I’ve listened to most of Carlin’s Hardcore History. Any recommendations for podcasts that have a similar style and depth?
I Am A, where the mundane becomes fascinating and the outrageous suddenly seems normal.
My 5 Questions:
-
How did you become such an excellent orator?
-
How long does it take you to prepare the presentation of the show compared to the historical research?
-
How much of what you speak on a given episode especially in the HH podcast is spontaneous? Or do you do multiple takes involving both spontaneous and predetermined content and ultimately settle upon the final content?
-
How much help do you have? Are your podcasts a "one man show" or a team effort?
-
How large approximately is your audience, how many downloads do your shows get on average? Is there a single show that stands out? How does HH compare to CS in that respect?
-
Can you tell us something about the demographic of your listeners? What do you know about "us"?

Edit: I fully expected this request to drown and am very positively surprised by your overwhelmingly positive reaction so thank you all! Also, I am hoping that some of the people who showed interest aren't already subscribed to and that we managed to reach a broader audience here.
I've done an AMA before in the history subreddit and I had a blast. It was great to be asked back to talk about politics (or whatever I guess, right?). Thanks for having me. For those who don't know, I do a couple of podcasts...one focusing on the past and one more on politics/current events. Shows are available via iTunes or my website at

So living in the present and seeing all the radical change around us, whether its tech, political, cultural makes me wish we could all skip forward 100 years and have Dan do a Hardcore History about our current times.
A former president's 1st criminal trial began in earnest today, and i think will be fascinating reading in like 60 years, assuming the republic survives that long. Along with all the current wars between nations right now. The information revolution, and utilization of social media etc...
So my question to you all, is what event that has happened in the last 40 years would you want a Hardcore History show to cover if we all jumped a century ahead?
What are some books from different HH episodes that Dan referenced at some point that interested you enough to read yourself (and enjoyed)?
From Twilight of the Aesir, I’ve started the Children of Ash and Elm and The Perfect Storm…
For the most hardcore Dan Carlin fans, what is generally considered his best series (is series the right term?) in Hardcore History?
Personally, I always think of Blueprint for Armageddon as his masterpiece - but am I in the minority?
If you haven’t listened to Shane do these hardcore history episodes you should definitely go give them a listen. It’s awesome to hear him go off on subjects that you can tell he’s seriously passionate about. Dude really knows his stuff about history and he’s able to deliver it in a way that’s super entertaining and funny, but also very informative. Be really cool if he had his own pod or show that are like those episodes.

pour yourself a hot cup of brown, drop a deuce, and light a cig because this group is designed to give the user the ability to reminisce, and push further arguably the best era of ruthless shit talking/bullshitting in the storied history of 242's sick pit, all wrapped tightly within the layered scene politics of BHW's premier punk/hardcore/metal forum. I hope we're all aware, as this group grows, that I established it strictly for storytelling and satire. The internet isn't what it used to be,
