• Is Alyssa Thompson the immediate answer to solving USWNT ‘s attacking injuries?

It’s no secret that Mallory Swanson was supposed to be leading the USWNT attack at this upcoming World Cup. So much talk since her injury has been about the talented newbie, Alyssa Thompson. I am curious to see if fans think it’s a gamble to put a lot of pressure on her to replace Swansons contributions or if the USWNT would be better off primarily relying on the in-form attackers that have more experience (Williams, Rodman, Hatch, etc.)? My question is…is it really fair or realistic to expect Thompson to magically fix the USWNTs injured front line when she’s only a few months into her rookie season and only has 3 USWNT caps to date? Has she shown enough in the league to prove that her lack of experience won’t hinder her impact because of her talent…? I think that is debatable and I’d like to hear what people think.

Ps. Keep in mind that Press and Macario have not been ruled out of the WC yet officially. Could we see one of them surprisingly sneak in if they can be upwards of 75% fit in time for the tournament? Unlikely but we also haven’t gotten an update from either in a while. I’d like to assume that Swansons injury would make Valtko more apt to bring someone with more experience in, as long as they are progressing in time to be able to contribute something at the tournament.

• Quick question: Why was Alyssa Thompson called up?

Not to be harsh because she’s young there are alot of players playing pro that are experienced that could have been called up but he calls up someone in high school. Even then, if they based it solely on performance her last outing with the U20 was not great for the team and she wasn’t particularly great either.

Look at Pugh when she was called up she was the captain of the u20 side and forestry the best player in the team.

Macario won 2 best college player of the year awards with god like stats before she was even called for training

I just don’t get why you put unnecessary spotlight on a 17 years old
