Seeing what Waititi's tone/style has done for Chris Hemsworth's Thor makes me even more hyped to see Natalie Portman return as Jane

[–]Punky921 2646 points2647 points  (282 children)

Portman also rarely gets to do weird crazy funny roles. She was an ingenue type for years and now she's kind of a hot mom? Given the stuff we've seen from her SNL Natalie raps, she really wants to do weird off color funny shit.

[–]TheyCallMeStone 1601 points1602 points  (196 children)

She's kind of a hot mom?

[–]Punky921 1042 points1043 points  (185 children)

She's TOTALLY a hot mom, but I said "kind of" because I haven't actually seen her play a mom lately. The most recent film I remember her in was Annihilation and while she was definitely portrayed as in her 30s/40s, she wasn't anyone's actual mom. I don't know what her acting type is now. Haha

[–]pneuma8828Kevin Feige 848 points849 points  (147 children)

She's in what actresses call the "donut hole"...there are roles for 20 year olds, and roles for 60 year olds, but very few roles for 40 year olds.

Hollywood has gotten a lot better about it in the last 20 years, but still.

[–]lickedTators 587 points588 points  (106 children)

Unless you're Michelle Yeoh and you can be in roles where you continuously kick ass from your 20s into almost your 60s.

[–]Punky921 411 points412 points  (68 children)

Michelle Yeoh is finally getting the fame and status she was due after Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

[–][deleted] 153 points154 points  (54 children)

I saw that in the theater and it was unlike anything i had ever seen.

[–]Punky921 190 points191 points  (49 children)

If you want your mind blown again (but in a COMPLETELY different way) check out Everything Everywhere All At Once.

[–]jag149 30 points31 points  (11 children)

Bro… I’d never heard of it, but what even the fuck was that trailer I just watched. It looks spectacular and completely fucking insane. Obviously I should shroom while I watch it, right?

[–][deleted] 54 points55 points  (9 children)

I want to see it pretty badly.

[–]pvhs2008 45 points46 points  (15 children)

Can confirm this movie blew my mind. Everyone was so good and they managed to make it emotional, relatable, and yet keep up nonstop action. For such a fast paced movie, it was easy to follow, too (super helpful if you’ve got older relatives who have trouble following plots).

I’ve never wanted to rewatch a movie so quickly after seeing it lol.

[–]Rimbosity 64 points65 points  (4 children)

Michelle Yeoh is finally getting the fame and status she was due after Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Huh? She was already a legend long before that movie.

She's the person that made Jackie Chan stop saying that women shouldn't be in fighting movies. (Because she'll kick his ass again if he tries.)

[–]progdrummerCaptain America (Cap 2) 122 points123 points  (14 children)

Same for Ming-Na Wen.

[–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (9 children)

Same for Zhang Ziyi...I think she needs to be in bigger roles...in Crouching Tiger, Rush Hour 2, Godzilla King of the Monsters, Memoirs of a Geisha, which Michelle Yeoh was also part of.

[–]Feezec 51 points52 points  (8 children)

Michelle Yeoh, Ming-na Wen, Zhang Ziyi...maybe the donut is still in effect, but Hollywood just doesn't know how to accurately gauge Asian womens' ages

[–]Punky921 33 points34 points  (6 children)

Asian don't raisin. Source: am Asian.

[–]Commiesstoner 39 points40 points  (4 children)

Well duh, if you're Asian you don't get donut hole'd cos you practically don't have a middle age. You just one day become a 60 year old and look like Ming-Na Wen.

[–]MandolinMagi 31 points32 points  (4 children)

That's because Asian women look 20-something into their 60s

[–]ezone2kil 39 points40 points  (1 child)

Until they hit that hidden trigger and turn into an ancient grandma overnight.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (5 children)

She was my favorite part of Star Trek Discovery. Just hamming it up as the Emperor and being fantastic at it.

[–]ethnicallyambiguous 61 points62 points  (13 children)

She’s also done interviews (I think when Annihilation came out) saying she won’t take any roles that involve travel because she doesn’t want to leave her family behind. Annihilation I think was filmed entirely in California which is why she took the role.

Now that was years ago so maybe she’s more open to travel now, or maybe they just threw piles of money at her, but that’s her explanation as to why she wasn’t working for awhile.

[–]Gr8NonSequitur 55 points56 points  (2 children)

She’s also done interviews (I think when Annihilation came out) saying she won’t take any roles that involve travel because she doesn’t want to leave her family behind. Annihilation I think was filmed entirely in California which is why she took the role.

