the next day than sparring days, so it's gotta be doing something - right?

The main reason I think it works your body more is the retraction. Since there's no force met at the end of your punch, you're left stopping that force and pulling it back every time.

Any other ToTF folks competing?

How long should it take before I can begin amateur boxing?

To start off the post I'll say I just finished my second boxing lesson with a coach, he said I'm grasping the footwork and that I have strong punches. Obviously I know it will be awhile before I am ready for a bout but was just going to see if you guys could guesstimate how long it might take me. Before I even began the gym I weighed 260 but have worked myself down to 205 by working out 5 days a week, but I think I'm planning on going to the boxing gym 3-4 times a week and dedicate a whole day to roadwork. Anyways any opinions would be appreciated! And I'll be sure to keep everyone updated on my boxing journey!

First amateur boxing bout

Hey guys, I wanna ask you about the first amateur boxing bout and the fear of losing. I ve been boxing for some time and my whole team and the main coach tells me that Im ready for the first fight and that I should take it. I personally wanna compete, but there is one problem that I dont know how to deal with. Its my huge fear of losing, I just dont know how to face it, because I feel like that a loss would mess with my head alot. There is no problem with bloody noses or black eyes, had those many times. But its just the pure fear of losing and the fact that I just dont know how to deal with it. This thing really drives me crazy so im currently training 3 times a day 7 days a week. Could some of yall please tell me any tips, thank you ppl.

Politics in amateur boxing

So I’ve had a few fights, some I did great some I did ok. I don’t expect to ever have a win handed to me, but I definitely have felt robbed of wins. To be clear, I had a bunch of people I don’t know come to me directly after the fights I ‘lost’ going idk what just happened because you clearly won that….

I’ve accepted it for what it is, but it is incredibly frustrating in some ways. Maybe this happens more for females?

Not sure if anyone else has had to deal with the political aspect so I guess that’s why I’m posting. Also curious if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Amateur Boxing: All The Styles, All The Time

"What should be my style?" It's the question we all asked ourselves when we started. I envisioned myself as a grindy in-your-face brawler. Lol wrong. Anyway, this question leads to so many beginners wearing blinders about their own training that I think it's worth discussing.

So... styles aren't real.

What we sometimes call "styles" are just advertising terms from professional boxing that promoters use to more easily describe fighters. It's a lot easier to sell "slick outboxer" than "slick outboxer who uses pressure tactics to work his way inside, and brawls in later rounds" even if the latter explanation is accurate.

Amateurs have to do it all, ready to switch tactics on a dime to solve Right Now problems. So that's all I'm saying to the new guys: lean into what you do well, and support your excellence by working hard on the techniques that aren't second nature to you.

TL;DR: There are no styles in amateur boxing, just situations. Work on techniques for any situation.

Becoming an amateur boxing coach

Can someone become a coach with a criminal record

So basically I have a criminal record it's assault I won't get into it but i was protecting family.

I'd love to get into coaching and teaching as I think I will be good at it, obviously I'll start by helping out at the gym and I will be doing all the qualifications but would I fail a DBS check with that over me?

First Amateur Boxing Match

Hey everyone. I participated in my first amateur boxing match 3 weeks ago. I’m the boxer out of the red corner. Unfortunately I came up short losing a unanimous decision. After watching the fight several times I feel it was a close fight. I’m not a power puncher so my game plan going in was to score points and move my feet constantly. I was specifically looking for lateral movement to create angles which to attack off of.

I’m looking for constructive criticism so I can improve. I know amateur judges like to see lots of volume and activity and I feel this may be where I came up short. Thanks!

Edit: I wasn’t sure how to embed the video directly into this post so I added the youtube link below.

Any advice and tips appreciated but please don't say "keep your hands up" cause it's pretty obvious that i've adopted a hands down style

Are "Stops" legal in Amateur boxing?

Hey!

I watched a video on George Foreman (1:37-2:00 is the relevant part) a few days ago, and I like the concept of his "leverage blocks" and "stops" but I can't find a ton of information online about either of these techniques. I've heard that stiff arming isn't actually legal in amateur level boxing so I was wondering if stops would be legal or if it would be the same idea as holding or stiff arming.
