Apple A13 benchmarked in Geekbench 5: +18% single-core, +19% multi-core and +41% Metal (vs A12)

A new result of the Apple iPhone12,3 (aka 11 Pro Max) just popped up in Geekbench 5.

iPhone XS Max iPhone12,3
Single-Core 1119 1324 +18,3%
Multi-Core 2855 3394 +18,9%
Metal 4666 6557 +40,5%

Of course these are individual runs so there is some statistical noise in the data. Looking at the sub-scores, on the CPU the Image Inpainting and Ray Tracing scores stand out with +30% performance, and on the Metal test, which runs on the GPU, the Stereo Matching result stands out at double the performance.

Looking at the Metal benchmark chart, this places the A13 GPU on par with the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650/655 in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and just above the A10X from the 2017 iPad Pros.

Just a single benchmark though, different applications may vary. Can't wait for AnandTech's review!

Not going to lie, even though i only use android phones the a12 bionic whooped the floor with anything Qualcomm is currently producing, now with the new a13 it got worst for Qualcomm; [heck] i could even bet that the next snapdragon 865 will still be behind the a13 bionic.

an iphone having higher more powerful cpu than an android; Qualcomm i feel is dropping the ball.

the only thing i see holding the iphone back when it comes to real world speed tests is it's lower amount of RAM, but little by little apple are pushing the other "TOP" chip makers players aside.

Will Qualcomm one day catch up?

A13 in Apple Studio Display. Will it ever be used for more than IO?

I own the 5K display Apple made with LG, so I was a bit disappointed in Apple’s offering with the Studio Display. It seems to be almost identical with a prettier casing when I was really looking forward to a future looking prosumer monitor from Apple. It’s especially frustrating that Apple didn’t choose to put a second Thunderbolt port in these displays so they could be daisy chained when the new Thunderbolt spec allows that.

However, the inclusion of the A13 has me really intrigued. They keynote showed it being using to control audio and the camera. Do you think this might get significant firmware updates in the future. Just being able to AirPlay to it without a computer attached would be a game changer for my room set up (I don’t want a 27” monitor and a Tv). If it could be updated to run TV OS it would be a compelling new product category for Apple and I’d rush to the web store to get it.

Heck, the A13 could run iPad OS reasonably well and could use your keyboard and mouse relayed through wireless your mac/iPad/iPhone (I assume the display doesn’t have wifi and Bluetooth).

Would love to see any of this at WWDC this year.