Which is fair. Bill Murray was approached about a movie and said he wanted to do it, but was tired of the travel, so if it could be done within an hour of his house (so he'd be home every night) he'd do it. The director scouted locations close to him and now we have "Broken Flowers".

[–]bukakkebiceps 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i remember reading about a contract stipulation Hugh Jackman has that says he can’t be away from his family for more than 2 weeks and if that can’t be met, then they must budget for his family to come with

[–]txijake 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Maybe she's fine just flying out to Georgia where Marvel films almost everything.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Wasn’t this one made in Australia?

[–]navenager 38 points39 points  (2 children)

It was. It's crazy to me that Taika Waititi has ascended to the "No you come to me" level or director in like 5 years. There are very few non-Americans in that category let alone non-White people and he got fast-tracked there purely on the merit of his talent. You gotta tip your hat

[–]WorkAccount42318 22 points23 points  (0 children)

She plays a world renown, Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist so 40 year old sounds reasonable for the role.

[–]AkioDAccolade 17 points18 points  (0 children)

yeah because when they want an actual 40 year old they pick a 60 year old that looks 40

[–]Punky921 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's an issue for sure.

[–]Lopsided_Panic_1148 20 points21 points  (3 children)

Holy shit, Natalie Portman is 40? I still remember her as the young girl from Léon: The Professional. I keep thinking she's still in her 20s.

[–]Daddysu 23 points24 points  (12 children)

Damn...if subreddits and porn sires are any indication, there are plenty of people into women that age. MILF or not. Do those people not buy movie tickets? I feel like that has got to be an industry hang up more so than consumers dictating it. I could be wrong though.

[–]jigsaw1024 32 points33 points  (7 children)

It's the industry power broker assholes.

They know there is a constant flow of new, young talent moving in that they can take advantage of more than established actresses.

See Harvey Weinstein as an example.

[–]Gengar0 49 points50 points  (26 children)

Fuuuuuck Annihilation was good.

[–]Punky921 11 points12 points  (18 children)

Yeah, Garland can basically do no wrong imho. Loved that film. Didn't stand up well to a second watch (too slow once you already know the mystery) but that first watch was a hell of a ride.

[–]jaybro861 14 points15 points  (4 children)

She got hella fit for this role too. Looking so forward to this movie. Really hope there is a part where she beats up hemsworth. Would be funny to watch lol.

[–]stoneape314 21 points22 points  (9 children)

Have you seen Portman in the video for Devendra Banhart's "Carmensita"?

They were dating at the time and it totally feeds into the likelihood that she's got an appetite for doing off-the-wall stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-ezaxiKe-Y

[–]mnshyn 46 points47 points  (13 children)

She was good in Your Highness

[–]Rodin-V 23 points24 points  (9 children)

Love that film. I know it's dumb as shit, but it's one of my favourite films to watch when I just really need a good laugh

[–]mnshyn 15 points16 points  (4 children)

Absolutely. Those types of movies are needed every now and then just to unwind and let go.

Bella: "how do you even know if it works?" Leezar: "because I've tested it, and if your vagina, is anything like my hand, there will be no problem."

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (10 children)

weird off color funny shit

[–]TooMuchPowerfulPhil Coulson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Only if the funny shit masks seriously dark topics, like the actual Holocaust or mass murder and destruction of planets.

[–]FrostyD7 157 points158 points  (7 children)

Her character is effectively a blank slate as far as I'm concerned, especially considering the undeniably successful changes in tone you mentioned.

[–]Dewut 76 points77 points  (3 children)

All we know is that she’s smart, and likes space.

The one thing I can think of that would be cool to incorporate in to her character is how she spent most of her life studying space magic as science, so the way she thinks about having Thor powers and how to use them could be really unique

[–]CrossP 22 points23 points  (2 children)

The idea that she is leagues ahead of Thor in terms of technical ability with Mjolnir is kind of a fun thought.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So was Thor lol

[–]mothershipqThor 103 points104 points  (0 children)

This movie is going to be so fucking fun I cannot wait.

Time to re-watch the teaser!!

[–]Rupertstein 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s a lonely island when you’re this awesome.

[–]beefwindowtreatment 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Thank you for this! I've been seeing KRAGLE everywhere this post and couldn't place it. It was driving me crazy! All it took were those first three words to make it click.

