Hello,
I've spent a while gathering all the resources I could find to help master Adobe After Effects, whether you're a beginner or looking to polish your advanced skills. Below, you’ll find a fairly big list of YouTube channels and other resources that should significantly help with learning AE.
(I couldn't see any other posts on here with a list like this, If i've missed one, please reply with a link to it 😊 )
These are all channels from memory/misc places I've saved the odd tutorial to come back to, with a few new channels that I've stumbled across while creating this list.
If you have any suggestions of other channels/resources (or you want to plug your tutorials) pleae reply to this post and I will add them to this list.
I'm hoping this post has enough responses that it can become a definitive list.
In the future (with enough entries) I might further categorise this list for beginner/intermediate/advanced and the category of tutorials (VFX/Motion design etc.)
GOAT CHANNELS (In no particular order):
Video Copilot is how many AE users started out - The tutorials are quite old now but still hold up very well today. The focus on Video Copilot is typically more VFX based than pure motion graphics.
-
Jake In Motion has a series covering every single effect on After Effects, I'd highly recommend checking it out. He also has some great SkillShare classes, alongside a course he's just dropped called Launch into After Effects.
He's also got classes on School of Motion which are worth checking out.
-
Ben Marriott's channel is full of fantastically presented videos, his master motion design course is also great, I've not tried his motion foundation course but I'm sure it'd be brilliant.
-
School of motion = 🐐
-
13 years worth of tutorials - Go him ouy.
***********
All Other Channels (In no particular order):
Mapal's channel is relatively new to posting AE tutorials, however, there's a growing volume of them on there and they're very high quality and put together.
-
Skymography is another new(ish) channel with AE Tuorials which are put together incredibly well.
I personally would check out the tutorial 'Secret VFX Trick to Elevate Your Edits (After Effects Tutorial)' - The reverse stabalization trick is something that's very useful and not talked about enough.
-
Motion Hatch is a great resource for learning the business side of Motion Design.
-
Ravie & Co also give away their project files
-
Shuterstock has a range of After Effects Tutorials
-
Envato also has a range of After Effects tutorials alongside Illustrator & Photoshop tutorials.
-
Many quickfire tutorials on (mostly) Kinetic Type. I personally find these are mainly tailored towards beginners/intermediate users.
-
A very large collection of tutorials.
-
Texture Labs has some great AE/Illustrator/Photoshop tutorials - Their site is also full of high quality royalty free textures and tools. ()
-
Part of Maxon, the makers of Cinema 4D, ZBrush, and Redshift Renderer. - The cheap trcisk & vfx sidequest series are both great, they also go through a number of free scripts, I use the 3D Normalization one a lot. ( )
-
Michael Ponch has a mixture of motion & VFX tutorials, VFX tutorials mostly seem to include Zak King inspired edits.
-
Speciality in Character Rigging/Character animation. (Although there are some other notable videos on this channel, including one called 20 tricks in After Effects - - some of these tips are also covered in Ben Marriott's 50 tips of After Effects)
-
Motion by Nick is a great channel!
-
Emonee LaRussa has some great tutorials, her Instagram is aso worth following too, with some very creative projects usually followed up with a breakdown of how the project was made.
-
Tutorials View+ has a pretty large bank of tutorials, although it's a shame they're only subtitled and they don't speak in them.
-
Black Mixture's tutorials are ideal for beginners - I found this Stable Diffusion x After Effects tutorial quite interesting - (Please don't have a debate about AI in the replies, this is a post about AE learning resources.)
-
Videolancer is also the creator of MotionBro - an extension with some very handy presets.
-
Max Novak's tutorials are usually covered from the ground up for beginners, they're also very music video focused.
-
Ezra Cohens channel covers a fair few tutorials, EZCO has some great assets too on their site.
-
Hieu Vu's channel is criminally underrated.
-
MotionXP has some useful tutorials, I think the 'Style like a PRO with this hidden technique' has some great value about layer styles. ()
-
Although Cinecom has now come to an end, there's a great backlog to get through.
-
Production Crate has some great tutorials, I'd also been sleeping on the fact they have some great plugins & assets too - highly recommend checking out their plugins/website -
-
Stern FX mostly seems to cover 3D work within After Effects - with the recent updates to 3D in AE, I'd imagine there will be a lot of valuable content coming from this channel soon.
-
Olly Spin is the owner of Cel Wizard - at the moment there's only 4x tutorials on his channel, but they're all worth watching.
-
I stumbled across this channel when compiling this list - It's certainly a channel I'll be having a binge through.
-
This is another channel I've stumbled across while compiling this list, there's quite a few resources on Gen Fill on here.
-
Motion Nerds features tutorials on how to make videos like VOX amongst other tutorials.
-
Montinaro Gabriele currently only has one upload, however, it's a very high quality breakdown and it was posted recently, I hope there will be more uploads in the future.
-
(Posted by user Disastrous_Stage_843)
Francisco Giordano has some great tutorials on expressions!
***********
Learning Element 3D (In no particular order):
Video Copilot is the creator of Element. Andrew Kramer = 🐐
I more or less learnt to use Element with Magnet's tutorials.
VFX world has a fairly large back catalogue of Element tutorials
***********
Photoshop Tutorial Channels (In no particular order):
(I'm aware this is a post about After Effects resources, but it's still highly relevant/a lot of compositing tips on these channels can be transferred to AE etc)
Umesh is a fantastic teacher.
-
Photoshop Cafe has a huge catalogue of useful tutorials.
-
Benny Productions is a fun channel, not as tutorial focused though - if you're an intermediate or above user of Photoshop, there's still tips and tricks for compositing to be picked up on.
***********
Other Resources (In no particular order):
Adobe has their own bank of tutorials for learning After Effects.
-
Dan Ebberts site on AE Expressions:
-
Expression library:
-
Reddit Post: 'Things About After Effects for the Newbie (an incomplete beginner guide)'
-
Michael Janda is a good resource for learning about running a creative business.
-
The futur is a very good resource on running a creative business, Chris Do's book is also great.
