Loveless by Alice Oseman was not good

I didnt like this book. Istg cant be the only one bro.

(This is just my opinion btw so pls dont get offended)

The writing style was ass and it was so hard to follow. The plot was boring.

For a book about being aroace it is surprisingly very centered around romance. I understand its supposed to describe Georgias aroace experience and its good to show her overthinking everything because its a real experience. But at the same time, the author somehow manages to include the topic of romance or sexuality in literally every single scenario and paragraph and its so annoying imo. Im pretty sure aroaces have other things to do rather than question our sanity.

Basically georgia is not well developed or well written AT ALL outside of being aroace imo. Its her only trait and i would wish for a more independent unique character with an actual personality.

And the only ounce of plot outside of being aroace felt so forced and boring.

I also wouldve liked to see more aroace characters. Not my biggest concern but still. I also wish the side characters and georgias friends were better developed because they too, had barely any personality.

Also, back to talking about Georgia, even her aroace experience isnt very unique. She explained everything about her experience down to the very last detail, yet her aroace experience still seems so generalized rather than a personal expeirence. It almost feels like the author is trying to represent all aroace experiences through georgia. If that makes sense.

In general, the book just wasnt very engaging and was poorly written imo and i just cant help but dislike it. I would like to see aroace rep about people with actually personalities.

And again, this is purely my opinion and the things that i personally thought while reading. If u disagree thats totally fine. I just wanna share my opinion and see if anyone else agrees with me.

Does Alice Oseman intend for Nick and Charlie to be together forever?

I could’ve sworn I heard somewhere that she had outright said in an interview her plan was to have Nick and Charlie live the rest of their lives together; finally having sex, getting married, getting a house together, having kids, etc. Honestly I hope this does happen, they’re literal soulmates and the sheer love they have for each other (which is only bound to further as we go forward) already feels lifelong. Their final major scene together in the Season 2 finale (Nick crying for Charlie during the ED/cutting confession then caressing Charlie’s face telling him basically how much he loves him) proves that I think.

I’m a young bi dude in college but know for a fact already that I ultimately want to spend the rest of my life with a guy like Charlie so getting to see that represented here (instead of the common stereotype of bi dudes ultimately deciding to settle down with a woman so they can have a heteronormative life) would be amazing for me since I already identify so much with Nick

Picked it as an independent reading book for my English class and was just wondering what other people thought of it. Ps I'm only halfway through so no spoilers of the ending!

reading loveless by alice oseman

I just started reading loveless and holy shit. I feel so connected to this book to an inexplicable level. Idk if it's the best book about aroace, but I've never related to the aro part this much. I'm only at the start of the book but there are so many phrases or situations that i can say "wow that's just me". I don't know any "aroace icons" that i can relate to, so seeing myself represented in such an raw and realistic way is making me feel so emotional. Can't wait to finish the book

Alice Oseman Book Tour

Hello everyone!

As you might have heard via Alice's Instagram, they are doing a book tour in the UK in February to celebrate the release of Volume 5.

I was able to get a ticket for the London signing, but I've never been to this kind of event before and am very nervous about it. Has anyone ever been to a book signing, particularly an Alice Oseman book signing, and if so could you tell me a little bit about your experience? (Was it rushed, did you get to talk to the author, were you allowed to bring another book to get signed, were you allowed to give the author gifts, etc)?

Thank you all! I hope many of you are able to attend one of the book signings as well!

I loved hearing this today. It’s a short interview, but it was a joy to hear her on National Public Radio.

This group is for discussion and support for those who fall in between, for the "shades of gay" in what is often assumed to be one or the other: * bisexuals * pansexuals * omnisexuals * queers * non-straight individuals ... or anyone who doesn't quite fit the otherwise binary "straight" and "gay" pattern. If you can't work out if you're straight, gay, or anywhere in between... you should probably visit us.