[–]i_tyrant 129 points130 points  (32 children)

Also, hilariously on brand for Thor to not even think of picking up the pieces of his shattered, highly magical hammer from a hill in Norway for years and years.

[–]AgentP20 79 points80 points  (18 children)

I mean Thor didn't have the time to pick up Mjolnir considering hela was right there and loki summoned the bifrost too

[–]i_tyrant 37 points38 points  (17 children)

Right, which is why I said "years and years". Ragnarok happens before Infinity War, so there's at least a 5 year skip (where granted Thor was depressed af, but he WAS on Earth and even in the same general region), but also I highly doubt Love & Thunder takes place immediately after Endgame.

[–]AgentP20 17 points18 points  (8 children)

Prolly because he got an upgrade.

[–]i_tyrant 11 points12 points  (5 children)

Sure, that could def contribute to why he left fragments of an Asgardian artifact weapon all over a hillside in Norway.

Still very much in character for Thor specifically though. Plenty of other characters in the MCU would realize how potentially problematic that is.

[–]montybo2 27 points28 points  (9 children)

It does have that strange glow in the cracks now. My first instinct was to say it was grafted back together with vibranium as some sort of mortar. It is the most versatile metal on the planet afterall... Still working out how they would make that happen without going to wakanda.

[–]bb22k 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Great opportunity to bring back Eitri and the dwarfs.

[–]Reylend 430 points431 points  (30 children)

I need them to bring in Beta Ray Bill

[–]mattbettinger 134 points135 points  (11 children)

My guess is, this wording is hinting at him.

[–]DeezRodenutz 78 points79 points  (4 children)

Perhaps Jane didn't quite find ALL the pieces, but a small shard was eventually found by a frog...

[–]Hippobu2 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Well, he had to find a way to get out of that jar in Loki first.

[–]PKMNTrainerMark 15 points16 points  (1 child)

His Nexus Event was not escaping the jar.

[–]Hippobu2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Woah, I just realised sth, time before going to the Void can be anytime, it could be that Throg was put in the jar in Love and Thunder. We could see it happen.

[–]Draconuuse1Matt Murdock 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Throgggggggg

[–]CeruleanRuin 42 points43 points  (1 child)

I'm thinking maybe Thor's decision to "retire" causes some force to be unleashed that creates a bunch of new Thors to be announced.

Or maybe he's rummaging through Odin's things and switches on some old Asgardian tech to protect the realms for him while he's away on his rumshpringa, accidentally stumbling on the very thing that made him Thor in the first place. But without Odin to control it it goes a bit haywire.

And thus there are multiple beings given the hammer.

[–]Prycelessd 75 points76 points  (8 children)

Scrolled way too long to see this comment.

I don't want him to take away from Jane, but if he comes in late or as an end credit scene....the hype is going to last until 2025.

[–]Reylend 61 points62 points  (7 children)

I hope its in an after credits where thor ends up giving Bill Stormbreaker. After all, Bill's hammer IS Stormbreaker. I hope they give him a rock theme like how they gave Thor The Immigrant Song, it NEEDS to be Thunderstruck

[–]Prycelessd 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I don't want to see Thor give up Stormbreaker but I feel like he may get Mjolnir back in the end anyway.

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (2 children)

I would really hate that if it becomes his main weapon again. Stormbreaker is way cooler.

[–]Prycelessd 15 points16 points  (1 child)

It is, and I'm sorry, but it truly belongs to Beta Ray Bill and the story will evolve without Chris.

Let's hope for a real rune king and that he starts to weird Odins Gungnir Spear. THAT WOULD BE EPIC!

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, if we want to talk about what belongs to who, the current appearance of Stormbreaker is actually one of the appearances of Mjolnir from the comics. Stormbreaker looks much different in the comics.

I could see Mjolnir maybe breaking apart again and forming over "Stormbreaker" and Thor calling it Mjolnir because it's inherited it's spirit or whatever. Then Beta Ray Bill uses a more comic accurate appearance for Stormbreaker.

Or whatever, but I just don't want Thor to lose his current weapon. It's my favorite looking one of all of them. You are tempting me with Gungnir though.

[–]RespectThyHypnotoad 1555 points1556 points  (109 children)

I can't wait for Natalie Portman in this film. She's a phenomenal actor who wasn't given her time to shine. I'm hoping Waititi can bring out her and Hemsworth's chemistry.

Edit: Since I had a small number of people reply, I meant her time to shine in the MCU if that wasn't clear.

