Sound engineer for NIN makes his own amazing stuff I really love this, as one commenter said 'drone with grooves' - definitely close geneological tie to industrial via nin but is kind of psychedelic dissociative in vibe.

I asked once in this community about other ambient awesome music. I was referred to Alessandro Cortini, who plays the synth for a lot of live NIN. I was not disappointed. I was in fact blown away, and it was exactly what I was looking for. He's a world class synth player, and it falls in line with the aural appreciation of NIN. Check him out.

I'm listening to his album "Volume Massimo" for the first time and I wonder how he got these noises, which are one great soft and warm down duvet that wraps the listener. I tried to do something like this with different types of noise and filtering, but the results weren't similar.

There may be other ambient artists, I don't know all of them. First announcement of Montréal's MUTEK Festival.
