Just wondering if this was an anachronism?

I realize I am late to the party, just finished the series and I have a few questions.

At the beginning of the story Naomi's sister dies while they were walking in the marshes. Was this an accident or did her sister walk into the marsh to die because of her "sins".

When Naomi is molested and the man molesting her tells her she's a whore just like her sister, who is molesting her?

Later in the story we see Naomi walk into the marsh. . . then what happens? The next time we see her she is in the old goat man's cabin. Did she kill the goat man? We he the one molesting her sister and the one who attacked her?

I enjoyed some aspects of this series but not enough to go back and scroll through to find these answers so help is appreciated.