[–]dontshowmygf 472 points473 points  (0 children)

Yeah, her character has always been one of the biggest missed opportunities in the MCU. If anyone can turn that around, I'm pretty hopeful it'll be Taika.

[–]barbaq24 190 points191 points  (52 children)

I think Natalie Portman is generally well liked and accepted. She was in Your Highness, but also won an Academy award for Black Swan. She has walked the tight rope of fame better than most. I think we all agree that we love Natalie Portman, and she wants to f*ck us too. She has Star Wars, Darren Aronofsky, V for Vendetta, Annihilation and Leon: The Professional. Her career is stacked with fan favorites. If she wanted to she could probably lean harder into messing with these IPs but she seems to just do her professional part, let the movie speak for itself, get paid, and get out of the way. Which is rare and seems to work. If this is the moment, at age 40, after 2 kids that she finally decides to do it again and take on a huge campy role, I think she’s got plenty of goodwill to get her through this and elevate the movie for the better.

[–]Sun-Forged 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I think the sentiment was that she was given her time to shine in the MCU.

[–]GTSBurner 93 points94 points  (34 children)

The damn shame of it is that the prequels could have been SO MUCH BETTER with competent writing behind it. Instead, Padme and Anakin's romance is just creepy.

[–]i_tyrant 84 points85 points  (22 children)

Yeah, Hayden Christensen isn't a bad actor either.

Star Wars just...uh, what's the opposite of "brings it out of people"? Stuffs it back in and replaces it with sand, I guess.

[–]theinspectorst 9 points10 points  (3 children)

I don't think that's a comment on Star Wars generally. Ewan came out of the Prequels with his reputation intact and his depiction of Obi Wan is well loved by fans. In recent years, Rogue One on film and the Mandalorian on TV were both really strong and well-received.

The problem for Natalie and Hayden is that George Lucas had zero ability when it came to writing and directing romance. The dialogue and direction he gave them, especially in Attack of the Clones, just never gave them any chance to show what they could do.

I really do think that if you could fix the scenes involving the Anakin-Padme romance, whilst there would still be some other things that needed addressing, it would dramatically improve the general opinion people had of the Prequels.

[–]orbit222 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Anakin's side was definitely supposed to be creepy, he was a kid who grew up being told to suppress his feelings and didn't know how to act around her and didn't know how to understand what he was experiencing. But Padme's turn-around was too quick.

[–]lyvanna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Anakin was low key terrifying tbh. His character in the clone wars is soooo much better.

[–]Fugacity- 23 points24 points  (8 children)

Garden State also get's her a whole lot of love

[–]great_red_dragon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why’s everyone forget Closer

[–][deleted] 460 points461 points  (78 children)

Perhaps this has been asked before. But what made her come back? I thought she didn't like superhero movies or something along those lines.

[–]CX316 1088 points1089 points  (45 children)

She was on bad terms with Disney after they wouldn't let her out of her contract when Patty Jenkins left Thor 2, and didn't like the damsel in distress role she got crammed into for most of the movie, so she elected not to interrupt her schedule to come back for tiny bit parts like Paltrow did, so they wrote her out as part of the long chain of events that broke Thor.

From the sound of it what got her back was getting to work with Taika Waititi, getting a far more interesting role in the story than the sexy lamp role she had in Thor 2, and money. Plenty of money.

[–]Ambaryerno 139 points140 points  (4 children)

That's the biggest problem with Jane. I see so many people criticize Portman's performance as if she was just phoning it, but she wasn't given anything to work with in the first place.

I would say even Kat Dennings was given more interesting stuff to do as "Goofy Friend/Associate" Darcy than Portman had as Jane in the first two movies, where she pretty much just existed to be Thor's love interest.

[–]brucejoel99Stan Lee 347 points348 points  (16 children)

I imagine hearing that the Creative Committee &/or certain individuals on it are no longer there to mess with stuff that her & Feige might wanna do probably played a role as well.

[–]AwakenMirror 385 points386 points  (15 children)

Absolutely. Ike "no one wants to see female superheroes" Perlmutter lost his position as the middle man between Feige and Disney back in 2015.

Getting rid of the misogynist guy who could veto any "risky" decision certainly played a part in Portman coming back.

[–]scamper_pants 98 points99 points  (11 children)

I didn't know he was termed in 2015. Makes sense as other than The Winter Soldier and Guardians 1 I pretty much prefer all the movies post 2015 to those 2015 and earlier.

