Never has been a truer statement made on live TV

[–]Top-Passage-1066 286 points287 points  (22 children)

Yeah he has a pair for doing this lol. Some of the peeps in that room would cap a g for a speech like he gave...if it wasn't him

[–]ShutUpChunk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

'cap a g'? What the utter fuck are you talking about vanilla ice?

[–]dubski04021 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He was sick of them asking him to host, so he decided to spit the truth

[–]Nhexus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the peeps in that room would cap a g for a speech like he gave

[–]Killdebrant 731 points732 points  (13 children)

It was even better when he called everyone out for being buds with Epstien.

[–]Old_and_moldy 499 points500 points  (5 children)

This whole monologue is the best in award show history.

[–]captaincopperbeard 244 points245 points  (4 children)

For those who've never seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJOb9xHggS4

It's honestly a riot. NSFW btw (this is the uncensored version).

[–]JohnYCanuckEsq 69 points70 points  (2 children)

"Please donate to Australia"

Oh shit.... The just before the end of the before times.

[–]JerkyBeef 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Truly the end of an era

[–]The_Thunder_Child 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh, right. We were on fire.

[–]5thPhantom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. It was great.

[–]ShmeffreyShmezos 137 points138 points  (4 children)

Looks like Tim got Cooked.

[–]BigYonsan 40 points41 points  (1 child)

I'd have paid good money to watch Tim Cook's face as that monologue continued.

[–]Pirloparty21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tim Apple

[–]BeeStraps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He changed his name to Tim Apple for a reason (nobody can tell he’s the same guy as before)

[–]ea93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tim got Apple’d

[–]Billbeachwood 232 points233 points  (2 children)

Goddamn.

[–]HamiltonSt25 67 points68 points  (1 child)

You should watch the whole thing if you haven’t seen it.

[–]CommissionHerb 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The best is how often he’d come out holding a beer. Single greatest moment of live tv. He made the globes a roast.

[–]bernurs 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Yes, Tom Hanks.. He’s talking to you

[–]RKLCT 152 points153 points  (3 children)

Ricky Gervais is a gift from heaven

[–]Satanus2020 66 points67 points  (2 children)

Ricky Gervais would laugh at the irony of this comment fr tho

[–]RKLCT 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I know. One of my favorite things he's ever said was something along the lines of "There's 3000 different religions but yours is the only one that really exists" he's one of the best comediNs to have ever done it.

[–]ruico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Christians are 0,01% less atheists than him.

[–]Specialist_Farm_4293 60 points61 points  (0 children)

He is not wrong. I love all the nervous laughter from the audience

[–]PyroAutism 145 points146 points  (14 children)

watched all his speeches like 3-4 times in a row. it's crazy how everyone keeps calling them out, (almost) everyone understands what is happening, and nothing is done.

not talking about how we have to start a revolution this very moment or smth, just... interesting i guess. humanity works in weird ways

[–]Top-Passage-1066 27 points28 points  (5 children)

it's just like when a family member acts out. you don't believe your lying eyes and ears. So you just go with it and agree with the insanity. and you try to live with it, move on, and hope they fall off a cliff someday so you can give a beautiful eulogy..

[–]AlexRobinFinn 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Sounds like you've got some family trauma there, bud. Much love, hope you manage to work through it ❤️

[–]Top-Passage-1066 6 points7 points  (1 child)

haha yeah...my eulogy is pending, wish me luck

[–]AlexRobinFinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

❤️

[–]ilovedaryldixon 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wow. You described my feelings about one of my family members perfectly.

[–]Top-Passage-1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. my family is uber religious. to me that's insanity to to them i'm insane. this is how i know.

[–]vkailas 18 points19 points  (5 children)

Revolution against who. Look at history, new people on top end up slowly becoming like the old. What's need is an inner revolution which maybe happening already.

The 60s take 2 but not so much focus on stuff in our pants, but what's in our heads.

