This is a subreddit for news and discussion of Old School Renaissance topics. We primarily focus on D&D (LBB, 1st ed. AD&D, etc.) and the retroclones. Other Old School games (Traveller, Runequest, Tunnels & Trolls, et al) are of course open for discussion. This is *not* a place to rant about how (your least favorite edition) sucks! In fact, I hope discussion arises about how later editions do things right, and how to incorporate them into OSR-styled games.
I was somewhat disappointed when I purchased the Advanced set for OSE only to find that it wasn't a faithful recreation of ADND, but a piece consisting largely of original content inspired by ADND. This is fine in its own right, but not what I'm looking for. Is there something roughly on par with OSE for ADND, in terms of faithfulness to the original game's rules and ease of use?
If not I guess I'll have to make one :P

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons was an episode that was hyped to me by my friends who had watched the show before me. Primarily because I am into TTRPGS (Was into DnD 5e for a while but then moved on).
I get this is a comedy show. But the episode as a whole gave me The Big Bang Theory vibes when it comes to nerd culture. There were good moments for sure, I won't deny that.
The whole group was pretty much the group from hell that would turn off any person from the hobby. You had an overly enabling DM. You had a that guy (Pierce, because who else) who ruined the game for everyone involved. You had ERP, which destroys many tables.
I had a few laughs with the episode, but overall left a bad taste in my mouth.
Then I discovered Advanced Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. It's so much better. There is some friction in the group but it seems like they are all having fun. The whole arc about Hickey connecting with his son. Applying his interogation skills to the came. I love that moment when it clicks for him "Hey, I can work with this".
The whole episode is both funny and has a positive message about the hobby. ADD technically ends on a good note. But it felt like a last minute cop out like "Oh it wasn't that bad actually". It was that bad in my opinion.