[–]falsehood 103 points104 points  (10 children)

Yep Feige was in a box before then. Hence the OG Avengers being 5 white dudes and one white chick.

[–]PointOfFingers 62 points63 points  (2 children)

[–]Marsdreamer 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Considering the wild success of Black Panther, I imagine he's got a bit of egg on his face these days.

[–]MrConor212Daisy Johnson 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Wasn’t there a story that Feige literally walked into Igers office and gave him an ultimatum? Either he gets full control or he walks. Might be making it up lol

[–]geek_of_nature 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the story I've always heard. He wanted Downey for Civil War, Perlmutter was completely against that because of the cost, so Feige went to Iger and basically said me or him. Iger made the right choice.

[–]topdangle 158 points159 points  (0 children)

shes back because perlmutter got his creative control taken away by disney so now they can have more female heroes and villains instead of just damsel girlfriends.

[–]Pabus_Alt 84 points85 points  (3 children)

[–]jpterodactylDaredevil 31 points32 points  (6 children)

All of that makes sense, but I Think it would be super funny if she did this because she wanted to see what it would be like to get the marvel personal trainer treatment.

[–]steve32767Daredevil 43 points44 points  (5 children)

This the real story. She just wanted to get ripped and beat up people talking shit about the prequels

[–]JRHThreeFourSpider-Man 34 points35 points  (1 child)

I don’t blame Natalie for being dissatisfied. Jane Foster was alright in Thor 1 but she didn’t get much to do in The Dark World. The production behind The Dark World suffered from a lot of problems including changing directors, cutting a lot of Malekith’s screen time and character development in favor of Loki and just being one of the weakest and most forgettable MCU movies. Loki is great of course but Malekith is a pretty classic Thor comic villain and it’s unfortunate that Malekith was easily one of the worst MCU villains.

I’ve always liked Natalie Portman as an actress and I’m happy that she’s getting a chance to shine in Love and Thunder. I’ll have to read up a bit on Thor comics, I’m especially interested in Gorr from what I know about him. I’ve been on a Spider-Man and X-Men reading binge lately.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

wow thank you. That makes a lot of sense. if you've got a big star like natalie portman. you can't just put her in a generic role like you mentioned. total waste.

[–]klartraume 198 points199 points  (6 children)

I thought she didn't like superhero movies or something along those lines.

Portman was frustrated. During contract negotiations for Thor 2, she was promised that she'd be working with Patricia Lea Jenkins (who went on to direct WW). That would have meant she'd be in the first MCU movie directed by a woman. Furthermore, allegedly, Natalie Portman/Jane Foster was supposed to end up being the big-bad after being corrupted by the Aether. Not only was the new director less of a professional dream for her, her character was side-lined in the narrative into a plot device.

Now Portman has an opportunity to work with Taika Waititi and have a role in the film that actually matters. Big difference.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Furthermore, allegedly, Natalie Portman/Jane Foster was supposed to end up being the big-bad after being corrupted by the Aether.

I was going to make a joke about how this couldn't've been worse than the main villain of Thor 2 because of how forgettable he was but I can't do that because I remember his name and appearance. Malekith. Angry homicidal pale boy?

I think I still would've preferred Jane

[–]ChezMere 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is that a role like this in a Taika movie is a much better opportunity than reprising the generic love interest from the first two movies.

[–]jpiro 967 points968 points  (52 children)

Hey Jane, how did you fix and summon the hammer?

No more questions!

[–]s3rila 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I want her to go back to SNL and do her third rap

[–]Doritos-Locos-Taco 82 points83 points  (20 children)

I like part 2 better

[–]RespectThyHypnotoad 140 points141 points  (4 children)

I'm ready for part 3, maybe get her and Hemsworth on SNL to promote the film.

[–]NetwinnIron Monger 80 points81 points  (1 child)

I can already hear Samberg screaming “Natalieeeeeee”

[–]Punky921 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would watch the shit out of that.

[–]GrandSquanchRum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think part 2 kind of suffered not having all of Lonely Island working on it so I feel like part 3 would suffer just the same. I'm sure Samberg would still show up, though.

[–]Lucarrera 71 points72 points  (3 children)

Star lord: okay new lady Thor, dance off!

Jane: Foster Foster Foster Foster Foster, I'll fuck your raccoon and your whole dumbass corny roster.

[–]thegreatbrah 8 points9 points  (9 children)

Do you have a link? I had no idea there was a second.

