I'm a fan of Matthew Modine. Many people remember him from Full Metal Jacket, where he played a great character, that of the Joker, where he also did some narration. Here's a favorite quote: "The dead know only one thing: it is better to be alive."
But some might remember him from Short Cuts or most recently in Oppenheimer. I think his first movie was a role in Baby It's You (1983), which is a cute little movie and I recommend you check it out if haven't seen it. He's been in nearly 100 movies, TV shows, and plays. Yet I rarely hear people talk about him...
A celebration of movie making, showcasing the best behind-the-scenes photos, videos and articles from movies, classic to modern, kitsch to cult, and everything in between.

Matthew Modine’s first burst of fame in the 80s was before my time (I was born in the late 80s) and I never really knew who he was or what exactly he looked like, even though I knew his name.
I only started watching Stranger Things in the summer of 2022, and I saw his name in the opening credits. But when Dr Brenner appeared on screen, I didn’t recognize him and so I didn't realize that that was Matthew Modine.
When we first see Will and Jonathan’s dad, I was like oh, that must be Matthew Modine, and so for the entire first season I kept expecting Lonnie to have a much bigger impact on the story because he was in the opening credits. Like, after Joyce kicks him out of her house in episode 5, I kept expecting him to reappear at some point. But no, and then finally I looked it up and realized I was mistaken.
Anyway I’m rewatching now for the fifth or sixth time and remembered how confused I was my first time through, and felt like sharing!

He was absolutely amazing in season 4. The way he played the parental side and manipulative side of Dr Brenner simultaneously was perfect. His presence was there in every scene and I was just drawn to him whenever he was on screen. Heck, I felt kinda sorry for him when he died!
