Husband and I have been going over and over this, trying to understand what's going on beyond the edit.
She keeps saying "I just don't have the big-city experience y'all have, I know" and other queens keep throwing "drag is drag" at her; there's obviously a disconnect here I want to explore. Something Jackie Cox said really rings here 'this isn't Best Friends Race but it has to be Colleagues and Co-Workers Race'.
What if that's exactly Aiden's issue, and we just aren't seeing all of it? She doesn't do regular gigs in big cities, it's my understanding she's mostly at home in her room painting and playing, right? So it would track that she doesn't understand the social expectation to talk and gossip and kiki at a shared makeup station; she's never shared that space. Especially when it comes to all of the off-camera stuff. When meals come around, she may be feeling like she's not just one of the girls so she eats alone quietly. She took the chance for her spare time to take a nap; rather than run around and help someone tape a shoe or tease a wig or glue a seam; because she's never used that time for anyone else before. The girls often are so used to talking that they will pass secret notes in the hotel hallways, prison-style; two girls even came up with a wall-knocking type of code to talk to each other. Aiden doesn't feel disconnected, because maybe she just never got the time
to try or just simply doesn't know how to feel connected?
I know socially awkward folks are often played up as 'quirky' and 'lovable' characters for shows/cameras; but when you legitimately don't know the unspoken rules and how to interact with others in a way that feels open and caring, it's actually crippling. And it may be this, and be so crippling to her; that's making this such a rough road for her.
Just my two cents. Thoughts?