And you thought you were the one and only... @chrishemsworth 🙃

EDIT: It's an Official Poster, Marvel just posted it

[–]advester 300 points301 points  (1 child)

I love this. She looks great and it’s funny.

[–][deleted] 164 points165 points  (5 children)

Chadme

[–]Vakarlan 63 points64 points  (0 children)

IT'S OVER THOR I HAVE THE HIGHGROUND.

[–]LittleYellowFish1Nebula 702 points703 points  (293 children)

I'd be curious to see how people react to Portman posting this compared to how they'd react to Brie Larson posting something similar.

[–]bythewayne 444 points445 points  (74 children)

I think that Brie had against she was sort of a newcomer. Natalie has not only history in the franchise, she is also Queen Padme Amidala

Just theorizing

[–]iseeu2sumhow 348 points349 points  (10 children)

We now call her chadme over on r/prequelmemes

[–]dontshowmygf 181 points182 points  (6 children)

Can't wait until we have more footage of swole Natalie to Photoshop into prequel memes.

[–]noteverrelevant 82 points83 points  (3 children)

This is where the fun begins.

[–]Nico777Phil Coulson 40 points41 points  (2 children)

I'll try bulking up, that's a good trick!

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Is it possible to learn this power?

[–]GTSBurner 17 points18 points  (0 children)

MY WILL TO LIFT

[–]BigTimeSuperhero96 24 points25 points  (1 child)

She would have bench pressed Anakin on Mustafar

[–]BoinkBoinkEtAliaeJimmy Woo 276 points277 points  (91 children)

Same vitriol but with less energy

[–]HornyBastard37484739Wong 38 points39 points  (7 children)

I’ve seen zero comments on this post actually complaining about the decision. The mods might just be working overtime, but AFAIK the response seems very positive

[–][deleted] 137 points138 points  (5 children)

Oof. As if I didn't crush on her enough already.

[–]noteverrelevant 66 points67 points  (4 children)

Now you can dream of being crushed by her, too.

[–]RnRaintnoisepolutionCaptain Marvel 19 points20 points  (1 child)

With this and she-hulk now is a good time for me to be a marvel fan.

[–]ZachRyderDaredevil 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Natalie? My goodness you've grown!

[–]loudent2 54 points55 points  (28 children)

I don't have a problem with anything going on here, I just want to understand the Mythos. Inn Ragnarok, we get Odin telling Thor he's not the god of hammers and the hammer was just there to help focus his lightning abilities.

In Endgame we see that cap was able to summon lightning without having any innate lightning abilities. So, when Natalie becomes "Thor" does he somehow transfer his innate power to Nat's Thor? Is Thor a title or his name.

so confused by the Mythology here.

[–]guyiscomming 93 points94 points  (13 children)

So Odin's spell on the hammer means the worthy weilder gets Thor's powers, which would be the lightning you see Cap using. Thor on his own has the powers, but others get to use them when they are worthy and weild the hammer. Basically, it is both true that Thor has powers without the hammer and the hammer gives powers to whoever is using it.

[–]Lobsterzilla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“The power of Thor” and “Thor’s power” are subtly different sentences.

[–]thatonefatefan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's both. In the comics at least, thor and his hammer just happen to have the exact same powerset, despite having totally different origin stories

[–]EcstaticBox 48 points49 points  (1 child)

Natalie Swolman.

Have you seen her fucking arms?

She got jacked for this part, it’s awesome.

[–]WiseauSrs 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Natalie's incredible acting talent has been criminally underused in the MCU up to this point. I look forward to seeing this next instalment and love that she's back.

[–]Chaoticauntfriend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yay, the bisexual dream: two thors

[–]Micktrex 45 points46 points  (6 children)

Please smash me, Natalie Thorman.

[–]CitizensssnipsDaredevil 293 points294 points  (46 children)

She is going to piss off all the right people

[–]Rynoxmc2 125 points126 points  (31 children)

Most of the people that I’ve seen so far are chill. I’m assuming it’s all on Twitter, and those neck beards that know nothing about comics.

[–]Multievolution 85 points86 points  (8 children)

Don’t read the comments in yesterday’s post showing her bulking up there’s loads of vile ones.

[–]Rynoxmc2 43 points44 points  (4 children)

Ofc they’re are… it’s all trolls anyway. Also downvoted for sure. So they obviously have the unpopular beliefs. I really can’t stand them, they just show up out of nowhere. Every post about Ms Marvel, the same thing. Instead they’re making fun of a child. How disgusting is that?
