I’m CNN’s Chief International Correspondent and host of CNN International’s flagship global affairs program, “Amanpour.”

I started at CNN in 1983 (on the international desk) and have covered almost every major international story since then: The first gulf war, the Bosnian war, the Rwandan genocide, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and more recently the wars in Syria and Ukraine.

I’ve interviewed the past four Iranian presidents, three Israeli Prime Ministers, Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, Muammar Gaddafi, Hosni Mubarak, Bashar al-Assad, Robert Mugabe, and the leaders of Brazil, the UK, Nigeria, France, Italy, Qatar, Ukraine, to name just a few.

From ISIS to the Iranian nuclear talks, journalism to equal rights for women, AMA!

UPDATE: Thanks so much for all the questions! I've got to dash and interview Greece's top negotiator on how to resolve the crisis and keep the country in Europe. Hope to do it again soon.

Rory’s Fascination with Christiane Amanpour

Did anyone else just not think that Rory wanting to be like Christiane Amanpour fit her at all? Her personality and the level of comfort she was used to just didn’t seem at all suited to being a war correspondent! I think the first time she would’ve gone into a war-zone would’ve been her last, it probably would’ve given her a panic attack. If she really just wanted to combine her interest in travel with her interest in journalism, she could’ve styled her dreams more after Anthony Bourdain, focusing on cultural experiences. If she can make a piece about paving a parking lot interesting, I’m sure she could make reporting on regular travel super deep and thoughtful and hard-hitting. Does the show ever explain the fascination with Amanpour? Is it just because she’s a strong female role model? Or does Rory just think that reporting as a war correspondent is more important than regular travel?