[–]MrDanMaster -1 points0 points  (4 children)

[–]vkailas 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Nature is purposefully left out of these diagrams as a partner in production. There is a deeper reason why we see nature as nothing more than something to exploit. That's where the inner part comes , not just outer understanding like this video

[–]MrDanMaster 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Indeed Marx was concerned about the long-term effects of capitalism on nature, long before the climate crisis ever came to fruition. Marx never failed to acknowledge that nature is the origin of all material.

[–]vkailas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I haven't read throughly but when put to practice in Chile for example, the result was scarcity because all the people in power hoarded resources. It can be beautiful ideology and all but has to come with an inner change and not just forced to be effective.

Also probably anlot of unresolved issues as we all got https://www.jstor.org/stable/26304644

[–]MrDanMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve now read this article in full, which basically recounts some of Marx’s beefs and intellectual disagreements. I’m a big fan of 2Pac and Eminem’s disstracks, so I’m not really discouraged by the use of extreme or violent language. It was cool to recognise quotes from Capital that I remember, such as those made against Carey, but I fail to make sense of the point this paper is trying to make. There are some tenuous links to Freud, but it doesn’t develop anything out of it. What the paper fails to mention is that he uses the unbaked nature of his opponent’s theories to explain his correctness on the matter.

It is right to spell out your theory at the expense of other academics. Marx was not just an author, he was politically active. He had skin in the game and was actively organising workers. When unfounded blabber gets in the way of liberation, a literary shove will be more effective than a tap.

Besides, the personal behaviour of Marx as a person should simply be unrelated to Marxism. Marxism is the most developed, expansive and rigorous of all related to revolution, rebellion and the study of oppression and liberation. It’s been refined for over a century and remains crucial. Despite his achievements, Marxism is greater than what he could express in his time. Even if you come out believing nothing the Marx ever said, it is preferable to gain that insight in the field of Marxism, for it will deliver the most well-founded of all criticisms.

[–]BanditoFrito530 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think one of the reasons nothing is done is because we’re all (mostly) powerless to do anything. There’s far too many things under these umbrellas that would affect our daily lives to try to change it. We’d basically be making our own shovels to dig a hole. And they’d be up on top laughing the whole time.

[–]Slow_Perception 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy that they kept letting him in a way...

[–]greenhornblue 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I loved seeing him say this.

[–]broggygoose 50 points51 points  (0 children)

British Carlin in that moment. Awesome because it’s the truth, sad because it’s won’t change…

[–]ExpensiveAmbition814 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They wanted to cancel stuff we normal people do... now we cancel the money to pay for their BS. This is of course a joke, I never paid for that stuff.

[–]dagon85 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This was the greatest opening to an award show ever.

[–]jmon8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Every famous bit I see from this guy hits so good.

[–]Initial_Ad_2834 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This worlds not deserving of Ricky Gervais

[–]clermouth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

too bad he’s all about punching down now.

must be far more lucrative.

[–]communityoflove 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Well written, and delivered speech, would have liked to see some more facial reactions.

[–]EffingBarbas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Access to the production monitors would've been grand!

[–]MadeOutWithEveryGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then watch the whole thing

[–]dvdbtr 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Fucking Tom Hanks piece of shit lol

[–]14412442 9 points10 points  (2 children)

What did he do?

[–]Loose_Gripper69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He tries to present himself as Mr Rodgers but he's very well linked up with the dirt in Hollywood.

[–]Batfinklestein 13 points14 points  (8 children)

I really can't get my head around how he got away with this. Surely it wasn't off the cuff, don't they have monologues written for them?

[–]PTBTIKO -4 points-3 points  (7 children)

No one watches award shows anymore, so each one has manufactured scandals. That will smith slap nonsense, Taylor swift's nonsense at this recent waste of time award show, Ricky Gervais not playing by the rules and sticking it to the man. It's all choreographed to get our attention.

[–]VividEdge 14 points15 points  (3 children)

If that will Smith slap was planned that's the best executed coverup in history.

[–]The_Thunder_Child 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Yeah. He lost millions over it. Multiple projects cancelled.

[–]VividEdge 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I've seen enough interviews of celebs reactions to believe it was real. David Chappelle for instance gives detail in his latest Netflix special. You can tell he's not lying.

