Professional vs amateur photography comparison

In a recent post about professional vs amateur photography, someone commented it would be good to see a side-by-side comparison. We had a friend who volunteered to take pictures alongside our professional photographer, so I stitched together some comparisons. The top pictures are the professional's and the bottom are the friend's. Friend used a DSLR, though I am unsure about the specs of their camera vs the professional's. Friend has been doing photography as a hobby for at least 10 years. Friend stood next to or nearby the professional in most of these pictures. However, the professional naturally has an advantage in angles as they picked them out. These pictures were taken around 8.30-10am.

IMO while I think our friend did a good job and we're thankful that they volunteered to take pictures, we prefer the professional's pictures. The professional's pictures have better lighting, and the colors are clearer and less "muddy"/washed-out looking. The professional was also able to capture the background details better.

If people prefer amateur pictures, that's perfectly fine. I wanted to post this for those who are unsure if professional photography is worth it/what difference it makes, to show what kind of differences you can expect.

Looking to buy my girlfriend a camera for amateur photography

I don’t want to spend an absurd amount of money. Maybe 600-800 dollars for something used. I am split between the EOS 90D and the R6 mk i. Which is better? I like some of the features of the 90D but it seems like the R6 is cheaper despite being mirrorless and full frame. Why is this? Any help would be appreciated!

Anybody doing amateur photography at WEC/IMSA events? What lens do you recommend?

I’m going to the WEC race in Austin and plan on going to either Sebring and/or Long Beach for IMSA next year and I’d love to take some good photos while I’m there. I have a Panasonic Lumix GH5S and plenty of decent lenses for up close when I’m in the paddock but I’d love to take some action shots on track and wondering what a good 150-300mm lens is for fast moving subjects. I’m not a pro photographer so not really looking for anything super overkill but was wondering if anyone has a similar camera setup and could recommend a lens?

How important is editing to (amateur) photography?

I'm a relatively new amateur photographer (got my first DSLR in March), and since I've started it I've obviously been learning more and more about how to compose a photograph, how to get the correct exposure, and so on. However the thing that I really don't know how to do it edit a photo. I'm mainly interested in nature photography, and my early nature photos haven't really required too much editing. Basically I use the program that came with my Nikon to crop, slightly correct the exposure if I have to, and boost the colour a little bit. For the most part that has served me well.

However I've been wanted to do other parts of photography (in particular there's a scenic shot I want to take after discovering it while trying to shoot animals) and it seems to properly do justice to this it requires quite a bit of editing. So do I need to learn how to edit properly, and get a proper editing tool rather than Nikon NX or whatever it's called? Or for amateur photography is it not that important yet?

Amateur Photography group

Hi all, I’ve always wanted to get into photography but I haven’t had a chance to put any effort into it until now. Does anyone know about an amateur photography group I could join? Maybe a class at a local CC? I am starting from zero, I don’t even know what equipment to buy so I’d like to join a beginners friendly group if possible. TIA

Amateur Photography in DFW area

I moved here a few years ago from overseas, (Asia, Alaska, Hawaii and Africa for the most part), and sold all of my Photo gear to help pay for the move.

I've recently reinvested, In Fuji, and have spent most of my days off roaming around the DFW area taking pics.

I really love Street Photography, but I honestly think that its a genre Im not really good at. I was much better when I had more Landscaped and Wildlife to take pics of.

I've sold photos, and Ive done weddings and engagement pics for friends, but I am not a professional. I have a full-time job.

Im hoping to bump into some people who do/like/enjoy street photography and maybe get some tips/input from them.

I have Sundays and Tuesdays off and thats when I go out.

Anyone else do this?

Here is a link to some of my stuff:
