Adventure Time Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know

Adventure Time Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know was supposedly released today. Has anyone played it?

My friends and I were looking into how the multiplayer worked for co-op? Does anyone know if it's one cart for 4players? Or 4 cartridges for 4players

Any insight or reviews on the game would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I've been searching and searching for some gameplay of the 3ds version of the new adventure time game but all I can find is gameplay of the xbox 360 version. Does anyone have a link to any 3ds gameplay? I'm trying to decide between the 3ds and Wii U version.

I've been looking on the internet and I see a lot of negative reviews. They're saying that the game is soulless and repetetive. I don't fully agree.

I ordered the game pretty quickly and although I haven't progressed far (currently on the 21th floor) I have to say I quite like it. It isn't very hard but I do think it is genuinly fun. It is a great game to pick up and play for five minutes.

I do also have problems with the game, my main problem is that (as I have said) it is fun for five minutes, but the game forces you to play 5 floors at a time. Which (in my case) takes much longer than 5 minutes. Another problem for me is the small roster of characters. I was a little bit disappointed to see we can only choose between eight characters. I also only played it with my SO and can imagine that playing solo could be a less fun experience as well.

Overall I thoroughly enjoy the game, I like the fact that every character has its quirks and perks. It is very accessible and aesthetically pleasing. If they'd offer some extra playable characters as DLC I'd be over the top happy.

The game isn't perfect But I still enjoy it. What do you guys think?

Edit: Apparently Peppermint Butler is already DLC, does anyone know if there are other characters on their way?

A positive review of Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know

So far I've seen a lot of negative buzz around the newest AT development. I totally understand the negativity as well, people wanted more from Ward. Also I see that there are technical difficulties with the DS version and probably all other versions as well.

However in my experience, I would say get the game. Be fairly warned, it is a stupidly simple game. Top-Down 64 style button masher. No skill needed and tactical decision making is minimal. But if you are like me, looking for a fun game that can be played with friends (or alone) that's chalk full of references to the show and characters you love, you will not be disappointed.

Also, the 40 dollar price is well worth it to me. I am a college student so I know what it means to spend money wisely. And especially with video games this translates into one major factor, REPLAY-ABLILTY. Due to the utter lack of a storyline and simplistic setup of levels, this game is chalk full of it. It's something you can play while watching TV (perhaps even a certain show based around a boy and his dog hint hint).

This was kind of longer than I had hoped, but bottom line is, don't expect a grandiose game with exploration all around Ooo. Just enjoy the new platform of adventure with the characters you love.

TL;DR The game is good, simple, and replayable. If you're looking for something that is affordable and can give you the AT references you want, this is for you.

Some things you may want to consider if you are planning to get Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know

I've been playing the eShop downloadable version on the 3DS for the past hour or so. Here's what I have experienced, so you can consider whether or not the game is for you.

  • The B button is the affirmative, and the A button cancels. This can be a huge pain in the neck during "yes/no" dialogues, if you are used to it being the opposite way as it is in almost every game.

  • It's cute when you pick up items and Finn says something or BMO says something. It's not so cute when they both say something at the same time, making an unintelligible word mess. This happens about a third of the time.

  • I got to the 4th floor of the dungeon, a vertical line appeared across the screen, and the game crashed, causing the system to reset.

  • Okay, second play-through. Having to start over at the 1st floor, because there is no saving system until, I would find out, after the 5th floor. Trust me, after the game has crashed on you once, that is an eternity to wonder if everything that you're doing is going to be blitzed again.

  • The map is just awful. Maybe other characters have better cartography skills, but the map is so useless in this game as to barely warrant its inclusion. (The map appears by pressing the touch screen. It doesn't appear on the touch screen, but the top screen. It becomes pretty apparent that they just didn't know what to do with the touch screen.)

  • The treasure randomization system leaves a lot to be desired. I got three or four of each token they let you have during the first five levels, the thump token and the Turtle Princess token. I also got about seven kitten guns, to the point where there were so many of them around that I could see two on the ground on the same screen.

  • Speaking of randomization, the levels do not seem to be procedurally generated, rather pulling from a collection of pre-made rooms. I realized this when my second play through's floor 5 was the same as my first play through's floor 1.

With all that in mind, you may want to reconsider whether or not this game is worth your thirty dollars. I'm pretty disappointed in Cartoon Network and WayForward letting this one out the door, especially as far as WayForward goes. Their games are usually very high quality and it feels like with this one they just poorly adapted a browser game to a console game as a cash grab.

EDIT: A few more points that need addressing.

  • Often, at the beginning or ending of a stage or on the title screen, there's a little burst of sound like a file being half loaded or a memory leak. I realize that this game is an homage to retro gaming (at least I hope so, because otherwise the pixelated graphics are just awful for awful's sake) but being a gamer from the '80s, I can't say as audio pops were a particularly endearing part of the nostalgia.

  • Diagonal attacks: your enemies can do them, you can't (despite the inclusion of the circle pad for theoretically full directional usage).

  • Walls. Your enemies can go behind the depth of them, you can't. Your sprite stops at the top of the wall, despite the implication that there is depth behind it, and your enemies using that depth.

It's a solid game, much better than "Hey Ice King Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?" It play very similar to Diablo, which is a good thing. Combos, charge attacks, blocks, weapons, power ups, and loot are all part of the game. You play as either Finn, Jake, Marceline, or Cinnamon Bun (you can unlock Lumpy Space Princess and Ice King later in the game. Each one has strengths and flaws, for example Marceline can hover over pits to obtain items that Finn cannot, but she has less health than Finn. The dungeons are randomly generated so it's different each time. The plot is that prisoners are escaping Princess Bubblegum's dungeon and you must stop them and find out how they are doing so. Lastly the art style is great, does the show justice and the sprites are great (Marceline's sprite is too adorable).

DISCLAIMER: The only demo there was the X360 version of the game and that is what I played.