[–]slidingjimmy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

d a v i d

[–]ExtraEye4568 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing ever happens. Everything is made up. Everything is a plot. Everyone is an actor. *adjusts tinfoil*

[–]der_cypher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you saying? That the slap was planned? Not everything has to be explained or that deep. You are a pseudo intellectual

[–]Batfinklestein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argh yes, acting, I should have known

[–]Cerberusx32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's especially great when you see close up of the celebrities who are offended by what he said and the ones that get it.

[–]SmilinBuddha969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Truth hurts.

[–]UKnowDaxoAndDancer 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I miss him hosting the golden globes. Brilliant roasts of celebrity and celebrities. His last standup on the other hand, I couldn’t sit through 2 minutes of because it was just a bunch of self aggrandizing bullshit.

[–]Dankie_Spankie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get that impression from it. Meybe it’s just the beginning?

[–]FlamingTrollz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, Tom…

D&D is just a game. ;)

[–]AssSpelunker69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And then literally right after this Joaquin Pheonix gets up on stage and does that exact same thing, lol

[–]C20H25N3O-C21H30O2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No lies detected.

[–]ClonedLiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct.

[–]BrokenArmO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Such a hero...

[–]Purple_Geologist9966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ricky is the best 👍

[–]Available_Piece4778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest, I don't understand the Golden Globes. If you're not an insider, this monologue came off unhinged. But the audience was laughing, so what do I know?

It's like the Golden Globes is a huge insider joke that I'm not in on.

[–]H-E-PennyPacker71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That whole monologue was superb

[–]thetruthisoutthere35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love him, he's great

[–]IntroductionRare9619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Ricky Gervais.

[–]ExportTHCs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love seeing their stupid faces

[–]jagrbomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing will ever top this

[–]FlyInternational648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not really being insulted if it’s done with a cool British accent.

[–]fernv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking gangster, I love it

[–]ChronicMedic67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend

[–]Triple7Mafia-14 4 points5 points  (2 children)

And they allowed him to keep coming back exposing there BS?! I dont get it?!

[–]The_Thunder_Child 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That was his last time. He said that multiple times during it that he doesn't give a fuck because it's his last time.

[–]Triple7Mafia-14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

😅😅ik..😅😅so funny.

[–]Hound6869 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Some things are worth committing career suicide over, and this was one of them. Speak the truth my friend. Tom knows what's going to happen to him. The "blacklists" are no longer easily found, but they are there. Speak your mind against the establishment, and you will pay...

[–]gnrslash1987 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ricky can't commit career suicide. He's the absolute king of comedy.. and all the statistics worth caring about prove this. Ricky doesn't give the first fuck! 😂

[–]FatHaleyJoelOsment 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Did this ruin Tom Hanks career?

[–]dibd2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What part is about Hanks?

[–]ferpecto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand his point but they can still take the money from these companies and still use it and their enhanced platform for 'good'. Theyll just need to cop a bit of hypocrite/criticism. That's still slightly better than doing nothing for society at all, or even worse revelling in it all. The companies will literally still be there making billions of others.

But whatever, who really cares eh.

[–]Nhexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"one of the greatest moments in television history"

...you've not watched much tv huh?

[–]jakelaw08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more from him like this.

Truth.

[–]calling_it_out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOLY

[–]corneliusunderfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was the last time he was funny

[–]DangerousArea1427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"if an isis would start a streaming service, you would call your agent" always makes me laugh :)

[–]Overly_Facetious 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Name someone with bigger balls, go ahead I'll wait.

[–]markyjones82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meghan Markle

[–]Ingefaerkillingen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You are in no position to lecture the public" should be engraved on every award.

[–]Barbarian_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely in the top 5 but Gary Plauche 180° underarm no scope live on TV will probably never be replaced as the best moment in TV history

[–]Dr_Mantis_Aslume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is comedy that punches up

[–]TrentUlyssesCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth always hurts the egotistical.

[–]thewackytechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would’ve loved to see the expression on Timmy’s face after he said that.

[–]smilesatflowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oof!

[–]Bubsy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time the Golden Globe awards got the highest ratings in TV history

[–]UncleWillie77 0 points1 point  (0 children)
