An in-depth discussion of film

The holy mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky is most meaningful film I’ve ever seen.

Alchemy, religion, sex, love, illusions, reality and the absurd are thrown in your face in a surrealist grotesque fashion. You have to contemplate and spot what every countless symbol on the set means just for the ending to unearth whatever your efforts probably were.

I see that this film is highly divisive in the film community, a near 50/50 split between Avant-garde pseudo-intellectual garbage or courageous/innovative cinematography coupled with the greatest symbolism of all time.

I think the primary issue for its harsh criticism is that an understanding of Jungian Psychology, Christianity, world-wide mythology, Buddhism, Geo-politics and Taoism are necessary just to understand a moderate amount of the symbols deployed to make you contemplate. It ask a lot of the audience in terms of knowledge and offers virtually no help in getting them to understand the symbols.

Anyway, I will definitely be watching El Topo after THM left me stunned. I’d love to know if anyone else left with a similar feeling, or if you’re on the side of the critics, I’d be equally interested as to why.

The Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky

I have to let it out. This is the very first movie I've watched by Jodorowsky, I knew before watching it that it is quite different and mostly visually storytelling. However, after watching it, and watching another 45 minutes videos explaining about it, I really want to know about other opinions of people who watch this movie.

Since my friends 100% didn't watched it, I am looking for more thoughts from people about this movie.

What are your thoughts about the message, the visuals, cinematography, music?
